Good! HistoryMemes is starting to get other regular contributors. HistoryIllustrations and HistoryPorn also have been seeing more contributions from other posters.
I dream of the day when I can post only rarely and silently upvote other people's content instead.
[email protected] had its worst day ever yesterday as far as downvotes go. I normally get the random 1 or 2, in rare cases it can creep near 10, but we almost got 80 yesterday!
I went to do my morning posts and saw a regular commenter shared some AI art they had enjoyed, and while nobody said anything, they were really smacking the downvotes. I tried to diffuse the situation a bit, especially since it's a regular commenter whom I enjoy, and I don't want the community to drive off one of the few actual participants we have.
While everyone already had the sticks up their butts, I decided to share the one cartoon post I had in my queue, which we also eventually learned was AI generated, so the same group brigaded me pretty much. Joke's on them though, because it got appeal to All since it was a comic, so it's probably my top post for the year.
Posted some more normal things today and everyone seems to have moved on. I debated if I was going to post anything today after what I considered kinda crappy behavior from the group, but I took the high road. But if bad reactions make me hesitate to post, they certainly aren't helping anyone on the fence.
There has been a good smattering of posts from people other than me lately, so I hope it continues, but people need to be more chill.
Wow 80 downvotes! Some people really get their knickers in a twist don't they? It would be interesting to see how many of them spend their free time making quality posts, with beautiful photos, complete with a few Fun Facts for others to enjoy...
Maybe we need to add a proviso 'it's just some fun, chill the fuck out'
Don't stop posting tho, I love your love of owls
(btw, I recently saw a Barn Owl out hunting just before dusk, flying around the moors. We were side by side with him/her flying, and me driving, then we pulled over to watch from a distance. It was amazing, I've seen one before as a white ghost appearing, then disappearing just as quickly, as I shit my pants. This time tho I got to see the markings and it's face quite clearly....great stuff!)
If people can't make a constructive comment, I'm sure they're not providing enjoyable content anywhere else.
That sounds like a great experience you got to have! Owls have been amazing us and jump scaring us since the caveman days, and they show no signs of stopping!
I tend to forget we have mods, as we're typically drama free. I've talked to the original one a few times and they've always been helpful and have told me to ask for help if I need it.
They've said as long as it's owl content, it should be good. I've expressed my concerns about AI images before, and I have no issue if it's obvious stuff, which this was.
The only other time I've gotten anger really was when the mod asked me to do an actual Super Bowl owl event. The non sport and non US people were getting ticked and DMing me stuff.
People are allowed to not like things, but I do posts that don't interest me. I don't downvote hobbies or news that doesn't interest me. Not everything has to be for me and my enjoyment, but other people can't see that.
I super appreciate your community! Unfortunately I encounter bunnies and can thus make bunny content for [email protected] far more frequently than I encounter snakes of any type, let alone the royal python. I can try to explicitly look up royal pythons to post so you're not alone!
I also think this is happening because right now, we are so small that we do not have enough users to split the snake-lover community by species just yet.
I have noticed that the otome creators who are on the Fediverse are on Mastodon. I'm not going to give up on [email protected], I prefer threaded discussion to microblogging, especially because threaded discussion allows more characters per post. But I figure if I want to help grow otome on Fedi and show there are interested gamers here, maybe attract some otome players to post here instead of r/otomegames, maybe I should go where there are people. (And try to get them to post on [email protected]!) I love r/otomegames, nice bunch of people, no hate, it is just⦠well⦠on Reddit. I came to Fedi to get off of Reddit. I applied on https://mstdn.games and am waiting for approval.
Still very grateful for the one person who is not me who makes posts on [email protected], they have their own communities that are pretty cool too! Check out theirs at [email protected]
Thanks! The community is growing slower, but now keeps consistently ofter 1000 MAU.
I don't think I will do the migration to floonet.social after all. Instead, I want to wait until the Lemmy devs implement the admin option to disable image upload (which they want to implement in the next months). This way, you could still see images from other instances, but not upload images yourself.
Not too bad.....I'm mainly the only one posting on collage although the lovely Eugenia Loli has posted there too, there is a printmaker Julien_Catenese who posts their work on printmaking which is awesome, and several people are posting OC to abstract photography which I'm really pleased about!
I'm also making posts for [email protected] and [email protected], while trying to not burn myself out, or get too frustrated by lemmys photo upload limit (which can be really stressful when I want to make a Mega Post with plenty of pictures) .... Essentially, I'm just trying to amuse myself first and foremost, maybe learn something new π
My communities are all going slow and steady as usual. [email protected] is likely to reach 1k subs soon.
I've been really enjoying [email protected] and helping with an active lemmy community for the game has been fun. Even made an original meme.
I'm a little cross with the mod of [email protected] as they've banned me for "deliberate" rule-breaking. Not marking posts NSFW whenever danbooru arbitrarily rates them as "sensitive". This despite the rules not requiring this, but rather requesting that posters use the same verbal guidelines. (I complied the first time the mod complained, the second time my post was obviously safe, so as nothing made sense to me at that point, I responded by deleting it along with a promise not to post anymore, this got me banned for "deliberately breaking community rules")
As such I'll be taking [email protected] under my wing instead, so go sub there if you like Touhou, or the type of content I post in general :D
Our group of airheads has a lot of crossover with ani.social's audience, so that took a hit when ani.social got themselves defederated from our instance and others. I'd post to [email protected] if I could.
