Going from Stereo to...4.0?

I agree with the doctrine of not weakening the system, but an option should exist for people that understand the consequences, and still need a different use than the one envisioned by the developers. I'm not talking about root, there's more decisions that are made for you without your saying. For your safety. But still.

  • Wow thanks so much for this! I'll look them up this way.

  • Best way of playing Wipeout these days?
  • Thanks...RPCS3 seems a bit not too optimized for the Deck yet. Just found out yesterday it doesn't keep up as well as I'd like it to. Wipeout Pure on the PPSPP emulator though...seems to be a port with a few less maps to the PSP, and this one seems to make really good framerates (it indicates 60FPS...but seems a bit not too stable?), even at 10W capped power.

  • TUXEDO on ARM is coming
  • The good news are on RISCV. ARM has even more closed source bootloader and binary driver blobs than x86 architecture. It's supposed to be good power efficiency over Intel for a laptop, but not so sure about amd.

  • Yeah. They've been trying about every year since... I don't know, two decades? They DEFINITELY will keep at it. They never give up.

  • In my country you need to carry a few cards, such as ID and drivers license. So yeah, at least i need something to carry those.

  • Nextcloud or Syncthing - which one do you suggest?
  • For file handling Seafile has been pretty efficient for me. No multimedia though.

So...after watching latest Noclip video, I was having a bit of a Wipeout itch...I have a rather decent gaming computer, but I was wondering what would be the best way to play the wipeout series...was 2097 the best one? Is there a good way to get it running at decent resolution/effects these days?

    Thanks!

Proton Calendar to...Android calendar? Via caldav, perhaps?

Hi guys! So, I have Proton Mail, and this also gives me the Calendar. I love that I have a encrypted private calendar, but it bothers me that it doesn’t play well with any other app, as it’s not officially a “calendar” to Android. This bothers me, because I use GrapheneOS, with mostly no Google services, and I'd like my Gadgetbridge-connected smartwatch to be able to display calendar events, since they're not being shared with anyone else. But I can't, because Proton Calendar isn't really an Android Calendar. There’s a way in Proton to permanently share a link to your private calendar. In effect, it’s an up-to-date .ics file, that I believe needs to be checked/downloaded every time there’s an update. Is there a way to update this in Proton? Alternatively, I wouldn’t mind creating some caldav system that imported this, but not sure if there’s already any guide for it?

    Thanks so much!

    Going from Stereo to...4.0?

Hi guys! So for quite a bunch of years, my main home cinema setup has been a Pioneer amp VSX-823K, paired with a couple of Mission MX2 speakers...and a 55inch Sony TV. No subwoofer, no central channel either. Nothing too special, but since the room I watch from is rather small, it does the job pretty well. This is my home cinema/gaming station, and it's all hooked to a gaming PC.

So, I'm considering to add maybe a couple of tiny rear speakers to provide surround sound (ish? 4.0, I guess). Now the problem is, I literally have no space. I have an L-shaped Ikea sofa that takes one corner completely, and leaves not much space at all on the other. I was thinking maybe tiny satellites hanging from a pole that goes straight into the edge of the corner, behind the sofa's corner...So something small anyway, as they'd be rather close to the head/ears of the viewers (me/parner's/friends). I'm not sure what to look for...I'm looking for something small that can deliver decent sound quality without having to be too loud. What would be your advice?

    Thanks!

[SOLVED] Immich keeps restarting the backup

Hi guys! I'm having my first attempt at Immich (...and docker, since I'm at it). So I have successfully set it up (I think), and connected the phone and it started uploading. I have enabled foreground and background backup, and I have only chosen the camera album from my Pixel/GrapheneOS phone. Thing is, after a while (when the screen turns off for a while, even though the app is unrestricted in Android/GrapheneOS, or whenever changing apps...or whenever it feels like), the backup seems to start again from scratch, uploading again and again the first videos from the album (the latest ones, from a couple of days ago), and going its way until somewhere in December 2023...which is where at some point decides to go back and re-do May 2024. It's been doing this a bunch of times. I've seen mentioned a bunch of times that I should set client_max_body_size on nginx to something large like 5000MB. However in my case it's set to 0, which should read as unrestricted. It doesn't skip large videos of several hundreds megs, it does seem to go through the upload process...but then it keeps redoing them after a while.

Any idea what might be failing? Why does it keep restarting the backup? By the way, I took a screenshot of the backup a couple days ago, and both the backed up asset number and the remainder has kept the same since (total 2658, backup 179, remainder 2479). This is a couple of days now going through what I'd think is the same files over and over?

SOLVED: So it was about adding the client_max_body_size value to my nginx server. I thought I did, so I was ignoring this even though I saw it mentioned multiple times. Mine is set to value 0, not 50000M as suggested on other threads, but I thought it should work. But then again, it was in the wrong section, applying to a different service/container, not Immich. Adding it to Immich too (with 0, in my case, which should set it to "unlimited") worked immediately after restarting nginx service. Thanks everyone for all the follow ups and suggestions!

    Handbrake queue picks wrong file?

I am not sure if anyone's experiencing this. I'm using Handbrake from a flatpak. I am recoding a whole TV show's season. So, episodes from S01E01 to E15. In the Handbrake app and queue, it really picked the 15 of them. However, when I start to process the queue...It starts by encoding ep 15? At least S01E15 the file it starts creating first. But in the queue window, it claims to be procesing S01E01. (?!). And after finishing...The queue claims to be all successful and no errors, but I have only 14 new files, S01E01 was never recoded. Even though it claims it did it the first one.

EDIT: Sigh...Now that I'm inspecting the files that it did recode, it did it wrong. I was made to believe that if you set the settings of what you want on the first file of the batch (Video codec/quality, audio tracks xyz with passthrough/recode quality, subtitle tracks xyz), then Handbrake would apply these same settings to all the files in the queue when you pressed queue - add all. But clearly something went wrong because I ended with videos with two incorrect audio tracks (and I chose 4 audio tracks), and no subtitle tracks (when I chose to take all the available ones). From a quick check, it looks like all the source files have all the same audio and subtitle tracks on the same order...

Is there any issues I'm missing?

Lutris with Dying Light 2 - Exit code 768

So...Yeah. Fitgirl's repack seems to install correctly without crashes. But...I get exit code 768 almost instantly after starting it. I get to see for less than a fraction of a second the Dying Light launcher banner, which disappears immediately, and the runner stops with exit code 768 and no visible errors. What can I do? AMD 7700 32GB RAM with AMD 7800XT. Running Lutris on Nobara.

Force DNF to automatically update from all repos without confirming each of them?

    Hi guys!

I have nobara (Fedora) with dnf as package manager. Whenever I do an update or search, DNF will refresh the repos. However, for all the additional repos (librewolf, proton, a few others), it individually asks if it's ok to refresh, for each one of them, every time. It's...tedious. Is there a way to setup DNF so it doesn't prompt every time?

    Thanks!

Does DJI still demand to be online every X days in order to let you fly?

Hi guys! My modded Mavic Pro is on its last legs, after 7 years of rather good use. I'm starting to consider it might die soon, and I might want to buy a replacement. But, I'd like to know how is the privacy situation with DJI these days. Do they still demand your app to check-in online every few days in order to upload your flight data? That was the reason I got a modded firmware/apk downgrade back in the day, and never looked back. But I wonder how are things now... Thanks!

Jellyfin: Can I disable HEVC playback on ONE device?

So, the issue at hand is, I have a Chromecast 4K with Jellyfin Android TV on it. And most of my library is x265/HEVC. But, whenever playing from this specific device, it will natively take HEVC, but with exoplayer library it plays kinda like a slideshow, at about 5-10FPS. Choosing VLC should be ok, and forcing a transcode will result in a perfectly playable x264 at 24-30-60FPS or whatever is needed. But x265 with the default exoplayer seems to be a struggle. Is there a way either in Jellyfin Android TV or in the server, to specifically disable x265 playback, but only on this device?

Any Google Translate live camera feed alternatives?

    Hi guys!

I'm setting up a recently wiped phone, and just finding out that in order to use gTranslate, not only you need the app Google Translate, you ALSO need the app Lens, with its own permissions, and then ALSO force feeds you the app Google. Is there a way to avoid this? Or an alternative that allows live image translation (from Chinese if possible) from what the camera is seeing? As, for a travel trip, so I can read signs and texts on the street.

    Thanks!

Server behind CGNAT - Reverse VPN? Or how to bypass?

So..in a short sentence...the title. I have a server in a remote location which also happens to be under CGNAT. I only get to visit this location once a year at best, so if anything goes off...It stays off for the rest of that year until I can go and troubleshoot. I have a main location/home where everything works, I get a fixed IP and I can connect multiple services as desired. I'd like to make this so I could publish internal servers such as HA or similar on this remote location, and reach them in a way easy enough that I could install the apps to non-tech users and they could just use them through a normal URL. Is this possible? I already have a PiVPN running wireguard on the main location, and I just tested an LXC container from remote location, it connects via wireguard to the main location just fine, can ping/ssh machines correctly. But I can't reach this VPN-connected machine from the main location. Alternatively, I'm happy to listen to alternative solutions/ideas on how to connect this remote location to the main one somehow.

    Thanks!

[Help] Cemu gets no input on SteamOS. But Desktop/Big Picture works?

Hi guys! I'm going on a trip where I'll have a bunch of kids playing Mario Kart on my Steam Deck. (Full setup, connected to a TV and a bunch of controllers...last year they had a blast). I just was testing this before the trip: Seems the Steam Deck's input is not being...registered on the game? I can't control anything. Also, seems to ignore a connected keyboard input, like if I hit Alt-Enter to leave full screen, I can see it kinda flickers, but doesn't get it to show the menus, and remains in game. But only while on SteamOS. Desktop mode with big picture gets the input correctly. Any idea what might be failing?

Best deck games for a flight? (as in...possibly running on batteries)

Hi guys! So, yeah...Which games are good for a nice gaming session while on a flight? Last time I played one of the newer Tomb Raider games, and while performance was good, it decked (heh) the battery in less than 1h... So, while I like these too, if the flight doesn't have a socket under the seat I might want to play games that don't kill the battery immediately. What's your best/most addictive Deck games? Also, after the whole big N mess...how's the Switch emulation these days?

    Basic docker networking?

Hi guys! I'm going at my first docker attempt...and I'm going in Proxmox. I created an LXC container, from which I installed docker, and portainer. Portainer seems happy to work, and shows its admin page on port 9443 correctly. I tried next running the image of immich, following the steps detailed in their own guide. This...doesn't seem to open the admin website on port 2283. But then again, it seems to run in its own docker internal network (172.16.0.x). How should I reach immich admin page from another computer in the same network? I'm new to Docker, so I'm not sure how are images supposed to communicate within the normal computer network...Thanks!

    Any "smart" Gallery app?

Hi guys! Is there any smart gallery app that can help tag/search the gallery pictures through automatically created tags, such as objects/things recognized in the pictures, locations etc? This is a rather convenient feature in some apple and samsung phones, which I think would be nice to have...But I reckon must consume some CPU/battery. I'd still want it scanning the gallery from time to time, if it was a private local process.

    Telnyx for personal VoIP use?

Hi! I'm just looking for a SIP provider so I can hook my phone to. Ideally with servers located in SE Asia for lower latency. Telnyx seems to have servers in Singapore, which seems convenient. Is it possible to prepay credit for SIP calls for a single account, then hook your phone with Linphone/Zoiper or similar and just use it for cheap international calling?

Alternatively, which other options you might suggest?

    Thanks!

Any Freedconn users? Thoughts on R3? Options/alternatives bang for buck?

Hi guys! I've been a kinda long term user of Freedconn camera/bluetooth/intercom combos, and I've been more or less happy with them. I've had up until now the more basic R1, then upgraded to two R1-Plus for me and my partner. These have been working very reliably for the last few years, but the weather hasn't been kind in one of them (mine). The charging lid fell off a long time ago, and with rain slowly seeping through I've seen some some annoying behaviors that might be linked to it... and it might need be needing a replacement soon.

I see the new R3 is supposed to have better video image, although I'm not sure how good will it perform in the night? Are car plates readable? With the R1 it takes some hard guessing due to the dark/bright contrast blinding the camera from showing the plate properly.

I also noticed the R3 also includes a "music share" function, which is interesting, but I wonder if that interrupts the normal intercom functionality? Or how does that work? Any ideas? Thanks!

Alternatively, is there any other camera/headset/intercom combos out there with similar/better qualities for a similar price?

    Thanks!

Halp. Installed plugin, now OpenRGB won't start anymore.

So...yeah. Just that. I have Linux Nobara (Fedora-based) and I was just testing a plugin (Open RGB Effects). I downloaded the Debian version, as I noticed it was a .so file...(maybe it would work, whaddayaknow). And so yeah, after loading the plugin, OpenRGB immediately crashed, and now it refuses to open. Error: ``` $ openrgb Attempting to connect to local OpenRGB server. Connection attempt failed Local OpenRGB server unavailable. Running standalone. Recommend me a wireless earphones/headset with good audio...that is PINK in color

So...trying to accommodate to gf's demands, here's a curve ball...which audio headset/earphones would you recommend that, while keeping good audio, sells also in PINK COLOR? Your average Sony XM, Sennheiser Momentum, Airpods etc...they all lack pink. Suggestions?

Trying to run stable diffusion with AMD GPU...Do I need private drivers?

Hi guys! I have a Desktop with Nobara, and open source mesa drivers for my 7800XT. When I try to run the webui.sh launcher, I get a segfault when trying to create the model. Is there a way to run it with open source drivers? Or without having to uninstall them? Can both privative and open source drivers coexist? This is mostly my gaming computer, but I'd like to be able to use it for stable diffusion as well.

    Thanks!
