Voting is officially open for the 2024 Lemmy Anime Awards. The voting window will remain open until ~05:00 UTC on Dec. 30th (1 week from this post). I have included the final list of nominees (in case you missed it earlier this week) below with each category as a spoiler tag to help keep them organized.
Voting is done using STAR Voting. So, you will be able to assign each nominee a score from 0-5. The higher your score, the more you want that candidate to win or think it is more deserving. You can assign multiple nominees the same score, indicating that you have no preference between the two of them. For more info on STAR voting, check wikipedia. I have also included below, a quick visual reference to help:

Thank you everybody for taking the time to submit nominations for these awards. I have learned a lot of lessons from this endeavor and have already thought of lots of ways that these can be improved on for next year. So, if you have thoughts/ideas/concerns, definitely share them with me either in this thread or reach out to me privately.
Finally, a reminder that there are also elections happening for manga and light novels as well:
Will you be posting a reminder nearer to the closing date?
I'm hoping to watch some of the nominees - and give a more informed vote - instead of just giving them a score of 0, but I don't want to accidentally miss out on voting.
Now that I'm voting I'm realizing that this system seems especially harsh on shows that not many people watched. If a user leaves a bubble blank that's equivalent to a 0? Ouch. If people don't read the instructions they might not realize that they're unintentionally trashing shows they know nothing about.
I agree with you, but I don't think there is a good way around the issue of name recognition. My preferred voting method (ranked-choice voting) still would have had that issue, but perhaps a bit less punishing. However, the problem that I ran into with the ranking question type used by this survey software is that it wasn't compatible across browsers. That is why I fell back to doing STAR voting instead. I think either is better than simple multiple choice in which you can only vote for a single nominee in each category though.
This is something I am going to try to work on for the future if we do something like this again.

I have ideas. Something I wanted for the LN community since day one but don't see ever happening there. Let's get some mods together on discord after this one is done
