Tesla’s value drops $60bn after investors fail to hail self-driving ‘Cybercab’
  • A two seater with lambo doors that look like they’ll immediately get sheared off by a passing truck that can’t see them. A laughable delivery timeline. And the “concept” bus looks like a Dustbuster that’ll get stuck in a pothole or on top of a speed bump with its current ground clearance. It’s almost like he’s deliberately trying to tank the stock making all this impractical shit.

  • There's always something to talk about
  • One thing I rarely see pointed out is the generations that made 8 and 16-bit a huge success were aging out, or heading to college and/or the workforce. The casuals I knew stopped buying systems after the SNES and Genesis.

  • Anon recommends a cast iron pan
  • I’ve had one for roughly 15 years and use it almost every day. I most often use it as a baking pan or for grilling things. Not much sticks to it and what does is easily scrubbed off. I don’t season it in any meticulous way, just put a coat of cooking oil on and toss it in the oven every few months. I don’t cook acidic things in it - that is the rare time I use the stainless. I definitely understand why some don’t like the weight but I’m used to it.

  • Amazon tech workers leaving for other jobs in response to return to office mandate
  • Yeah this attrition is expected by Amazon. IBM and others did this earlier. If enough people choose to RTO they will do “real” layoffs and get a pat on the back in the news for not letting as many people go as they would have had to before. Optics I guess. IIRC this is the second round for Amazon.

Some are saying companies are doing this to keep their property values up but I think that’s only one facet. What I don’t see being called out often is companies doing this are hiring replacements overseas in tax havens and/or where they can pay less for talent. Real kicker is, those hires wind up being remote anyway to the anchor offices.

  • What’s the worst date you’ve ever had, and why was it so awful?
  • I should’ve had my friend pick me up but this was the time before cell phones were ubiquitous. She had sort of cooled off near the end and had given me a mix tape. Thought maybe it was just bad timing. Wasn’t expecting her to go ballistic. Food was good though.

  • What’s the worst date you’ve ever had, and why was it so awful?
  • I mean, vegan substitutions for things like chicken I suppose. And yeah, I was completely bewildered the entire time. Even before this she was always semi-hostile in conversations but she always hit me up. It was bizarre.

  • What’s the worst date you’ve ever had, and why was it so awful?
  • I said I had never eaten vegan food. She asked if I’d like to try it at her favorite restaurant. She then made a huge deal about me being “only” vegetarian as we ate. Stunned as she went on and on about what a terrible, ignorant person I was, I noticed there was something odd about her front teeth, like they were stained. I didn’t think much of it and tried not to stare. She also kept insisting repeatedly that it wasn’t a date. Ok, that’s fine, I said which only seemed to make her angrier.

We get in the car, and I’m relieved it’s almost over. She looks in the rear view, and starts freaking out that I hadn’t told her she had lipstick on her teeth the entire time. I tried to explain I didn’t know what it was and didn’t want her to be self-conscious. Awkward silence as she drove me home. Next day I noticed she had blocked me on everything. Good riddance I guess.

  • Removing Windows. Choosing a new daily driver for a gaming PC
  • Jokes aside, you can do different stage installs where you don’t have to compile the whole OS. However I feel like the quality has dropped during the past few years and it requires too much tinkering. Back when everything was on spinning rust, the performance difference was very noticeable though.

  • Hollywood can’t ditch its Teslas fast enough: “They’re destroying their leases and walking away”
  • Also what he did to the Tesla founders. And the PayPal disaster. Etc. Everyone ignored it, just gave him. Pass if they didn’t. I remember pointing out the cracks showing to his fanboys and they brushed it aside only because he helped take Tesla out of a tailspin and had started SpaceX. The pedo accusations and bigoted ranting from him finally made them (most of them) stop dick-riding or go quiet.

  • Hollywood can’t ditch its Teslas fast enough: “They’re destroying their leases and walking away”
  • The board recommended that shareholders vote to give him his 50 something billion compensation package and move the incorporation to Texas. Shareholders seemed divided on the package award due to his erratic behavior, that there isn’t a dedicated captain of the Tesla ship (among other things such as shareholder governance) - but he got the package.

Hopefully they’re taking a harder look after sales took a massive hit, the Cyberturd launch was a flop and vehicles are filling lots unsold. I’m not holding my breath though.

  • Nightingale's Realms Rebuilt update arrives tomorrow and aims to revive the game with a handcrafted campaign
  • I was bummed when I saw it launched in a crappy state. I thought it looked really neat as well. From recent reviews it seems they have fixed a ton of stuff and are rapidly working on other things so I copped it. Hopefully I can finally play it this weekend.

  • Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling
  • I can’t stand the narrow FOV in first person games on console anymore (it gives me motion sickness) and this upgrade doesn’t seem to be enough to fix that. I don’t understand how Sony can be so tone deaf with nearly every decision. But I’m not surprised anymore. They just raised the price of the controllers too and the joysticks get stick drift after a while and the battery still isn’t replaceable.

  • People seem to really dislike Destiny 2. Why haven't they ended it yet?
  • This happens at the end of every expansion. When The Final Shape campaign dropped people were raving about it only a few months ago. Complaining escalates as the story wraps up and people run out of stuff to do. They also recently revealed that D3 is DOA and content creators have been pushing a doom and gloom narrative for the past few weeks as well. Bungle also just did more layoffs which tarnishes things even further.

If you treat it like your only game - you’re probably gonna have a bad time. Bungie wants it to be an MMO but once the story bits are complete it does get dull unless you’re a hardcore grinder. The new player experience is also hot dog shit so it’s almost impossible to get your friends involved. This is the tip of the iceberg though.

  • A bit of sadness
  • if you wanna feel special go to a higher end restaurant where they don’t “auction” food. But even they use food runners. This actually lets the waiter give you more personal time ya dummy.

  • Best fish rule
  • There was one with a deformed tail at work. Poor guy could barely swim. Other fish picked on him. I’d make sure to drop food so he wouldn’t have to swim as far. He outlived all the other fish.

  • IBM CEO: We Listen to What Israel and Saudi Arabia Consider “Correct Behavior”
  • Arvind regularly makes it clear in meetings that he doesn’t give a flying flip what the employees think or feel and that he knows best. So this is not shocking. He’s made similar bootlicker comments before. I’m sort of surprised more of his terrible takes aren’t made public.
