My wife and I just came home from vacation, and after 4½ years of avoiding it, we have COVID.
  • Oh wow - I got lucky then. It was a week of everything tasting like metal at first. It's still there now but like "at the edges" of the tongue if that makes any sense. There's a patch in the middle that's able to pick out ingredients / attributes well enough to enjoy some things again.

Thank you for sharing - and good luck to you too.

  • Same here - was real careful for years and got it for the first time a few weeks ago. Stuff still doesn't taste right.

  • Checking in a year later. The board game is excellent 🤘

  • 'Trans People's Issues Alienate the Working Class,' Says Democrat Who's Never Met Either
  • Sad but unsurprising to see a bona fide member of the working class downvoted for pointing out that some of the popular rhetoric is pointlessly divisive and does nothing to help the working class.

Many of todays activists seem to be doing anything but actually helping the various communities they are oh so eager to bully people on behalf of.

  • Remember: GNU/Linux and other UNIX systems can make files that are case-sensitive, Windows can't make files that are case-sensitive
  • I absolutely fail to see the utility of having a user called Bob and bob, or a dir called Downloads and downloads. Capitalisation makes sense in code - at a glance I can know I'm looking at a Class or a var, but for system administration it has only ever wasted time, and not once made anything easier.

  • Microsoft’s controversial Windows Recall feature is coming back in October
  • I can see the use case, and that some people might find this useful (not to mention many agencies and ad companies). But enough was enough, for me at least. Linux Mint rocks. Can't see myself going back to Windows.

  • Live (Animated) wallpapers programs for linux
  • After seeing this thread, and the Linux wallpaper engine repo, I think I'm gonna boot into Windows and record wallpapers I like as videos, then set them as backgrounds in linux. I'm gonna be on x11 until cinnamon updates to waylan

  • What games popularized certain mechanics?
  • I wonder what the source of the RTS conventions was. Ctrl num for making groups. Double press to centre on group. X for scattering units. A to stop them. Pretty sure these predate C&C but the only one before that I can think of is dune.

  • Not exactly advanced, but I missed the super+P shortcut when switching from desk and monitor to sofa and TV. Made a couple of one line shell scripts that call Xrandr then bound them to keyboard shortcuts.

He was part of giant bomb - video game podcast, videos and website. He became the "blinking white guy" meme.

Seems like a cool guy - super chill and constantly curious.

‘Jose Chung's From Outer Space‘ is not just a highlight from the sci-fi series, but a perfect follow-up to the Barry Sonnenfeld film.

The Only ‘Men In Black’ Sequel You Need is an Episode of ‘The X-Files’

We're going through this show again, for the first time for us since it was aired. And this episode (Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space') was a real stand out. Haven't laughed this hard in a long time.

    "stringers" shoe laces commercial?

We had this ad playing constantly in the 90s and for some reason I want to see it again. It was that special brand of terrible corporate "rap" of the time. The laces were colourful and curly I think.

Anyone remember this and have a link to the ad? Sorry for vague childhood memory.
