EU passes law to blanket highways with fast EV chargers by 2025
  • Yeah, right now, EV driving is 100% feasible on every route I have ever taken - but it takes a bit of effort and planning over long distance & unknown routes. So, fingers crossed the EV charging network will grow as promised.

I love my EV, wouldn't go back to ICE ever - but I'm not sure that I would recommend my 70+ y/o parents an EV.
Thanks to apps like ABRP or, my app of choice, EVMap (+goggle maps for the navigation) it is easy to see the status (empty, full, defect) of a station way ahead - but if your expectation is just to drive like you did with an ICE, just go and if the car is empty start to look for a random fuel station - you might be annoyed pretty fast. Or you drive a Tesla, they do this pretty well without extra apps.

  • At least here in my region, most charging parks have somewhat between 10 and 40 chargers. Small stations 4 or 5.
I never had any issue finding an empty slot - the trick is to plan ahead a tiny bit and to have enough power left to drive to the next charger, worst case.

Also, chargers post their status online, so my car knows ahead if there is a free slot - and can change the route accordingly.

  • Musk says a 50% drop in ad revenue for Twitter is causing negative cash flow
  • Get your tin foil hats ready!

For many people, social media was a valuable tool during the last US election cycle for many people to get information that differ from fox and co.
Now, right before the whole circus starts up again, Musk and spez are making "bad" decisions with their platform, to drive people away from those to other products like facebook, threads, … Stuff that is easier to "manage" in terms of what people get to see - and let's face is, the people that end up here are a vast minority.
And don't get me started about stuff like the Arab spring, where twitter was very important to communicate.

I'm not saying this is 100% happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if Musk and co. are simply paid by certain people to fuck up social media, so we go back to a time when information and communication is easier to control.

Now put your tinfoil hats away, they are a serious heat risk in today weather!

  • I haven't been on Reddit since the 11th... Anyone else?
  • Been there to delete my stuff - and to set up an RSS feed for the couple of subreddits that don't have a valid alternative.

Fun thing is... about half of the RSS feeds i set up, i kicked out after 2 days, realizing how much pointless fluff it all was.

  • What will you do if reddit undoes API changes?
  • At this point, I'd be more likely to use facebook or geocities. Or start talking with strangers on a train. Sure, I miss some of my niche communities that didn't make the jump to kbinlemmy - but not enough to go back on my principles.
If a Google search spins out Reddit as a source for a solution, fine. Not making my life harder than I need to. But hanging out, generating data and content? Nope. Done.

  • AI music is here
  • I don't think this site is interesting because of the creativity. It is - as you said - not there. But the voice models are next level compared to what we have heard before.

  • AI music is here
  • That's already a reality. I work in post-production, and tools like https://soundful.com/ are starting to replace "classical" stock libraries with their vast but limited content. We have already seen first clients switch to AI voice over instead of voice actors, too.
