Man, these are absolutely beautiful pieces of design
33 0 ReplyBoy, we absolutely could not imagine a future without diskette drives. 😂
25 0 ReplyFloppies were the most ubiquitous storage device for a while so it's no surprise. Nowadays it could be a few USB type A ports. We're slowly switching to USB type C but type A has now been standard for around two decades.
15 0 ReplyCloud storage and using web based software has pretty much made any kind of physical storage redundant for most people.

Damn, that phone prototype is crazy-small for the 1980s -- it looks like a Motorola Razr V3 (2004)!
Even if it were just a cordless landline phone (with less demanding hardware than a cellular phone), battery size would be a problem because lithium-ion hadn't been invented yet. I'm not sure Ni-Cd batteries that thin ever existed.
16 1 ReplyProbably intended to run on a pair of CR2032s or something. With an uptime of two days idle.

Hey thanks for sharing this stuff is pretty neat
I myself was born in 93. Can still appreciate prototypes from before my time.
Well...... I'm just trying to make a joke and nothing comes to mind lmao

10 0 ReplyHey that's super cool to hear
You actually used many of the cassettes and stuff you're posting about?
First off let me say that I'm not here to establish some kind of supremacy blah blah blah
Basically different audio: tape, cassette, CD, all of it is different for separate reasons
Would be curious as to what you mean music playback is

I like the one that looks like a laptop crossed with an Apple IIc. It’s like a beautiful counterpart to those 80s Amstrad luggables.
6 0 Reply100% would have believed that first picture was AI if you told me
