Larian's unfair advantage - Credistick
  • Crowdfunding played a part, but there's also the vision and the plan to attain that vision, as well as the community behind the crowdfunding and dedication to quality. My employer is employee-owned, and so it shares a lot of values with Larian and were successful without needing to be publicly traded. It really is down to core values and how well those values are upheld internally, money is just a means to an end.

  • What's happening in your Eberron campaign?
  • SWADE recently came on my radar to potentially move onto after I finish Oracle of War and escape from the disruption of Revised 5E (One D&D or however you wanna say it). Also been looking at WWN but I'm not to sure that it's mechanics aid in playing in a pulp/noir setting.

  • Eberron and the Concept of the Nation

Blog post from one of the Eberron Discord's moderators, Joseph Meehan. This one covers his thoughts on how Eberron uses national identity to define characters as well as opportunities to make Eberron your own.

Dragonmark: Denizens of the Age of Demons

New blog post by Keith Baker. Really good insight into the distant past of Eberron and Keith gives some pretty good suggestions on how to reflavor native celestials and fiends to give the a more 'Eberron' feel.

    What's your "cannon" OT run?
  • Paragade Shepard Shepard is a pretty strong playthrough. My Shepard tends to be a bit more diplomatic with TIM until the crew gets thrown into the truly shitty situation on the Collector ship and EDI says the Illusive Man set us up. Yes, we got the data but Shepard stops being nice about going along with TIM.

  • Is it just me or did anyone else became a more avid poster since joining lemmy?
  • I rarely posted on Reddit, mostly because I would try to find a conversation already in progress instead of making my own post. Also, my posts rarely caught that much traction. I commented a lot more frequently, several times a week. I'm still fairly infrequent, mostly because in my early internet years I posted A LOT of cringe on Facebook/Myspace so I tend to be a little more measured in my internet footprint now.

  • IFAQ: The Grand Duke of Atur
  • I love the IFAQs and other articles in Keith's blog! I love the books about Eberron, but Keith always gives a bit more inspiration in the blogs because he asks some very good follow-up questions that he gives examples of what he would do. His engagement with the community on how to tell the story at your table is one of many reasons why I love Eberron.

So, the question of the near future comes up every so often in the Eberron discord and it's a pretty interesting thought experiment. Keith gives some very good threads to go on here and the one I kind of like to tug on is the Lord of Blades making some moves.

So far, the Mourning hasn't shown to have much of an effect on warforged, so I like the idea that the Lord of Blades uses that to gain an edge on the Five Nations. I'm not sure that he would be working for a greater power, at least not directly. What I would say in five years time is that he's come into open conflict with one of the Five Nations and is winning, possibly because of something he found in the Mournland.

What is an unpopular game/series you enjoy anyway?
  • Dragon Age 2. Lot's of people think it's the weakest game in the Dragon Age series and there is a lot to not like: dungeons and outdoor areas are largely the same recycled maps with different layouts, story was a bit lackluster compared to the previous title, party controls were a step down from Dragon Age Origins. I still enjoy it for the party dynamics and the main character dialogue wheel had more varied option that didn't along with previous Bioware titles that had the good, neutral, and evil/jerk responses.

Pretty good look into who the current Grand Duke of Atur is and how the title is obtained. I like peeling back the bits of Karrnath that make more than just a nation of warlords and necromancers. I actually have a warforged Seeker that I play who used to be in one of the orders that was disbanded before the end of the Last War who is trying to show that not all Seekers are like the Emerald Claw.

What's happening in your Eberron campaign?
  • As a preface: I run Oracle of War on Roll20, so that is going to factor in to my answer. There's no modules to get for it on Roll20, so I have ended up setting everything up manually. It is written for adventurers league, so for the most part NPC statblocks are from the core rulebooks. Someone also released battlemaps and the earlier ones are not that easy to line up with the Roll20 grid.

As far as session prep, that's gotten easier with time as I've absorbed more Eberron lore, but when I just started out your given bare minimum information and there are somethings the authors took liberties with. I can't speak to forming into into a more continuous story, so if you wanted to "fill in the blanks" between sessions then you'll have a little more work. I am running it AL legit, so I have to worry less about that. One adventure I'm about to run does feel VERY shoehorned in, like literally bending geography to put the party where the adventure wanted it to be and that took me a while to reconcile.

Otherwise, most of my work has been in setting up the VTT.

  • keith-baker.com IFAQ: Kobold Character Hooks

As time permits, I like to answer interesting questions posed by my Patreon supporters. This month, someone asks… Could you expound on the role of kobolds in Eberron? They often seem to be lu…

Going to help drive content creation, figured I can start with last week's blog post on Keith's site. For those who are unaware, Keith Baker, one of the main creator's of Eberron and considered by many in the Eberron community to be the most authoritative voice for Eberron, posts semi-regular blog posts. Many of these are available to view freely, though some are locked behind his Patreon subscription.

Anyway, this particular article is the most recent public one that he's posted giving some hooks for kobold player characters. I've always wanted to make a kobold character but came up short trying to think of hooks for them. This article gave some pretty good one's. My personal favorite is the kobold paladin of the Fury.

Any hooks that stand out to you in this article? In fun hooks not included that you want to share?

  • Currently running Oracle of War, getting through the start of tier 3. Been going really well, players are enjoying themselves but I can't wait to finish so I can move onto running a game "in my Eberron". Not that Oracle is badly written (it's been pretty good for the most part) but the Adventurers League feel looks like a spectre that I do my best to just make exist behind the scenes.
