How much of an impact is the protest really having on Reddit?
  • Yeah , like every time Facebook was in a massive scandal - they'll still have a billion users and unlimited money to make problems go away - but is it a nice place to be? 🥶🥶

  • Beehaw - I've made a user-script that adds the home-instance name after people's username in the comments

Puritanism took over online fandom — and then came for the rest of the internet
  • fun fact, google-ai couldn't fit the article in its input text-box, and then said "im a language model and dont have the capacity to help with that" 🥶🥶 goog doesn't know what a text-input is

  • Puritanism took over online fandom — and then came for the rest of the internet
  • AI-summary:

The internet has become increasingly puritanical, with outspoken anti-sex advocates on social media criticizing and labeling various forms of sexual content as immoral. This trend has been particularly prominent in online fandom communities, where discussions about sexual content in media have given rise to a movement known as "anti-fandom." The passage of the FOSTA-SESTA bill in 2018, which cracked down on online adult content, has further fueled this puritanical shift. Fandom, once a space for passionate celebration and creative expression, has become a battleground for purity culture, with individuals labeling certain ships and sexualized content as harmful and even equating fictional harm with real-world harm. This puritanical mindset has extended beyond fandom communities, affecting broader online discourse and leading to the censorship of sexual minorities and sex-positive content. The weaponization of social justice language, the rise of "call-out culture," and the moral panic surrounding sex have all contributed to this puritanical trend, making it increasingly difficult to have open and healthy discussions about sex.

  • why I ended up leaving Reddit today
  • Jokes and debates ey? Sounds like Facebook 😵😵

  • I have a confession to make... I code in Comic Sans
  • This is cute~! I hated comic-sans when seeing it on lots of tacky corporate and school signs etc. but recently I ironically and then unironically fell in love with its whacky-ness, bold-ness and readability, (I use a Samsung phone, and used PT Mono on the S9, but then future phones blocked custom fonts, so I used one hack-ey Comic-Sans version since my mono ones are so underground no one developed a phone hack - now any font is possible again so I'm using the one below~ )

A few years ago my fav. font became PT Mono, from Google Fonts - cyrilic compatible, it has these angular edges, and swoopy circle curves, so cute <3

THEN there was this font printed on 2011 Pentax Q cameras and lenses that I loved, and couldn't find the original, but there was something very similar, STALKER1 and related similar fonts

    PT MONO

    STALKER1

  • What are peoples thoughts on games requiring always online? How does it affect your enjoyment of those games?
  • I like Xbox for a lot of things, but travelling to the country side with an xbox that doesn't work because of a stable internet - even if all the games are downloaded and not online multiplayer? - dum

  • Baked Schtrudel unt Zinamon mit Black Plum ~

My older sister had a wild life. I don't envy her, I wouldn't have been able to survive; but thinking of her always makes me think of the Strudel we ate growing up in Salzburg.

Alas, she is with us no longer, but she killed many men in her early twenties. Which is exactly what this dish will do - it'll kill; at your next party or Sunday supper ~!

Murderers from the future were trying to kill dear A. but by God's grace, the first of them was an idiot and she stole his device. She hired a nanny to stand in her place during the usual hours she'd be alone and vulnerable, and would be able to document her poor child's murders, and then go back herself to intercept the killers, no matter how well trained and prepared they were. Well, now onto the recipé ~

  • On Politics and Forking
  • "explicitly a safe space for minorities" - when discussing certain groups of people not being safe - it is automatically focusing on a small group and not the general public - focus is very often put on not-the-general-public - 'the general public' is not in any danger ever (unless you're talking about global nuclear war)

  • Redditors, how do you like Lemmy?
  • Yes - same for me, I love the reddit format compared to twitter, but also I just had bad luck with mastodon being really slow for me, but if all the things are self hosted - it'll be inconsistent depending on the instance and load ~

  • Why I am here
  • Hello !! Glad and thankful that you're here too ! 💕✨

There were so many turns to this journey ~ so beehaw spawned from a Bible scholar community? Wild ~~

I grew up in the Seventh-day Adventist church, which is kind of a closed community like Mormonism , but more biblically like the Baptist church , also folowing kosher and Jewish traditions and a hint of doomsday conspiracy theories~ but after all of that I feel they are very obsessed with scholarship - every week ½ of the Sabbath is the sermon/service, and thres a "Sabbath-School" where everyone in the world follows a Bible study guide following either a topic all through the bible or one character / book of the bible ~ very uni-vibes but for church ~ (also there's a prophet ~ )

Alas I have no faith as of 2012 .. 😵🫨

    How's the censorship around here?
  • That would be safest , not a sub-community but start an instance hosted in Switzerland or Russia or something , then no one can complain (maybe mark your site to be blocked in a country or removed from Google.com

  • How's the censorship around here?
  • It's scary , cos lemy.ml doesn't want the whole website deleted because Disney and Nintendo find one of their files here ,,

    community sub-icons?

    May be stupid , and I know there is the @beehaw after the community name;

But I think it'd be cool if at a glance you know on /all which posts were from here with a little badge - I used to look out for black and white icons - but other communities also use that style

    Ctrl + Enter for Comment_Subit?

I dunno if this is more a Lemmy thing, but is it possible to add Ctrl + Enter to submit a comment? (same functionality as most modern websites, reddit, fb, etc.)

I tried to make it myself using a user-script, but couldn't get it working x__x

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/467688-beehaw-org-ctrl-enter-to-submit-comment/versions version history, I got Ctrl+Enter working, but 'current-comment's-form' - I can't rely on using the element ID, and nothing I tried was working..

(edit, ooh, you can edit titles of posts, cool~)
