Software engineer here who works on web services. Most production-critical things in our workplace aren't managed by GUI's, or command lines... but by code. There are usually some infrastructure-as-code tools involved, like Terraform, CDK or Pulumi.

GUI's are often reserved for quick fixes and trying out things on staging servers (derisively called "click-ops").

I've gone through a similar conclusion myself. I used to use daily notes, dataview, and all sorts of Obsidian plugins to manage my tasks.

I find that I generally like to keep my vault to primarily be a "long term storage" tool. I want to use search to find curated info, not littered with to-do notes that don't add value past it's due date.

I've since migrated my To-Do activities to TickTick, and moved my daily notes to a secondary vault.

Smart Launcher. It feels more polished than Nova Launcher, and has most of the features I'd expect from an alternate launcher.

I agree with this - I've been steadfast in working on a single monitor workflow. Not only is it more ergonomic (pressing keys is less effort than moving your head), I find that it helps with focus too. I find that having more than 2 (or 3) windows open only provides distractions and sensory overload for me.

Good observation! I tried to maximise rolls on common symbol bigrams (=> :) ({...})) and minimise single-finger bigrams. You're right that -= is kinda meh because it's an SFB but += and *= are kinda alright 😊

One downside though is Crostini takes a pretty big performance hit. I remember comparing Crostini (Linux in a VM) to Crouton (native) and it was night and day. I agree it's workable though it probably means you may need to pick out a Chromebook with sufficient specs.

As someone with a Hazel P7P, I approve! This is what I hoped the green would be like on the P7P.

My preferred way is to have one symbol layer with all the symbols. It prevents having to constantly doing shift/unshift or switching layers (I personally call this "shift dancing") 😀

Same! A lot of people feel restricted with 13" screens on laptops. Not with Sway for me, having a way to tile windows makes it so usable.

I really love Mastodon, but I'm seriously missing Twitter's search. It's nice to search terms and see how people are talking about (something specific). Mastodon only allows searching by hashtags.
