    I don't remember the last time I used one of these razors. It's an interesting combo of mild blades in a semi-aggressive disposable package.

    Varen was, of course, amazing. Clubman made it into my dopp bag since it doesn't last long, and shouldn't bother any co-workers.

    • Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
    • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
    • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (6)
    • Lather: Arko - Soap
    • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Musk - After Shave Cologne
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm

    An evening report time for work means I need to shave, since I haven't shaved since last night.

    I've been shaving at night and posting in the next day's thread, so today's thread gets double the action.

    Will I transition back to morning shaves? Likely just afternoon for a bit due to work schedules, then back to evening until things at home calm down.

    So, there.

    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm

    Pretty dang great. The only downside to shaving at night is I feel like I need to use aftershave that won't bother the lady in bed next to me. Luckily Hamami is on the good list. In fact, it's the only scent I have that she has shown any positivity towards.

    Very nice night shave. These warm classics work really well right before bedtime.

  • What occupation requires the most education/training only to be very low paid?
  • This has changed quite a lot. Starting pay at regional airlines varies, but it is close to $100,000/year now.

    This all happened right after the pandemic. Airlines did a lot of early retirements because nobody knew how long the industry would be in the dumps. As it turns out, there was a ton of pent up travel demand, so not only did airlines have to attract people to replace the retired pilots, but also for growth.

    You're right, though. It used to be closer to $20,000/year back in 2005, and only went up slightly over the 15 year period leading up to the pandemic.

    This may surprise some people, but this cheap Maggard Synth is my most used brush. It's very similar to the L'Occitane Plisson, but the Plisson is softer feeling and there are zero prickly bits. It's also smaller.

    Today it dawned on me that much like a boar knot, this Maggard Synth might have upside-down hairs which feel prickly. I managed to find 8 hairs that were easily removed (out of how many thousands of hairs? Not bad) and now there's not a prick in sight (aside from the handler).

  • What do you think of Richard Stallman?
  • I've watched one YouTube video of a talk he did and thought he was an odd duck with a lot of good ideas.

    What stuck with me the most was "use free software, and be ready for it to lack convenience".

    I'm sorry if struggling (if that's the right word) with that right now, because I'm interested in switching to OsmAnd instead of Google maps for navigation, but there's no traffic or road closure info. There's also no Android Auto option, as far as I'm aware.

  • New Mountain Bike - Specialized Stumpjumper EVO Comp Alloy

    After wanting a modern mountain bike for the past 5 years, I finally went and got one. It's a lot of fun.

    This is replacing a ~2006 Schwinn Mesa that I never ride anymore, because the trails are too rough for it where I live.

    !

    The dropper post is compressed if you're wondering why it looks like the seat is too low 😊

    New Scent Alert 🚨: Chiseled Face - Apple of Aetherwood

    From the artisan:

    ``` Apple of Aetherwood
    This is our first 100% original scent in way too long. It starts with an opening of apples and bergamot, with hints of sage, ginger, juniper berries, and geranium, with a base of amber, tonka beans, cedar, vetiver, and frankincense.
    While this may sound rather heavy, it's a rich, but still summery scent that is well grounded, but no so heavy and sweet that it would be overwhelming on a hot day.
    Coming later this month! ```
    Anyone planning on giving it a try?
    The Lather Games theme (from the other website) is:
    ``` Information Overload

    "Product marketing must list at least 10 scent notes. Note: remember that notes are scent descriptors used for marketing - not actual ingredient lists. Caveat: fragrance dupes will count the number of notes listed in the dupe's marketing description - not the original product's description." ```

    Some items from Barrister & Mann

    Roam Two is a great scent that is not OG Roam, but still great. It wasn't on sale.

    Promises - marketed for winter, an interesting scent that's absolutely worth the $5 I paid for it.

    Cootie Killer 2.0 hand soaps - I got 6 of them for $2.50 each. I've never smelled Le Grand Chypre before so buying 3 bottles was a small risk, but it was worth it. It smells like a lemon-lime type of soft drink. Fougere Classique is so stanky and awesome, but I might be the only one in the house to use it.

    ``` Wildcard Wednesday
    "Product can be any singular product you want to use - it doesn't even have to be soap. But here's the catch: any subsequent shave by other LG participants on the same day with the same product will be disqualified; only the earliest submitted shave will earn points for being on-theme. Note: For the purposes of counting brands for the Soap Brands bonus point, whatever you use here will be counted as whatever brand it is. Palmolive dish soap? Palmolive. Skippy peanut butter? Skippy. Barrister and Mann Cootie Killer? Barrister and Mann. Home-made soap? Assume it's branded however you would usually brand it if you made something. Two soaps superlathered together? Whoops, that's a disqualification." ```
    ``` Fougère Friday

    "Product scent must demonstrably be a fougère (one of the most prevalent fragrance families in men's fashion). It should be marketed as a fougère or classified as one on a reputable site. Note: The mere presence of lavender, coumarin, and oakmoss in a product does not make it a fougère (nor does their absence necessarily rule the category out)! Ask an expert ahead of time if in doubt. Caveat: WK Fern Concerto is not eligible for this theme because of reasons. Just ignore that one." ```
