No ads, No tracking and Opensource
  • Navigate to the Releases tab. You'll find every app versions released by the dev. In the bottom of each version there is a Download section, click the file with .apk and install it manually on your phone

  • Youtube frontpage in 2023
  • if you're talking about alternative ui/ux, you could try Piped/Invidious instances. Usually I use piped.kavin.rocks or yewtu.be to visit youtube on desktop browser. It basically youtube without ads and other bloats, also privacy-friendly. Or as other stated, you could try NewPipe or Libretube on smartphone. Keep in mind that all of these alternatives wont provide you google login functionality. These apps only store your search history locally on your device. It takes a bit of time to get used to not get fed by recommendation algorithm and not doing any mindless scrolling

  • DeArrow extension for YouTube that makes thumbnails bearable
  • For people wondering, the extension is also capable of changing clickbait title into a more descriptive one. You could also have a button toggle on each video to see the original title and thumbnail vs the changed one

  • If you value privacy, ditch Chrome and switch to Firefox now
  • The price to pay for convenience is too steep for most people to migrate. Also if you just an average user, most of the time you will not get instant gratification for being more privacy-aware. The more you try to be more aware the more you realize that to achieve a certain level of privacy is really a pain in the ass.

  • Are there any Reddit refugees spending more time on Lemmy than Reddit?
  • Using lemmy most of the time since the blackout. Kinda hard not to feel guilty now when I scrolled aimlessly on reddit. Now I only go there to find specific things. But ngl really miss having moment of discovery when I stumbled upon something while I browse reddit, since the amount of content here is limited.

  • First active day on the fediverse after 11 years on Reddit, and liking it here!
  • I'm just a typical lurker on reddit, and depend so much of its niche sub for particular topic. Ngl i cant completely ditch reddit like most of redittor refugees here seems to be, but i think i could slowly convert my aimless scrolling time on reddit here
