My #kbin app is now pulling data from kbin.social!
Took all day but it's looking good and should scale for a beta test. Up next:
* Login page
* Comment page
* Post actions
Also, built in mind w support for #Lemmy instances too βοΈ
For now calling the app Kmoon ππ

Hoping to have a private beta test within a month or two. For now calling the app Kmoon (Kπ)
Which Android device are you looking at? I've always wondered how devs develop for Android since there's so many different kinds of devices that run Android with different capabilities. With iPhones, I'm (hopefully correctly) assuming that it's a little easier since there's only so many versions to support.
You should try using Android as your daily driver though. Some months ago I tried iOS and I hated it. Of course this is a personal opinion, but you should really try it. My current phone is the OPPO Reno8 Lite. It's cheap, fast and overall really good.
Wanted to add - Joey for Reddit was my go-to on Android when I left iOS/Apollo. Might be good inspiration, as well; I actually felt that Joey handled somethings much better than Apollo did.
Joey for Reddit is/was the ULTIMATE client if you desire customization of the experience.
Man...I spent days on those font size and elements to be show/hide on the cards/threads. But it was in the end MY PERFECT experience
Very much did not verify this so take with grain of salt, but I read that it was shorthand for a Polish gun. Magazines is then a bit of a double entendre.
A decade back I spent some years running another indie app and the best part was the community helping test and recommend features. It really elevates the quality of a product. Unlike what we're seeing with reddit....
Understandable. I've coded some chat/forum apps before as well as android app stuff. never anything popular though lol. hopefully things go well for you :)
Maybe a name like Aurora or Nova could work. Like it is still space / celestial themed but both symbolize βnewβ (aurora - new morning after nighttime, nova, explosion of light / pent up energy), and can work as a spiritual successor paying homage to Apollo. Great idea btw I just signed up.
Wouldn't recommend using "Aurora". It's already the main alternative to the official google play store, and it's getting hunted down by Google.You wouldn't this nice new app to get stuck into this unrelated mess.
Thatβs fair! I was giving examples but youβre right this and what another user mentioned about Nova make them imperfect choices. I like the idea of paying homage to Apollo somehow.
Signed up! I've been using a Firefox shortcut on my Android phone for the past couple of days, but an app would make things much easier and more accessible.
Have you gotten the API to work, or are you just scraping the site? I haven't been able to get the API to work, but I've messed around a bit with scraping to work on a desktop app
Uff yea, it was a bit of work, more so than building the app so far.
Iβm setting everything up so when the API goes live I can just swap and replace the unofficial API service Iβm hosting. but itβs good enough to help get the app fleshed out in the meantime :)
I'm not on ios, but still great to see people making apps for the fediverse. Also this is the first time I'm seeing a kbin thread from lemmy, so I guess kbin has federation working again!
federation has been working slightly and slowly these past few days. nothing speedy. not sure it's 100% back yet? but yes I'm on kbin.social and seeing your comment clearly :)
There's another new app that was started just 5 days ago that can be built for android, not sure if it's usable yet but it'll be good to keep an eye on: https://github.com/gkasdorf/memmy
I am definitely interested, but I have a question: if I entered the beta testing, what would be my responsibilities? I ask before I have never beta tested anything...
Like using an app but you can't hate on it if anything is broken lol. Instead you have to submit feedback/issues so they can be addressed. But also, could just be new ideas in the form of feature requests.
I'll prob setup a Discord and an issue tracker on github.
Thank you. Honestly I am very nervous about it, I am still unsure if I will subscribe. The problem is more about me being a tech noob than anything, I am really just a casual user who has learned how to Google tech/computer tutorials when needed (and even then, with mixed results lol) so I worry I would be a useless tester
