Because capitalism sucks, and being a wage slave isn't actually fun.

Unity is creating a "install fee" for their developers, and tried to apply it retroactively
www.polygon.com Game devs say Unityβs big change puts studios at riskβThis will eat up a massive amount of our revenueβ
> Unityβs runtime fee will be collected once a game βhas passed a minimum revenue threshold in the last 12 monthsβ and βhas passed a minimum lifetime install count,β according to the blog post.
> Unity Personal and Unity Plus customers must pay $0.20 per install after reaching $200,000 of revenue in the past year and having more than 200,000 lifetime game installs.
> Unity Pro and Unity Enterprise users will pay $0.15 and $0.125 per install, respectively, after making $1 million in the past year and having more than 1 million lifetime game installs. (Those fees will decrease as higher thresholds are met.)
You literally pay less the richer you are. Most efficient system.
Thankfully the retroactive bit was dropped, but Jesus what a horrible decision. Really sucks that Unreal is also complete trash for 2D development (which is the main indie environment), but at least Godot got more devs.

Mobile Games
Do you play any games on your smartphone? I'm looking for single player ones to kill some time when waiting for the bus. Ideally they should work without an internet connection, so I can disable network access for that app and play without ads.
I'm currently playing Words of Wonder, but it gets repetitive after a while.
-
Lies of Pee
Anyone tried playing it yet? It's on Game Piss so I've been giving it a whirl.
I like it so far. It is truly a Souls-like. The combat is very similar to the swordplay subset of Dark Soul 3 combat. There are some mechanics that are new and some of the mechanics have been tweaked to feel different.
A while ago I saw people comparing it to Bloodborne but apart from being set in British it feels more like Dark Souls.
I have been enjoying the boss battles a lot. They are very challenging. I die 20 times to the difficult ones. They feel fair nontheless. The only problem is the long walk back to the bosses which is slightly annoying.
Pretty fun so far. I am only nearing completion Chapter III though.

Anyone here played The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood?
question about the game. Has story spoilers.
There is a bit where you are supposed to point out the flaw in Dalhia's election program. One of the options says something like "point out that communism has failed on Earth everytime". Anyone knows what Patrice says if you pick this option? Looking for something to get mad about.

Starfield final impressions
g\*mer whining
I have given this game a fair chance. Maybe 8-10 hours of gameplay. But I can't go on. This game is really bad. It's just so dull. I feel like I'm at someone's wake. It's overly reliant on shooting but the shooting feels so bad. Especially laser weapons. The projectile look so weird.
-
Starfield early impressions
very early game soft spoilers
I managed to play an hour or so of the game. The early part feels really boring. Disregard that I tried to fly my spaceship to Kreet for five minutes without realising that I had to press A and select it to land on it because I probably skipped some tutorial prompt. When I get to New Atlantis the game feels really lifeless. There are many interactable characters around with good voice acting but the combination of the atmosphere, the music, the way that conversations go, the generic chosen one plot, it feels really boring.
Does it get better?
Also my diplomat character cannot persuade for shit.

Armored Core VI - Chapter 4 Final Boss
Any tips? I am a bit stuck on this one.
boss spoilers
I am trying a double melee build but seeing how fast and jittery this enemy is, I think that's a bad idea.
I don't wanna use double shotguns or double gatling guns. They make the game too trivial.
-
Armored Core VI soundtrack is amazing
It just complements the atmosphere, world and storyline so well.
Someone on cs.rin ripped the mp3 from the Deluxe Edition. You can download them from here if you want:

You all ever tried solo RPGs?

Three Baldur's Gate 3 questions
cross-posted from: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/1237626
> First two questions are related to the Berserker subclass of the Barbarian class. I am trying to make sense of it. > > 1\. Frenzy description says "your Rage turns into a frenzy as you release your unquenchable fury and bloodlust". What is Rage exactly? Looks like I can cast the ability at any point in combat so I think Rage might be irrelevant but I wanted to make sure anyway. > > 2\. I would like to throw stuff as Berserker for damage but I am not sure what are some good things to chuck that I can pick up. Any suggestions for this? So far I have only thrown a mind flayer corpse but the range on that was not good. > > The third question is about long rests. > > 3\. Is there any downside to long rests? I was thinking we will turn into mind flayers if we take too long but I am not sure if that is the case. > > Thanks.

Pre-Order thoughts
After the debacle that was Destiny 2, which I pre-ordered for $100 (which was a lot back then), I swore off ever pre-ordering games ever again. However Starfield is out soon, and I have been dying to play it itβs the whole reason I bought my Series X. So, do I preorder it?

Did you play Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic?
YouTube Video
It's a city builder type simulation game where you'll be managing the workers and resources. The focus of this game lies in simulating the economic system of socialist and communist states in the 60s to 90s era. I hear it has a good amount of learning curve and can be difficult during the initial gameplay. Have anyone here played it before? How was your experience?

Baldur's Gate 3 releases on Steam
store.steampowered.com Baldur's Gate 3 on SteamBaldurβs Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.

Anyone else excited to play Baldurs Gate 3? What will your first character be like?
Iβll be making the queerest, gayest, most simping character fighting for marginalized people(my kind of power fantasy) ever. How that looks like in specifics? No idea, I will probably take 2h or more in character creation figuring out who they are/what they look like :D

Interest in a Vintage Story server
Would anyone join a vintage story server? I would probably do it by whitelist, and have a few mods installed.
For the unfamiliar Vintage Story is (to me) a sort of spiritual successor and awesome extension of the idea behind the Minecraft mod Terrafirmacraft
The mods I've been using that I remember are Better Ruins, DR Decor, Ceramos, medieval expansion, maybe a couple others... if I can get it working, I really want to add a sailboat mod.
For worldgen I want to make things interesting and do a hot climate or a cold climate... probably a hot climate. I like the idea of growing pineapples :D
Some gameplay concerns: I have heard that food rotting is a problem on multiplayer because of the passage of time with no players online? Could we set up the server to pause time when nobody's on? We could probably have one collective farm so that whoever's on can take care of it and just put the harvest in a basket for others to take as needed. Really, we could probably pool a lot of stuff and get something like a commune going. I would probably play around an hour a day until September at which point I would try to set aside a couple hours a week :)
Anyways, interested in other's ideas.

Is Monster Hunter: World good?
I like RPGs. Final Fantasy, Witcher 3, Fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, etc.
Will I enjoy Monster Hunter: World? Is it good? Does it have a good story? Or is it (too) fetch-questy?
I'm looking at this one because it's available with Spanish audio and text whereas other Monster World games only have Spanish text, if that. So the others aren't an option, but feel free to compare this one to the others.
- www.eurogamer.net Can you make an anti-imperial empire game?
The 4Xperts behind Civilization, Syphilisation and Victoria 3 discuss eXperimental 4X design.
The game looks cute, although a bit barebones. I hope someday we get bigger Grand Strategy games that build on this to go against all those ahistorical and empire-focused conventions of 4X games, because that's my most consistent complaint I tend to have, and I otherwise love the genre.
Really sucks for me that you can't negotiate trade routes, form voluntary duchy unions or actually form proper factions with overarching ideology in Crusader Kings for instance. What they said about making it a non-zero sum strategy and allowing for proper cooperation seems right up my alley.
Hope they don't get sued by Take-Two.
>When I was playing Victoria 3, I was playing the Philippines, obviously, and all I cared about was how the Philippines looked. It's a puppet state of Spain and like, I couldn't give two shits if there was a civil war in the US. What I cared about was, how do we free ourselves from the Spanish yoke?
Mood.

Anyone here played Baldur's Gate 3?
I like the idea of playing these RPG games but can't stand the combat. This is why Disco Elysium is my favourite game of all time. It had RPG elements, great story, narration, dialogue and voice acting and wasn't bogged down by a combat system I didn't like.
I have tried Divinity I and II, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Pillars of Eternity. I left them at some point because I did not enjoy the combat one bit. With Pathfinder I even tried story mode to trivialise the combat but since the combat is such a big part of the game, I didn't enjoy it even then.
If anyone here has played Baldur's Gate 3 please let me know of your experience. Even if I end up not liking it I would really like to hear what you all think of it.
