At this point its a sarcophagus recovery. Its probably been a sarcophagus recovery for at least a few hours. I would go as far as to say the "banging" that sonar detected was not the people in the vessel.
Best case scenario is that all on board were immediately crushed by the pressure. Worst case scenario is the vessel chamber filled with CO2 and the occupants passed out. Either way, the death itself was most likely painless, but the terror they felt beforehand (if they werent instantly killed) would not be fun last moments.
Obviously hope I am wrong and that they're still alive, but the chances are so incredibly small at this point.
Yeah it's most likely already too late. Hopefully it was a quick and painless end and they haven't been stuck in that tiny container for days at the bottom of the ocean. The depth is so insanely deep that it's likely it will take months to find the sub if it is lying on the ocean floor.
