📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW)
  • If moderators/subreddits are going to migrate, they're already going to be aware about it and probably thinking about it.

I am a mod as well, I cannot see how someone politely asking if we are thinking about making a community on a diff platform can be perceived as pestering?

Think about it from this side: users can't see what messages the mods are getting. You're asking people to DM moderators - politely doesn't matter. What if 10 people see your message and act on it? Then you've got 10 people saying "Are you guys gonna migrate? Are you migrating? What do you think about migrating?"

It appears this is individual and not every mod will be annoyed and not every mod wont be annoyed.

Very true, but I really don't think unsolicited messages to subreddits asking them to migrate - for YOUR benefit - is a good idea. In any case, forget about migrating. Just create the communities you want to see here, on lemmy/kbin/wherever. You don't need to wait for moderators to do it.

  • GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!

Please don't do this. I'm a moderator of a sub (won't say which one). From a personal standpoint I'm happy to use both platforms. Vilify me if you will. But I do not want to see messages from users asking if we're going to migrate. That's pestering and it won't go well if that particular subreddit isn't into it.

  • YSK a free, lightweight alternative to Spotify
  • How long is this likely to stay online? It sounds like it's circumventing paid services (YouTube Music, specifically) - I can't see Google being too happy about people skipping out on paying for their service.

(I'm not saying this is a bad idea, I'm openly wondering about the longevity of the app and slightly nervous about the dev's wallet when it might come to a lawsuit. I don't know if that's a thing that would happen.)

  • Can someone explain to me how kbins reputation system works?
  • "Upvote" does nothing

Not exactly - it's technically a "favorite" button. Since I learned exactly what you typed out, I've been using it as a way to save posts I want to read later. However it is correct that it does nothing for reputation.

Maybe this is just affecting me, but has anyone found kBin kind of unresponsive after installing as a PWA on Android? Some stuff I've noticed since I first used the "install" option - and this has only been in the last couple days. For reference I'm using Firefox

    • Scrolling is sluggish
    • using the "back" gesture doesn't work - and because it's installed as an app I can't use the back/forward browser buttons
    • pressing buttons is not responsive (home, up/down votes)

I ended up uninstalling it and I'm just using it in a normal browser window. I'll probably try installing it again but wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

What is a good hobby/skill that most people should give a try, and why so?
  • (I normally use Reddit's /r/writingprompts but I'm trying to find an alternative here)

I have to do some searching but I like the looks of the community on Beehaw. I think there is one here but I haven't looked around very much (I was waffling between Lemmy and kBin, and have turned back to kBin because of the versatility).

  • Re: Apple + privacy

I believe most of their intentions about restricting 3rd parties from seeing your data is keeping it for themselves. IIRC Apple plans to (if they haven't already, I'm on the Android platform) release their own ad service using their own proprietary data.

  • Oh geez. So I was having fun driving listening to the 6-0 lead. Then the 4th inning happened.

I don't know who the Texas announcers are but after Vlad's misplay one of them called Vlad winning a gold glove last year a joke. 🙄

  • What's "OC"?
  • This is semantics...people use a convention of [original content] on reddit, whether it's an official implementation or not. It's like before Twitter got official retweets. I didn't realize there was a flair/badge for this on kbin until just now, but it feels like an extension of that manual function. In spirit, it exists on reddit.
