Sonic block has started!
I wonder if it will have a classic single player mode
Use the website, it has an option to export your data to a file, and then import it. You don't need any 3rd party apps or anything.
The Sonic block should be really good as usual. Doom 64 is cool, Quake 2, Half-Life 2, StarCraft.
A LITERAL DOG playing Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZixOslQIgc
Morrowind (All Main Quests) should be good, we usually see Any% which is too quick because the game is very exploitable lol.
Zelda Link to the Past - All Dungeons (Swordless) should also be cool, this game has a huge variety of glitches so when you do awkward categories like this you really see them all demonstrated.
Mario World Kaizo Relay Race should be fun. Also look out for the Mario 64 Randomizer played blindfolded!
We also have a silly games block starting with Golf It!, then Monster Party, Birds Aren't Real: The Game, and more.
ESPN has an esports section too lol https://www.espn.com/esports/ it seems to be abandoned though
this is in person
I agree about some gimmicks like 2 players 1 controller, or playing games with a dance pad or whatever, they seem difficult but still feel like gimmicks to me
4-way races are ok if you're familiar with the game and speedrun already, but otherwise hard to watch
we've got a megathread for discussion over at [email protected] - https://programming.dev/post/16201685
but maybe there will be more discussion here instead?
anyways, it's live now, HYPE! https://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
pretty funny to see Sports Illustrated doing an article about this https://www.si.com/esports/speedrunning/summer-games-done-quick-starts
seems like they have a branch "Esports Illustrated"

Happy Cylobian Sunday!
This release comprises a selection of 11 standalone tracks originally featured on the 2007 album "Trojan Fader Style", where they are used as part of an hour-long mix.
semi-related, if anyone wants to chat about the Games Done Quick event itself, we have a megathread post in [email protected]

This is the song with the blowing into the microphone sounds lol.
Interesting that Aleksi has parts 1, 3, and "Part 00" on his Bandcamp, but not part 2? I think part 2 might be my favorite lol.

His album "Project V" is also similar and very good https://aleksiperala.bandcamp.com/album/project-v
on Thursday, don't miss Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball by Peanut Butter the Dog, live on stage this time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZixOslQIgc
I'm also pretty hyped for the Sonic block on Monday: Sonic Project 06 (modded version of 06 so it's actually good?), Sonic Robo Blast 2 (open source fangame in the Doom/GZDoom engine, actually probably the best 3d sonic game ever made), and Sonic 3 & Knuckles

and it's live! stream shows a countdown of 5 minutes now
Cure vs Dark first, then Creator vs Maru!
Ok I know we have our own instance and community so I can technically spam as many posts as I want, but still it would feel excessive lol. Rock Paper Shotgun also just put out an article, so I'll just link it in here.

[PCGamer] 24 years later, you can finally pet the dog in Deus Ex thanks to its all-encompassing Randomizer mod
The Deus Ex Randomizer also features some bafflingly good quality of life features, including ones that make the classic game a better fit on Steam Deck.

Welcome to the fediverse: Your guide to Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky, and more
What is the fediverse? Here's everything you need to know about Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky and others.
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.zip/post/18019157
> > Once upon a time, in a galaxy not so far away (this one, in fact), a few internet rebels decided that they were tired of the corporate overlords controlling their online lives. Thus, the fediverse was born — an attempt to wrest control of microblogging services, such as Twitter and its ilk, away from centralized powers and into the hands of the people.
Semi off topic, but isn't the subscriber count badge useless now since Lemmy fixed their reporting of that?
HomeStory Cup 25 grand finals match
taketv went live on Twitch. Catch up on their StarCraft II VOD now.
This was a fun one!
Plenty of site to participate in and plenty to talk/post about that doesn't involve your thing.
I comment plenty, and anything else I want to post has already been posted. I guess the only way is to start following RSS feeds to post things more quickly lol. I'm not gonna do that though.
Also the fact that they count it site-wide instead of sub-wide means if you create your own sub or use an appropriate niche sub, you're gonna screw up your own ratio.
It's ok to have a rule like this in case of abusers. But I'm not being abusive about it, I'm not using AI, and I'm getting many upvotes. The 10% rule is incredibly strict if applied indiscriminately.
Message text so you don't have to read the image:
Hi /u/Die4Ever,
Thank you for posting to /r/Games. Unfortunately, we have removed this submission per Rule 8.
Promotional Content Requirements
We have strict rules for promoting content. Posting links to your own or affiliated content are considered self-promotion. Promotion should not be the main purpose of your account, you should be an active, participating member of this community first. Violation of these rules can result in a ban either on your user or on the site or game in question. Remember that Reddit has its own advertising feature which is a much better, appropriate way to use Reddit for the purpose of advertising!
Post Compensation and Disclosure - Receiving compensation of any kind to post about something without disclosure is strictly against the rules. This includes money, Reddit Gold, or anything in between.
Account History Requirement - No more than 10% of your submissions across all of Reddit may be to any single site, profile, or channel. This is not limited to your own content: you can be in violation of the promotion rules for a site that you have no direct affiliation with. Comments usually do not factor into the 10% rule. That being said, we can take comments into account if we feel they are being used to circumvent the 10% submission restriction (such as posting a specific domain repeatedly in comments) Additionally, moderators may use their discretion when it comes to multiple sources about the same topic in relation to promotional limits.
If you have any questions or would like additional clarification on the promotion rules for /r/Games, feel free to send the mods a message about it!
This is considered an official warning. Further Rule 8 violations may result in greater consequences, up to and including an account and/or domain ban from this subreddit.
If you would like to discuss this removal, please modmail the moderators. This post was removed by a human moderator; this comment was left by a bot.
Thoughts on the self promotion rules that many Reddit subs have?
Isn't this what upvotes and downvotes are for? Do they only want posts about billionaire mega corporations? 10% is a really strict cutoff for people that make things as a hobby. What else am I gonna post when everything else is already posted instantly? I can't post to r/pcgaming for the same reason.
I'm not trying to sell anything, it's a free download, my videos aren't monetized, I don't accept donations. I'm an active commenter too even if I don't make many posts there. My posts get lots of upvotes with good ratios, and I space out my posts so they're not frequent at all.
Also the fact that they count it site-wide instead of sub-wide means if you create your own sub or use an appropriate niche sub, you're gonna screw up your own ratio.
[PCGamesN] This Deus Ex Randomizer makes the whole game feel fresh, and it just got better

The BIG List of Video Game Randomizers (now open source)
SmashManiac originally ran the site but recently converted it into an open source project. Here's the announcement
You can view the new open source version of the site here
It's still early in the transition but I've converted it into a Jekyll build based on yaml data. Unfortunately I've been mostly working alone, we'd love some more contributors! If you know any of: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jekyll, or Liquid templates then check out the Github and maybe submit some pull requests to help us out
We'd like to keep the project simple, but here's our issues list for ideas
