Three Baldur's Gate 3 questions

cross-posted from: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/1237626

First two questions are related to the Berserker subclass of the Barbarian class. I am trying to make sense of it.

1. Frenzy description says "your Rage turns into a frenzy as you release your unquenchable fury and bloodlust". What is Rage exactly? Looks like I can cast the ability at any point in combat so I think Rage might be irrelevant but I wanted to make sure anyway.

2. I would like to throw stuff as Berserker for damage but I am not sure what are some good things to chuck that I can pick up. Any suggestions for this? So far I have only thrown a mind flayer corpse but the range on that was not good.

The third question is about long rests.

3. Is there any downside to long rests? I was thinking we will turn into mind flayers if we take too long but I am not sure if that is the case.

Thanks.

    1. Rage gives you damage resistance and advantage on strength saving throws. It's what makes barbarians tanky. Berserkers rage turns into frenzy which allows them to use frenzied attacks and frenzied throws as bonus actions.

    2. Weapons! Any weapon with the thrown tag (daggers, spears, javelins, handaxes) will deal their damage when thrown, plus any bonuses you have to throw attacks. For example, you really want the tavern brawler feat if you like throwing stuff because it gives you a bunch of extra damage. There are also items like rings and gloves that give you extra throwing damage. If you're interested in multi-classing, the eldritch knight subclass has a feature called bound weapon that makes your main hand weapon return to you after being thrown.

    3. No, the only downside is the cost of supplies. Rest all you want and let the continued storyline explain the tadpole and transformation.

    • Thanks. Coincidentally before I read your reply I picked up a bunch of javelins and have been throwing them to great effect. I'll pick up swords, daggers, etc. too. I haven't been able to make use of rage/frenzy too well so far but practice will fix it.

    1. Afaik no, except you have to have food. And don't ever rest if you chosen Urge as your character and regret it.
    • Is that the dragonborn character? Didn't choose them thankfully.

      • Can be customised to every race and profession. At first i didn't noticed the normal custom character above in the menu so i though this is the customisable option and created this and reading description i thought it will be some epic inner struggle and character recovery trip, but then you get unavoidable random brutal murders regardless even if you succeed all the will throws and do everything you can to avoid it.

I wanted dragonborn btw, dragonborns are awesome (just helmets and hats looks awful so turn that off).

  • To be fair, I had a whole write-up ready to post in response, but then realized that I've no idea how far you've played before asking these. I don't want to spoil things, so please give me an idea (without spoiling things for others, ofc). Personally, I've found three separate solutions as of today to a certain subterranean quest seed and have ~60hrs into the game since early beta.

    • Act I spoilers

I just killed the three Goblin leaders in fair battle so super stoked about that. Yet to talk to Halsin. Apart from that I have beaten Auntie Ethel in her hag form but not killed her. I have also found my way into the Underdark. There I have found the people who the fungi hate (I forgot their name). They are level 5 and obliterate me so I am avoiding them for now. I am hoping killing them and talking to the Sovereign will help me find the Nightsong but I will find that out later.

      • This is the spoiler tag, btw : >!Your entire comment above is visible, please fix it ASAP.!<

"> !" and then close with the reverse "! <" (remove the spaces & quotation marks, ofc)
