Nominate a Film for Fedi Film Club - "Fringe Theater"! (August)
Please nominate a film for August's "Fedi Film Club"!
This is the "Fringe Theater" ... for weird, niche films, unknown classics and pioneering statements. If you've got more "popcorn" or popular films in mind, you should check out the "Popcorn Theater" post.
Anything that either you'd like to watch or would recommend to the community!
Please make sure it's more than roughly two years old so that it will (hopefully) be available somewhere.
And if possible, provide a quick description for why you'd like to watch or why you suggest it.
Haven't watched it in years but it's a classic everyone should watch, absolutely gut wrenching. Some of it was later used in a Metallica music video bringing it back to notoriety somewhat.
Have you seen Jackson's next film, Braindead! An over the top zombie comedy. I've only seen it once years ago, but I remember it being a lot of fun. In the US, it's known as* Dead Alive*. Also check which version you're watching, as its been cut in different ways in different countries.
For example, in the US the unrated cut is 97 minutes, and the R-rated version is only 85 minutes with many of the gore scenes removed. In the UK, it is the fully uncut 104 minute version.
So I have no idea if this is really fringe, I mean today it probably is, but I watched it with my friends in our "Classic Movies Night" film circle where we would once a month get together and watch one classic movie from before 2000, because like many we were no film nerds but we wanted to be able to talk about good older movies so we had to watch them :D. Anyway we had some rules that it needed at least a 7 on IMDB and it needed to be considered a classic by some standards. And this was one of those movies we saw. Probably one of the weirdest movies we watched :D
This is probably as pretentiously art house as you can get ... I've never seen it but always meant to. It's probably hard to get a hold of ... but I'm putting it here anyway
