Ween - The Mollusk (full album) [Alternative, Rock, Prog, NeoPsych, Nautical, Brown] (1994)
  • Ween are my favorite band. I think this is probably their best album.

This is an essential psych rock album but don't miss their other stuff either! Quebec is a good place to go after listening to this one. The fandom is very passionate and fun to be a part of.

P.S. Never pass up an opportunity to see them live!

Anyone know anything about this guy? Doesn't look like he was exactly a points machine for WIS last year. Maybe the coaches see potential in athleticism or something?

The Magnetic Fields Announce '69 Love Songs' 25th Anniversary Tour With All Album Personnel
  • Despite this being an obviously imperfect album, this is one of my all time favorites. I never seem to get bored of this record and I think the warts it has adds to the character of it all. It's certainly greater than the sum of its parts.

What are some of your favorite songs on here? Least favorite?

All My Little Words is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. How Fucking Romantic is not one of the beautiful songs I've heard.

  • www.stereogum.com The Magnetic Fields Announce '69 Love Songs' 25th Anniversary Tour With All Album Personnel

In 1999, Stephin Merritt released his magnum opus. Merritt and his Magnetic Fields might’ve considered the triple-disc masterpiece 69 Love Songs to be an experiment in sentimentality and factory-style songwriting, but the songs themselves are so good that they’ve continued to resonate for the past q...

    The Smile - Bending Hectic
  • This one will probably take me another listen or two to fully appreciate. As much as I love Radiohead I'm pretty happy with The Smile's output and can't say I'm too heartbroken Thom and Jonny are spending their time with this. Look forward to hearing more!

Obsidian responds to 'concerns' about Avowed's Xbox and PC visuals and scope
  • I think the graphics and the art look fine. What I really want is for this game to be Obsidian's big comeback and for the RPG elements to feel fully realized and fleshed out. I'm not sure if I'm totally sold from the trailer but I have Game Pass and look forward to trying it anyway.

  • What would you like to see out of Like A Dragon 8?

What are your expectations for the new Yakuza/Like A Dragon game? What would you like to see added/removed from previous entries?

I hope they go all in on variety between the two protagonists and the way their gameplay goes. There's a lot of potential there for surpassing Yakuza 0 in this regard by having more distinct settings (Kiryu in Japan, Ichiban in Hawaii) and combat. I'd love to them each keep their own gameplay styles too; switching between Kiryu and Ichiban as well as beat-em-up and turn-based combat respectively could make the gameplay loop feel super fresh and crazy addicting.

With that being said, I think I'd like to see Ichiban's half of gameplay scaled back a little bit in some areas. I'd like the total party to be four with no one on the bench - this would make it easier balancing RPG elements for only one half of the game and easier to revisit after breaks with Kiryu. I also hope they make tough fights a little less frustrating and make turn-based combat overall less grindy compared to Yakuza 7.

    What are your thoughts?

What would you like to see out of Like A Dragon 8?

What expectations do you have for the new Yakuza/Like A Dragon game next year? What would you like to added or removed from previous entries?

It's known that the story will include both Ichiban and Kiryu. According to the trailer released recently it looks like Ichiban will be sent to Hawaii which is an exciting idea. We have to assume Kiryu will get Japan to himself then. I think this idea of a dual setting is exciting for sure.

I also think the dual protagonist role can work really well with this one with potential to be better than Yakuza 0 in this regard. If Ichiban's half has turn-based gameplay and Kiryu's stays with a traditional beat em up then I think the gameplay loop could get very addicting and feel fresh switching between the two.

Because of the two protagonists mechanic I'd like to see this as an excuse to downsize Ichi's party to four total which will make the RPG elements a little more manageable and will hopefully scale nicely with sharing a game with Kiryu. I love Yakuza 7 but I hope they make the turn-based side of this new game is a little easier/less frustrating as well as make it less grindy.

Which was your favorite console controller and why?
  • Switch Pro controller. Xbox has a good controller but requiring AA batteries or an adjacent solution for a controller in 2023 is crazy. Switch Pro can last up to 40 hours on a rechargeable battery and it's just as comfortable.

  • How do you discover new (to you) music?
  • I'm going to hop on the rateyourmusic bandwagon. I've been using it for many years and documenting the music you've heard by virtue of rating them is incredibly helpful to understanding your own taste and finding bands in a similar sub genre as your favorite music. The chart function is incredible.

Another way I discover new music is simply jotting down albums discussed in forums like this one that I haven't heard before. The trick is not be too picky and just jump into anything and everything. Not everything will be a winner but I've discovered some of my favorite music ever by simply checking out projects that other users mention.
