California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have helped Black families reclaim or be compensated for land that was taken unjustly by the government through eminent domain.
The bill was dependant on an agency that would have been created by another bill, that was blocked from passing. So passing this bill would have had no agency to actually carry it out. All it would have done is create a massive backlog when/if the supporting bill actually passes.
He stopped a pointless waste of money, time, and energy. It is better to veto it and wait for a new bill that can actually do something.
I don't like Newsom, but the blame and fault should fall on California lawmakers this time.
