It's not the same over here... I miss reddit. People on Lemmy are defeatet and/or want to go full world war 3, instead of uniting to prevent it. How many people on here are bots?... How many on here are spies... I miss reddit. There were bad people over there too... But the majority were good. The majority were logical and united. I miss reddit. I think I don't like Lemmy.
Go on. Tell me all the ways reddit sucks. Don't give me hope of unification. Don't stand with me. Just write the comment you came here to write.
I get the exact opposite impression, you seem much more like the average user here or BlueSky. Reddit is chock full of terrible negativity, right wing brainwashed misinformation, toxicity, bots, shit posts, clickbait, trolls, etc. Our experiences couldn't be more different, I'm amazed.
I'm a pacifist. I think violence is rarely appropriate. I'm also not going to say stay, if you found people on Reddit like that by all means stay.
You'll be back here anyways after you get banned for upvoting a post with Luigi in it lol.
The problem is the political side of Lemmy. Many people are acting exactly as they've been trained to act. Docile and defeated, full of desinformation. People on Reddit have more hope and will to push back. In form of different protests. Somebody on here actually commented that they learned the language the shall not be named, in the wait of an invasion. Wich is so sad, because we need to stick together and unite. Especially if article 5 will be challenged.
Sorry bud, I understand your position. I miss the old reddit too but less so what it has morphed into the past couple years. Lemmy is young, and yeah, some folks here walk/cross some lines I wouldn't. There is a bit of a bot problem creeping in but lemmy is t big enough for that to be a serious problem yet.
But then again you're exactly the user we need. My presence here is what I want lemmy to be and yeah, I've locked horns with some folks on some discussions. In the end it's us users who make lemmy what it is.
If you miss Reddit, it is still available online, accessible via smartphones and web browsers. You can reinstall Reddit. This doesn't mean you should abandon Lemmy for Reddit or leave Reddit for Lemmy. Both are different platforms, but you can use both, as I do. There are different agreements to sign, and it is harmless for us to use both. I believe it's more fun and diverse.
This place is yours to build and make better without the heavy hand of spez and corporate Reddit. Sure there are power tripping egotistical mods, trolls and bots here just the same, but you can report bad behaviour, contribute non-defeatist good discussion with more thoughtful nuanced takes, submit non-political content in posts, and actually make a difference, unlike Reddit.
This place is yours to build and make better
Spot-on remark. This exactly the feeling Lemmy gives me. It's new and growing but definitely searching it's position. There is more of a learning-curve than reddit, but the more I learn, the more I like it. I quit reddit cold-turkey and never looked back, never had regrets.
I mean, the big difference is that on Reddit, you're the product. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am on both and trying to gradually transition over to here. One thing is to be aware that you can block entire instances here. Once I blocked hexbear and lemmygrad, the quality of my feed improved pretty dramatically.
I haven’t found that to be the case. However I did spend some time customizing the communities in my Home feed to have less news/politics and more stuff I like.
To be honest what you say is not my experience, what instances have you been browsing? There are a few tankie instances but nobody likes them, if you've been there I understand you.
I feel the users are very similar to Reddits, probably the 99% of users migrated from there for the reason that reddit sucks significantly much more than before and it is the same reason you are here too.
We are all defeated by the current events and nobody who isn't braindead wants WW3. Give it time, more users will migrate and with it more diversity. The community is growing so be the change you want to see.
Yeah I dont like that. But I don't want an echo chamber, I want a discussion. A factual and open mature discussion. I don't like blocking users because I don't agree with them. But I would love to see more hope and grit. Be the change you wanna see, I guess.
I got banned from an instance for listing them previously, so I cannot. There's one in particular who had multi-million karma on Reddit and started just making the same posts on Lemmy, and they're all very much pushing an agenda with ragey clickbait. Just keep an eye out on the front page for the same name to pop up and you'll start to notice a pattern with the big posters.
I will say that I've only had Lemmy installed for a few days and I kinda feel the same way.
Mostly because I see the HUGE potential that Lemmy has, but right now, for the most part, it's very quiet here. Maybe I haven't found the right communities yet, but most posts I'm seeing don't get very much engagement or discussion going. It feels like a ghost town here, which is sad because Lemmy feels like it has so much potential.
Lemmy is also confusing for non-techy users. I'm a software dev, and I find the federation part annoying and slightly confusing. It seems like every server has a 'technology' community, for example. Which one do I follow? I don't have time to look at each one and see which has the most active and fun discussions. That's the advantage that Reddit has: for the most part, it's really easy to discover really active communities.
IDK, I just wish there was a way for Lemmy to feel less segmented, easier to discover actually active and fun communities, and had more users. I won't leave, but I'm not feeling warm and cozy here so far.
I'm not defeated. I will never quit. I came here because I don't want to pay reddit with watching their ads... And I also got blocked for talking a lot about the boycott. Trying to delete my account was a hassle. I think I made this post to find the right people. To shed some light on how it feels to come from reddit to Lemmy. And also to get the vibe of how much shit I can get with a post like this. But I'm positively surprised. Most people who commented here are being really nice and encouraging.
Oh my God stop being so melodramatic and go back to the algorithm-fueled slop of nureddit. "You don't like Lemmy" NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE: We don't like YOU here if you're only going to complain
Permabanned here - my crime was to evade ban (inadvertently, with 2nd account commenting in r/Conservatives), say Russian orcs should be killed, and that Reddit was (partially) owned by the CCP and operating in the interest.
Idgaf what anyone thinks about me saying that Russian culture is shit and the world will not know peace until that culture is defeated in war, because it’s fucking true.
I haven’t been able to find active non-political or geographically relevant communities on Lemmy, and not sure how to.
