Threadiversal Travel - A guide for Lemmy, Kbin and general Reddit off-ramping
  • I really Lemmy and Kbin. Both provide solid desktop experiences and app development is only accelerating.

One thing in particular I am having a hard time with is discovering communities. I know there are a couple websites dedicated to this but discovery on both Lemmy and Kbin is not very easy. This becomes compounded by the fact that some communities have fractured across numerous communities or magazines. Referencing different communities/magazines is also was more annoying than doing /r/dancing or whatever.

Is there a solution to these problems?

My Federation status set to "On." What does this mean exactly? Are there Lemmy communities that I am automatically federated with when it is enabled?

    Under status, it says

    > > > Instances: > >

    What does this mean exactly?

What are the actual privacy implications of using a fitness tracker with mostly pseudonymous information?

For example, let's say I want to use a Fitbit. I download the app, enter my real height and weight, but I give a masked email, fake name, fake birthday, etc. I always use the app with a VPN.

When doing an outdoor activity, I would allow my precise location on a run.

Is there really much of a privacy risk if they don't know who I am?

Please don't just suggest Gadgetbridge or a similar alternative.
