  • I was thinking about going this route, pass got me interested in the Proton ecosystem, was thinking about getting the mail plus subscription as well. But it looks like that's a no go :(

  • Can we have some clarification on what "Usage Data" the app collects and shares with advertisers?
  • Too soon, being taken advantage of?

The developer has a track record, we already know the product being delivered and the terms.

The fan base are the people who were already using Sync for Reddit.

The people who like me had used Sync for Reddit since 2017. Sync always had ads and the inherent tracking, I paid 2.69€ in Jan 2017 to remove ads and support the development.

(When In 2022 the developer added another support level where you had access to early betas, I paid again 4.99€, because I'm an early adopter and wanted to support again because I never went the subscription route)

I have also setup a monthly donation towards my Lemmy instance.

It might feel too soon because Ljdawson moves fast.

  • Just Went Live!
  • I am using it right now. Moments ago I was reading a post on a DnD community and had to do a double take, it felt like I was on Reddit, but it was just a bout of nostalgia after years of using Sync for Reddit.

The familiarity, the gorgeous material UI, but now with 100% less spez!!

Thank you for bringing Sync to Lemmy Ljdawson!!

  • Unhappy with Lemmy
  • They? Spez did xD

It just happened that quite a few redditors found that the experience using Lemmy was already good enough and started suggesting it.

    And here we are

Btw considering that Lemmy is open source, yes, they do need free beta testing. They even need more contributors to handle the development and bug fixing.

  • I'll start, here is my level 50 Necromancer, currently playing through the campaign, starting act 4 now.

    Closeup:

Haven't transmogrified anything yet, I think it looks cool, but there are some nice headgear designs, with human or Khazra skull motifs.

    Share screenshots of your characters!

What gear are you wearing? Do you bother to transmog or do you just wear your gear as you loot it? Have you bought anything form the shop?

How to subscribe to communities from other instances that wont load?
  • Yes, putting the [email protected] into the search bar prompts our instance server to create the connection and start federating that community.

When I searched for [email protected], only your post came up, but the spinning circle on the search button didn't stop.

Gave it about 30 seconds and searched again, the server now retuned the community as well.

This comment from Ada explains it as well: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/196367

  • The Reddit to Lemmy "exodus" is a good oportunity for companies to host their communities

Hear me out… I’ve lurked on reddit for 14 years.

At the beginning, many companies were aware of unofficial communities about their products, but didn’t touch reddit with a ten foot pole, but as reddit became more mainstream and some companies started monitoring unofficial reddit communities to provide customer support and interact with the community, some even embraced reddit and declared the subreddits “official”.

I imagine that some of the early reluctance derived from them having to rely on reddit to host their community. (and now we see how much reddit is trustworthy, also at the time reddit was on the “news” only for the worst reasons)

But now they have the chance, given that lemmy and other reddit alternatives have captured some internet buzz, to adhere to Lemmy and spin their own instances and host their communities.

This would help bring more instances into the fediverse by companies who can bill it to their marketing and community budgets.

    I would love to see:

    • lemmy.riotgames.com/c/lol
    • lemmy.blizzard.com/c/wow
    • etc…

We have looped around and we are back to vBulleting and phpBB times. But this time it’s federated.

Diablo IV has been disappointing so far
  • I'm liking the game so far. I'm a level 49 necromancer, currently going through act 3.

The field of view looks diferent, but I'm enjoing the enhanced verticality of the maps. I was amazed when going down a moutain for the first time during the beta, and now in act 3 the dunes look so cool due to that!

Regarding the stats, I had to read up about their effects because I was also finding somethings odd, this is a good explainer: https://gamerant.com/diablo-4-stats-explained/ I would love if D4 implemented a system, lore adequate, similar to what death stranding has where there is an encyclopedia of game mechanics where everything is explained.

(Only now am I noticing, in the screenshots on that website, that they have popups when you mouse over the stats explaining things, never noticed them given that I am playing with the Xbox controller on my living room PC :o)

There are quite a few new systems ingame, its a diferent game from D3 wich was a diferente game from D2, for better and for worse.

I'm enjoying learning those new systems and playing within their restrictions.
