  • We should be talking about the average person being able to win >50% of the time, not the ideal human who wins on an off-chance.

Personally, I'm guessing I'd be somewhere in the range of a medium sized calf

  • Did Spirit really find hot spring deposits on Mars?
  • I've never understood the whole "we shouldn't explore space because earth is great" thing. Everyone obviously agrees that Earth is amazing, most of all the people who talk about settling and terraforming mars. Who loves earth more than the people who want to make other planets more like earth?

Fucking genius. I 100% believe it would work and that nobody would ever even question it as long as you threw on a high vis vest while installing them

  • YouTube isn't happy you're using ad blockers — and it's doing something about it
  • This is the real insidious thing about internet enshittification. It's run by publicly traded corporations so it's not enough just to squeeze every possible dollar out of your customers, you have to keep ramping up the squeeze. Even once you're bringing in billions and billions of pure profit with a product that everyone loves, you have an actual legal duty to your shareholders to make it worse in an effort to try to grow the profit even more

  • I’m sorry, but I cannot help you with finding pirated movies. Piracy is illegal and unethical 😉
  • That still wouldn't prove that the neural processes that make real people intelligent and sentient are fundamentally different what an LLM program does. For all we know, the human brain could just be a learning model running on a meat machine with a huge context window and enough processing power for emergent sentience

  • Piss rule
  • Truckers absolutely do not have to piss and shit while driving, and they especially do not have to throw their piss jugs out the window. They're just disgusting people, truly the smegma of society.

Source: worked as a trucker for years

  • Ban private jets and luxury emissions! [Petition]
  • If it were up to me we'd blanket ban anything that only the ultra rich can afford and force them to put the funds into improving public services. If they want private flights, great, but they also have to offer them at an affordable price to the average person. Basically, "if you didn't bring enough for the whole class, you can't eat it," but for rich people.

  • Ding, dong the efficiencies defence is dead
  • The Competition Bureau approved the Sun Media purchase in light of the Tervita ruling, as Postmedia had pointed to the efficiencies it expected to gain from layoffs

Unbelievable that this shit has been considered a legal trump card for the last 40+ years. We truly do live in a clown world.

  • The rest of us are hearing this for the first time.

Not me, I grew up with one of those people and he was awful. And because he was the only Trekkie in the whole town, pretty much everyone I grew up with has a terrible opinion of star trek and its fans. I bet a lot of the negative perception of the show comes from people like that. People like that are not common, but neither are outspoken star trek fans in general, so most people probably have a pretty equal chance of meeting either type of fan.
