GrapheneOS now officially supports Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL | GrapheneOS is a private, secure mobile operating system with Android app compatibility, developed as a non-profit open source project
  • The mental gymnastics in this one lol

usually used or refurbished devices are from ppl who would have bought it anyway (be it for their private or business use) and decided to buy new/different phones (for whatever reason).
I'm not talking about resellers who buy new devices and just, well, resell them. But about pre-used ones.

tl;dr: your money does not go to Google and the ppl you get it from would have purchased it anyway. The device just ends up in your hands instead of the land fill or being recycled

  • Switched to GrapheneOS today
  • Maybe CalyxOS would be a better fit then?

  • Eternity v0.2.0 is here!
  • I'm so glad the project isn't stale, thank you devs! I have been using Voyager the last few months but nothing is quite on the lvl of Eternity

(and tbh Voyager feels too iOS-y for me)

  • Does GNU Taler provide all the privacy benefits of crypto without any drawbacks?
  • seems like a good middle ground tbh. No cryptocurrency will ever reach the adoption of fiat. This could make online transactions that would otherwise be made over your creditcard, bank or insert fintech like Paypal quite a bit better

And I'd rather have this than a "digital Euro" or "digital Yuan"

  • Firefox has a lot of issues, but maybe we don't have any other option.
  • Librewolf is also available as a Flatpak

  • Help me pick one of the habit trackers available through F-Droid?
  • before I set up and try out 5 different apps, I thought that I'd get some opinions first

  • Help me pick one of the habit trackers available through F-Droid?

I am having some trouble in picking one of the habit trackers available on F-Droid/Izzy-on-droid. Which one would you recommend or maybe you know another good free/libre one (from other repos or sources in general)?

The ones in my scope thus far are:

TimePlanner has also caught my eye but it seems to be quite a bit more than a simple habit tracker

GrapheneOS Officially Supports The Accrescent App Store
  • What's the difference between Accrescent and Obtainium?

  • 1 Billion Dollars for Open Source Maintainers | Tobie Langel @ OpenUK 15 feb 2024
  • Those are such "mask off" moments imo

The best being "want documentation? join our discord", which makes me absolutely livid.

Using discord as a wannabe forum, wiki and matrix chat replacement rly goes to show that for the core dev(s), "open source" just means a development model

  • 1 Billion Dollars for Open Source Maintainers | Tobie Langel @ OpenUK 15 feb 2024
  • hosted exclusively on youtube, make that make sense

It makes perfect sense, since it's open source and not free/libre we are talking about. Open source doesn't care about the philosophy or political movement behind free software. It's an opportunistic appeal to corporations, advertising "open source" as just a more efficient development model

  • How happy are you with your current distro?
  • It has no large community nor an organization behind it.
Leading to a lot of trouble for me personally, it's the 2nd month now (after multiple updates) that my Gnome wayland desktop hasn't been working properly at all (like xwayland programmes displaying as a blank transparency, me not being able to start certain ones) and switching to X11 works but it's buggy af and sometimes freezes for a few second

I suspect that it has been a problem with the nvidia driver after having updated it and I have never had those problems before

Don't get me wrong Glorious Eggroll is doing good work but qa (due to size) leaves smth do be desired

  • How happy are you with your current distro?
  • I regret ever having switched to the amateur distro that is Nobara bc I was too lazy to set up Feodra a 2nd time after the Grub fiasco Arch (and thus my daily driver back then EndeavourOS) had lol

Will switch the second OpenSuSe Slowroll becomes stable

  • Linux really has come a long way
  • iirc with OpenSuse or Fedora, Secureboot works quite easily too

  • Google is a tech giant, which abuses peoples privacy with every click

Their phones enable users to (at least partially) escape that bs

that's what I found to be ironic

it's in German, but you can probably run it through Firefox local translate

  • I literally mentioned Calyx and Divest OS as alternatives which support non-google devices

also how is buying a used Pixel and degoogling it to the max with GrapheneOS (with reasonable compromises like optional sandboxed GMS) helping Google?
Didn't know that cutting their mal-/spyware out, and trying to avoid them and their services wherever possible actually helped them, silly me 🤷‍♀️
(I assume this to be the standard way for most ppl and plan on doing that as well once my current Huawei phone breaks)

please learn to read before insulting other ppl with your less-than-a-day-old account lol

  • From their FAQ it's great and covers a lot of questions better than I ever could):

What is AdNauseam's performance like? Will it speed up or slow down my browsing? AdNauseam is significantly faster (and safer) than using either of the two most popular blockers, Adblock or Adblock Plus, and nearly twice as fast as using no blocker at all. Metrics with more browsers and adblockers on the way...

  • It is ironic, but that's the best you can get in terms of security on Android, which is why GrapheneOS supports nothing else
