Do you prefer dream journaling using apps or paper? Why? Also, if you use apps to dream journal, which ones do you use?
I’ll go first. I dream journal with an app because I type much faster than I write, and I can actually understand my writing because I write very messy when I just wake up. I use an app called DreamKit to journal my dreams.
I use paper notebook, as starting computer would be time-consuming and distracting. Also it's easier to draw something if I decide to (it's not so often, but sometimes i do).
I tried writing a dream journal by hand before, but my horrible handwriting combined with my extreme sleep inertia made me write in a way that would make most doctors jealous - Needless to say, I lost most of my dreams. I did try phones too, with note taking pads but too much brightness causes my eyes to burn and too little means I can't see anything. Normally I don't need to see my keyboard for typing, but when your motor functions are still booting up, not seeing the keyboard usually means ntow fo vmoa o,wqgq dw
Also recording my voice is out of the question as well- It takes 10 mins for me to actually use my lungs and to breathe without suffering I need to stay up atleast 1-2 hours depending on the longevity of my hibernation
Man, I haven't journaled in a long time, but when I did I used Lucidity. That app was amazing, kept track of and tagged about two hundred some odd different dreams over the course a couple years. Those were the days. Nowadays, I'd be lucky if I get more than 5 hours of sleep.
Personally, I prefer to use a dedicated notebook. I find that it's faster and easier to type something like this out, but - like the learning process - I think there's something to engaging your brain in the handwriting process that makes it more effective.
I've tried both notebooks and apps, and both have their perks. Personally I like apps better, since typing is faster for me as well and I have my phone with me all the time, so it's easy to continue writing later, in the bus or something, if I don't have time to finish when I wake up. It just makes it easier for me to keep up the habit. Also sometimes I remember some extra details when writing and on phone it's easy to go back and edit things. One thing I like about paper is that I can draw things, sometimes that's easier than putting it into words.
