Is it possible to use Dolby Atmos AND Spatial Audio at the same time?
  • You mean my headphones? They're Sony WH-1000XM5.

    On second thought, they don't specifically have support for Atmos but I was under the impression that as long as the device playing the content natively supports it, it should be fine.

  • Is it possible to use Dolby Atmos AND Spatial Audio at the same time?
  • Spatial Audio settings:

    Dolby Atmos settings when Spatial Audio is off:

    Apple's implementation of Spatial Audio uses Dolby Atmos, so I was wondering if the same was possible on Android.

    But the question is, if I'm playing Dolby Atmos content, what should I use then? It'd make more sense to use the Dolby Atmos setting but that one doesn't have head tracking (that my headphones support).

    Edit: also this is not about converting a stereo stream; I'm playing native Atmos content.

  • Is it possible to use Dolby Atmos AND Spatial Audio at the same time?

    !

    I can't understand if it just means that for some reason the settings cannot be changed (refer to the screenshot) or if it's because Dolby Atmos is disabled when Spatial Audio is on. I could not find any information about this anywhere.

    Swap causing very slow boot (and systemd says the swap partition became active after 500k years)
  • I might actually end up disabling swap in the end. I wanted to update that apparently I “fixed” the problem (not sure if permanently) by turning off the pc, unplugging the PSU, and holding down the power button for 30 seconds. Normal reboots weren’t enough. I’ll take it for now.

    Swap causing very slow boot (and systemd says the swap partition became active after 500k years)

    I'm dualbooting Fedora Kinoite (ublue-nvidia image) with Windows 11 and I have a boot time of over 1 minute (only on the Fedora side).

    The output of systemd-analyze critical-chain is:

    graphical.target @16.435s └─sddm.service @16.435s └─plymouth-quit.service @16.315s +107ms └─systemd-user-sessions.service @16.299s +12ms └─remote-fs.target @16.298s └─remote-fs-pre.target @16.298s └─nfs-client.target @16.298s └─gssproxy.service @16.288s +9ms └─network.target @16.285s └─wpa_supplicant.service @16.281s +4ms └─basic.target @14.798s └─dbus-broker.service @14.774s +22ms └─dbus.socket @14.760s └─sysinit.target @14.757s └─systemd-resolved.service @14.696s +61ms └─systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service @14.584s +96ms └─local-fs.target @14.569s └─run-user-1000-doc.mount @23.123s └─run-user-1000.mount @22.463s └─swap.target @1.410s └─dev-disk-by\x2duuid-819f25f8\x2daf77\x2d4d7b\x2daaf7\x2dadb07819a7b1.swap @1.276s +35ms └─dev-disk-by\x2duuid-819f25f8\x2daf77\x2d4d7b\x2daaf7\x2dadb07819a7b1.device @584542y 2w 2d 20h 46.792s +1min 3.997s

    First of all, I would like to know what the hell is going on with that 584542 years active time lol

    Anyway, the x2dadb07819a7b1 UUID belongs to the swap partition.

  • Youtube reads our conversation?
  • Two things are at play here:

    1. Out of all the recommendations and ads, you only notice those who are actually relevant, so you’re biased.

    2. One would be surprised by how easy it is to predict interests and patterns based on very little information; there’s no need to spy all private conversations for that.

  • Gotta say that the very NON-tech savvy people I know had one of these reactions to the change:

    • they didn’t even notice;
    • they like it better now;
    • they don’t care at all as they never open it.
  • The Mac sure is starting to look like the iPhone
  • That’s almost impossible.

    They’re not gonna have a Windows situation with 2 settings apps, and they have no good reason to revert their changes, since it would be against the unification of the interface across iOS and macOS they’ve been pushing hard for years.

    Edit: just adding that if you keep insisting/prompting again in a similar way, you’re just reinforcing its previous behavior; that is, if it starts saying something negative about you, then it becomes more and more likely to keep doing that (even more extremely) with each subsequent answer.

    Bing Chat creates ELI5 about Trump's situation in a few seconds — Can it replace humans?

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/141575

    > Do you think this could replace/assist humans on ELI5-type communities? > > >Okay, I'll try to explain it to you like you're five. Donald Trump was the president of the United States for four years, from 2017 to 2021. He did many things that some people liked and some people didn't like. He also said and wrote many things that some people liked and some people didn't like. After he lost the election in 2020, he left the White House and went to live in his big house in Florida called Mar-a-Lago. There, he kept saying and writing things that some people liked and some people didn't like. > > >Some of the things he said and wrote were about secrets that only the president and a few other people are supposed to know. These secrets are called classified documents, and they are very important for keeping the country safe and making good decisions. The people who work for the government have rules about how to handle these secrets, and they are not allowed to share them with anyone who is not supposed to know them. If they do, they can get in big trouble. > > >Some people who work for the government thought that Trump was not following the rules about the secrets, and they started to investigate him. They looked at his phone, his computer, his papers, and his emails. They also talked to some of his friends and helpers who knew about the secrets. They found out that Trump had shared some of the secrets with people who were not supposed to know them, and that he had not protected them well enough. They also found out that one of his helpers, named Walt Nauta, had helped him do this. > > >The people who work for the government decided that Trump and Nauta had broken the law by mishandling the secrets, and they charged them with crimes. This means that they accused them of doing something wrong, and that they have to go to court to prove it. The court is a place where a judge and a jury listen to both sides of the story and decide who is telling the truth and who is lying. The judge is a person who knows a lot about the law and makes sure everyone follows the rules. The jury is a group of ordinary people who are chosen randomly to be fair. > > >Trump and Nauta had to go to court yesterday for the first time, where they met the judge and said that they were not guilty. This means that they denied doing anything wrong, and that they want to have a trial. A trial is when both sides present their evidence and arguments to the judge and the jury, who then decide if they are guilty or not guilty. If they are guilty, they can be punished by paying money or going to jail. If they are not guilty, they can go free. > > >Trump is the first former president ever to be charged with a federal crime. A federal crime is a crime that affects the whole country, not just one state or city. This makes this case very special and important, because it has never happened before. Many people are watching this case very closely, because they care about what Trump did or didn't do with the secrets. > > >Do you understand now? > > >Source: Conversation with Bing, 6/15/2023 > (1) Donald Trump. https://bing.com/search?q=trump+news. > (2) Trump announces raising over $6 million since federal indictment news. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/trump-announces-raising-over-6-million-since-federal-indictment-news/ar-AA1cyDVj. > (3) Trump raises $7 million for 2024 campaign since federal indictment. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-raises-7-million-2024-campaign-since-federal-indictment-2023-06-15/. > (4) They Are Trump’s Aides and Lawyers. Picture this, if you will: Aphantasia can be detected with an eye-opening look into our pupils.

    >The study, led by researchers from UNSW Sydney and published in eLife, found that the pupils of people with aphantasia did not respond when asked to imagine dark and light objects, while those without aphantasia did.

    Link to the actual research article referenced above here.

    Abstract

    > The pupillary light response is an important automatic physiological response which optimizes light reaching the retina. Recent work has shown that the pupil also adjusts in response to illusory brightness and a range of cognitive functions, however, it remains unclear what exactly drives these endogenous changes. Here, we show that the imagery pupillary light response correlates with objective measures of sensory imagery strength. Further, the trial-by-trial phenomenological vividness of visual imagery is tracked by the imagery pupillary light response. We also demonstrated that a group of individuals without visual imagery (aphantasia) do not show any significant evidence of an imagery pupillary light response, however they do show perceptual pupil light responses and pupil dilation with larger cognitive load. Our results provide evidence that the pupillary light response indexes the sensory strength of visual imagery. This work also provides the first physiological validation of aphantasia.
