Nine children are among at least 14 Palestinians killed in strikes on al-Mawasi, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health
There was little shelter and barely any services in al-Mawasi when the Abu Hatab family arrived seeking sanctuary from the intensifying bombardment around their homes in Khan Yunis.
But al-Mawasi was the one place they had been told they would be safe. From early November Israel urged the civilian population of Gaza evacuate to the narrow, sandy coastal strip the size of Heathrow airport.
On Wednesday night, the bombardment followed them to the so-called safe zone, when shelling rained down on their flimsy tents as they slept.
"They dropped leaflets and told us to come here, that this was truly the one safe place," Bahaa Abu Hatab, one of the survivors said. "My brother took his children to protect them from the occupation's missiles, but here they were martyred anyway, in this 'safe' place, in the tent that my brother set up in this field."
At least 14 Palestinians, including nine children, were killed in strikes on al-Mawasi early on Thursday, according to the Hamas-run ministry of health in Gaza.
Judging by how the international community has dealt with genocides in general, I doubt anything serious will happen. Just the occasional contentious statements like Turkey and Armenians.
They were very active and loud on social media the days after Oct 7th. But, as the months went by and the current situation has exceeded every form of "self-defense" not a single gvmt soul has spoken up. Bare in mind, we're talking about people who portray themselves as human-rights supporters.
I used to raise my voice against far-rights and corrupt politicians. Now, I'm at the point where I just don't give a fuck about this country anymore, and their political outcome.
Only when you look at a tiny piece of the whole story in isolation can Israel try to justify their actions. Look at any time period of greater than 6-12 months and the picture is never any different than Apartheid and Nazi party propaganda. I cannot believe that the rest of the world, barring South Africa is making a serious challenge.
Isn't it already inhabitable? I am also afraid that a lot of people got their homes completely destroyed so there would be no shelter once all this ordeal finishes.
And in their post-war plan they pointed out that the US and EU need to rebuild what they destroyed.
I find this extremely outrageous, as they are refusing to take responsibility for their own actions and instead are suggesting that the international community needs to rebuild it.

This is why I don't understand why Hamas doesn't just release the hostages and surrender their leaders. It would be the best strategic move. If Israel continues to attack then they lose all pretence of fighting terrorism. If Israel stops then it saves Palestinian lives.
The next generation will be even worse than hamas. And they will be called terrorists too. And then the next generation of israelis will ask themselves how they became the way they are. Point at today just like we point at history while everyone plays ignorant.
And then the next generation of israelis will ask themselves how they became the way they are.
I think you're giving them WAY too much credit. Your comment made me think of all the Americans I've met who actually believe the United States is a benevolent peacekeeper who altruistically polices the world and anyone who protests US Imperialism is simply ungrateful and just looking for a handout.
The Zionists I've met make these people look clear-headed and rational.
What about all the deaths before they got any hostages? Before Hamas?
What about what is happening in the west bank where there is no Hamas? Hamas was created because of what Israel has done and keep on doing. Giving up won't change anything
Hamas never had a chance against IDF in a military clash. They try to erode international support for Israel instead, by dragging the giant into a long and dirty fight.
They also need to take care about their domestic support. In both cases, it is good for Hamas when IDF does cruel things.
So the strategic goal of continued fighting is to show everyone, abroad and at home, how evil Israel is, to stay in power.
The leaders of Hamas aren't in Gaza and they never have been, so they really don't care or have any intention of surrendering. Furthermore, Hamas wasn't the only one involved in the kidnappings. A dozen other unrelated groups also kidnapped people on October 7th and Hamas has no control or knowledge of the whereabouts of those individuals.
If you’ve been following it all, this is not even close to the first time this has happened. During this entire conflict there has been the poorest communication about where safe areas are, and when the refugees make it to that “safe place” more bombs are dropped in their heads. The Israeli state has it out for these people and they will not stop until they are all dead. The attack on Oct. 7th was nothing but a complete and total failure on the IDFs part and now they’re going to make damn sure this doesn’t happen again, even if they commit the same atrocities that led the Jewish people to this new home not a century later. Disgusting.
that would be a very bad strategic move from idf, so why would they do it
If you work out the answer to this question I think you will really understand what's going on here. Either a) The Times and many others are publishing total fabrications, b) Israel's goal is not what you think it is or c) the IDF has the goal you think they do but are woefully, embarrassingly incapable of strategizing
South Africa (a neutral third party) has submitted a very detailed accusation of genocide to the International Court of Justice. These news would be in line with that accusation. So I have no idea why you find this hard to believe.
Seriously? You're really trying hard to ignore everything about this. This isn't surprising at all, it's completely expected. It's also deeply fucked up, which is why your willful ignorance is so disturbing.
