Anime General Discussion Thread, Favorite Fall Season OP/ED Edition [2024, Week 44]

Previous Thread | Next Thread

It's time for the seasonal OP/ED roundup! I want to hear about your favorite OPs and EDs for the season (alternatively, your least favorites!). If you are looking for a collection of them all for this season, you can find almost all of them at the link below:

Just a note that you can absolutely use this thread like you would any other general discussion thread. So, feel free to post questions/comments/recommendations like any other week.

As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here (also linked in the sidebar).

  • your favorite OPs and EDs for the season

Only Otonoke from Dan Da Dan is catchy enough for me.

Watched Handa-kun, but it was just so-so. Its sequel, Barakamon has a higher rating, so hopefully it is better.

    • Otonoke is really the standout for this season. Going through all the rest of this season, nothing really came close

  • Weekly ranking roundup:

    1. Anime Corner - Full Results - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan
    2. Reddit Karma - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan
    3. Anime Trending - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan

Credit to /u/Abysswatcherbel for making the chart for reddit karma and /u/Nooble5 for the Anime Trending chart.

It is a Dan Da Dan sweep across all three charts this week. The show is on a tear up against the big hitters of Re:Zero and Bleach. We will see if it can maintain this as it moves into a new arc with episode 5.

  • I picked out a handful of my favorite OPs and EDs and grouped them by shows that I am watching vs. shows that I am not watching. I also threw in a couple random mentions at the end for fun. These are in no particular order.

    From shows I am watching

From shows I am not watching

    Honorable Mentions

  • From the anime I'm watching, the only OP and ED that really stand out are the ones from Dandadan. The other ones are fine.

And honestly, that kinda sums up this season in so far in general for me. There are some I'm enjoying a fair amount, but not much that stands out. Even Re:Zero I'm not enjoying as much as I'd have hoped. Maybe I'm in a bit of a slump or I'm watching the wrong things.

    • Some seasons are like that. I have also had seasons where irl stuff caused me to not really get into a show that I later enjoyed a lot. We don't watch this stuff in a vacuum and stuff going on in the rest of our life colors how we receive something. There are decades of anime or even non-anime stuff out there to explore. I have mentioned elsewhere that I kind of have a list of shows/manga that I know I am probably going to like, but haven't watched/read yet, that I can turn to if I need something like a palate cleanser.

  • Just binged season 1 of Attack on Titan.

    IMO it is overrated.

    1. Besides the scenes where they are swinging around with their mobility devices, the animation is completely a slideshow.
    2. There's way too much narration and exposition.
    3. The scriptwriter / original writer tried to make the characters sound cool, but they just ended up with stupid dialogue.
    4. The recaps are as long as the ones in Undead Unluck, taking up close to 10% of each episode's runtime.

Thankfully, the story and world-building is good, which is not surprising considering it is Gundam but with meat robots.

    So I'm going to give it a 8 / 10

Also, now that I watched AoT, Kaiju No. 8 feels like a dumbed-down knock-off.

    • S1 is the weakest of the bunch imo. I had the same thoughts initially. Then season 2 started and it just became infinitely better for me.

Also, now that I watched AoT, Kaiju No. 8 feels like a dumbed-down knock-off.

      Yeah, it absolutely is.

  • I have a question. Are there any communities where i can watch anime webm/mp4 - short anime fanmade videos (for example) +AMV +otoMAD? What is marked as "clip" in r/anime is not exactly what i mean. I know there are 4chan thread where some people post that kind of videos, but too few of them

And why AMV and genral anime videos are not so widespread in Reddit and lemmy? r/amv is not really popular and the videos that i found, for example in r/bocchitherock, were have maybe 10-70 upvotes. Just because youtube and animemusicvideos.org or animenews exist?

    • If you find/make one I would be interested in it.

    • The short answer to your first paragraph is that I don't know of any communities for sharing short-form edited clips like that. A silly one like that might not be out of place somewhere like [email protected].

As for AMV, sakuga compilations, and other general videos, they would be welcome in this community, we just haven't had many people submitting them. Occasionally people submit videos of popular reviewers doing a seasonal rundown (e.g. Gigguk's in a Nutshell videos). I also occasionally post 1-2 minute clips from shows (unedited). If we started to have a flood of video posts, then I might have to make rules about it, but it hasn't been an issue yet.

      • Thank you for answer. I have been planning to create a community on this topic for a long time. Maybe I will do it soon, when I figure out how it should look like... and find enough sources for it. Thanks again
