You're just a kid, how would you know what you want for the rest of your life?
  • My parents got married when they were 19 and 21. They only knew each other for 3 months prior to getting married even. They're almost 70 now and still happily married.

My husband and I got married when we were both 21. We're almost 30 now and still happily married.

For some, it is possible to know what you want out of your life. For example, I knew since I was 16 years old that I didn't want any children. My husband was a bit younger than me since he knew. We both knew what our general goals were and how to work towards them.

We talked extensively prior to getting married about a lot of things, such as what happens if one of us becomes severely disabled and requires the other to care for us. Our answers aligned really well and on things we didn't align on we were able to come to an agreement that satisfied both of us.

I don't think my case is a common one though. My husband and I have definitely both changed, the difference is that we have changed and grown together. And sometimes it took both of us actively working together to solve any issues.

It is a lot easier to simply wait and skip this process but we were ready to commit.

  • So is the US slipping into Civil War?
  • I am thankful everyday that the governor of Kansas is a Democrat as well because it means we likely aren't participating.

Kansas historically was a free state, part of the union. People, that live here specifically, seem to forget that.

I just sent a message to the governor declaring my support in not sending any troops to Texas.

  • This tweet was from 2022. Can someone go check if the prediction came true?
  • People here who don't remember the thanks Obama meme is very sad.

Anytime anything bad happened people would say "thanks Obama" then it got turned into a meme of people saying it when it didn't even have anything to do with Obama.

It got so popular that Obama himself made a meme.

  • California becomes first state to offer health insurance to all undocumented immigrants
  • For reference, I was in a car accident that broke both of my wrists and I had to go to the ER. I was fine other than my wrists.

The ER use for about.. 3 hours? Was over $10,000. Because my health insurance refused coverage since it was in an auto accident.

Luckily my bodily injury coverage on my insurance paid.

Then I needed surgery and physical therapy. All of which were not covered by my health insurance.

The surgery was about $32,000. (Included the metal plates and screws/pins as well as the surgical room and recovery + surgeon and anesthesia).

All said and done total cost for having my wrists broken was about $70,000. None of which was covered by my health insurance and thank god my parents (I was still on their car insurance) paid for underinsured motorist coverage because the drunk that caused the accident didn't have insurance. I didn't go into debt ONLY because of that coverage.

They charged me $40 for 2 Tylenol they gave me in the ER while I waited for them to come set my wrists and give me the big girl pain killers. $18 for a pregnancy test too prior to surgery that I couldn't refuse. Unreal.

  • Why do all the new TVs expect me to have a platform AS WIDE as the fucking thing?? Fucking shit!! God awful absolutely dumb thoughtless design choice
  • Tbf, sometimes the measurements are iffy. I bought a 55 inch TV that fits comfortably on my TV table. The TV had some issues so I went through a return with the manufacturer and they didn't have my specific TV in my size so they offered a 65 inch. I asked them if the measurements for the stand were the same and they read off the same distance as the 55 inch. I thought great! It will fit.

TV arrives and the stand legs were just an inch short on either side of the table, definitely not the same! But it still fit. I ended up securing the TV with those child straps just in case and plan to replace the table eventually.

Can't wall mount at the moment because of spacing issues but eventually will.

I had a similar issue with a monitor, the stand leg distance was listed but not the fact that it's width is half my desk. It doesn't help that some stores and manufacturers don't have a standardized list either.

  • Price of solar dropped 89% in ten years
  • We had a solar salesman come by once and told us he could lower our electricity bill the same amount as it would cost us to install the solar panels.

I knew there was something up with this but I decided to let him continue to talk anyways. He does this whole presentation with solar panels and how great they are for a good 30 minutes.

Finally we get to the money part and he keeps emphasizing that they will lower my electricity bill so the cost of them will be made up there. I push him for the total cost of them plus installation and I about died.

$30,000?!?? They literally wanted me to pay for these for 30 years. As long as my mortgage! Aaaaah!!!!

  • Not even the ghost of obsolescence can coerce users onto Windows 11
  • I upgraded to windows 11 at the urging of security updates and such.

They really took away a bunch of features that make it difficult, for me as someone with a disability, to use the computer comfortably. I have made complaints about the problem and have basically received only "thank you for your feedback".

I have a loss of mobility in my hands and wrists as well as arthritis, so sometimes I have difficulty using the mouse and clicking around on the screen.

They the slide bars on the side of the file explorer and the web browsers (at least what I've noticed so far) so tiny and hard to click for me since I don't have as much as accuracy as normal users. I have to very carefully focus and make sure I click properly or I can't slide the bar. I attempted to resize this through some settings but it ends up making the web browser slide bars too big and barely makes a difference for the file explorer.

Then in addition to that, the design of the task bar at the bottom where it's centered in the screen is extremely frustrating for me to use. I am constantly misclicking items there as it was and then they added a bunch that I didn't want. I spent probably an hour resizing it and removing unnecessary items there.

And while it doesn't relate to my disability, I didn't like the little dots they used to indicate an open program, I preferred the outline. Which you can change but it wasn't very intuitive, I had to figure it out through googling!

  • VR still makes 40-70% of players want to throw up, and that's a huge problem for the companies behind it
  • I tried a vr headset at a convention where they had it just giving you a virtual tour of a farm to show off what the headset could do.

I had to take it off in less than 30 seconds because it was giving me a migraine and making me feel sick.

  • VR still makes 40-70% of players want to throw up, and that's a huge problem for the companies behind it
  • The problem is in a car, your body is actually moving and your sense of movement aligns with what your eyes are seeing. I'm not an expert but there's something about fluid in your ears moving?

When it comes to gaming on a flat screen, your eyes are interpreting movement but you are not moving. This, from my understanding is what causes the motion sickness.

I can't use these VR headsets because they make me sick and give me migraines. I'm just fine playing on a TV or monitor though.

  • [image] Since many people seem to believe you can't tow with cars, here's roughly what dutch people end up doing on vacation.
  • My parents used to have a 2008 dodge Durango that they were told would be good enough to haul their 3500 lb camper. (Needed 7 seats for 5 kids + them)

This thing did not do well hauling the camper. It struggled going up the mountains where we vacationed and it struggled just as bad coming back down because the brakes couldn't handle the dead weight.

Now us kids have grown up and moved out and they got an F150 that hauls their new camper, about the same weight (3700 lb) like it's not even back there.

I think there's a lot more to it than how much weight the car can actually pull. But I couldn't say since I'm not that knowledgeable.
