Steam Deck won't have yearly refreshes because it's "not really fair to your customers", says Valve
  • I don't think any console that did releases annually would be worth buying and I think you have a solid point.

That being said, it is slightly different insofar as console games are not implicitly available across generations. What I mean is PS4 games are playable on PS5 but WiiU aren't on Switch or what-have-you.

I think most people are crossing over PC/laptop updates with game consoles and the walls are being broken down a bit.

I think Steam doesn't want to muddy the waters with "Steam Verified" and everything just yet. They're eventually going to with an upcoming refresh of the system, but it's easier to get devs and consumers on the same page with Steam Deck verified and the software and such if they don't iterate every year.

What do I know though, I'm an idiot.

  • X's idiocy is doing wonders for Bluesky.
  • I also like the absurd amount of permissions it requires. Meta couldn't let their guard down for a moment.

To clarify, I mean Meta couldn't be a little less data hungry in order to take marketshare from Twitter. They instantly needed access to absolutely everything at the start.

  • Self-documenting Code
  • I can't recall the exact change but a coworker did something five years very intentionally. The comments, the commit and everything described what they did but not why.

I think it was with side effects: true and I fixed a certain way we bundled things and I believe that could have solved the issue but I don't know for sure :/

  • I deleted Twitter as soon as Space Karen took over.

However, my friends and so many people I follow on other platforms still link their Twitter profiles. For some there needs to be something solid to make a real and consistent migration. I was overly hopeful that Threads (yes, another evil) would have buried Twitter.

  • Regarding the rumor that Harris might go on Joe Rogan's podcast
  • I used to listen to it religiously. He had a few fucked up views but in a long form podcast it used to get washed out. Like his universal basic income views and then him platforming Stefan something ... (like an incel cult leader). In the latter case he thought it was better to bring someone on with opposing views and then see them get flushed out over time and in that case, you see it exposed.

I think what Joe didn't anticipate was that his desire to be a contrarian and find the viewpoints away from the mainstream, so much so, that it did him a disservice. He doesn't have the mental defenses up to put up with the propaganda he was inflicted upon. He became the 'Joe Rogan questions everything' guy to 'Joe Rogan believes anything' guy.

I had it when he became fully antivax and wishes he would just go away now.

  • Meta fires staff for buying toothpaste, not lunch
  • I think they sent a warning about it and if you continue you'd be reprimanded. That being said, I swear this must be more of their "cost-reduction". Like you said, it's within budget ... I can imagine finding replacement employees and hiring is more costly than this by far.

  • Gaming 2024
  • I'm not getting it but those gaming chairs look like racing car chairs. I didn't think those seats were particularly comfortable either because I thought they kept you in place when things you're zipping around?

  • Passwords have problems, but passkeys have more
  • Sounds similar to the SSL stuff, like for GitHub and stuff. I guess the preference in that case would be my password manager as it stores my password already.

Perhaps it's best I pay for Bitwarden premium now and use those hardware keys people are recommending.

    Also thanks!

  • Passwords have problems, but passkeys have more
  • Yeah I didn't understand passkeys. I'm like why is my browser asking to store them? What if I'm using another browser? Why is my password manager fighting with my browser on where to store this passkey?

    I felt so uneasy.

So I decided not to use passkeys for now until I understood what's going on.

The Man Who Killed Google Search

It's a story from April, I tried seeing if it was posted before, however it's the story about how the advertising and finance team beat the search team into submission by ousting the core person protecting it to pursue "growth" and "revenue" at all costs.
