New Crazy Taxi title will be an open-world, massively multiplayer AAA game, according to Sega
  • While I grew up playing the original Crazy Taxi (in arcade machine form, no less), I'm certain it would fail if released with the same gameplay formula today.

Some changes were necessary, for sure.

Having said that, making it massively multiplayer with a persistent open world definitely seems like a step in the wrong direction.

Something more akin to a modern roguelike with an expanding gameplay area and meaningful vehicle upgrades between runs probably would have been enough.

But, having said that, I'm hoping the studio is able to make something great. I'm very-cautiously optimistic.

  • Steam: Now that we're past the summer solstice, it's time for us to announce the Steam Summer Sale! Starting this Thursday at 10am
  • Because it annoys me deeply when people nerd out over difficult-to-search-for acronyms without ever bothering to explain it for people not in the know:

The web comic's called "the Parking Lot is Full".

It ran from 1993 to 2002, and while the original site has been down for years, you can still browse parts of it via archive.org.

  • Downtime #2

Will be updating Lemmy to 0.19.5 tonight (~10pm-ish EST), so expect a 1~2 hour window of downtime.

  • I always liked their UX, and never noticed any outright bugs?

But, yeah, definitely dislike the Spyware - I recall having to adb shell into the device and manually disable those processes after each update.

Shame they include that, their devices are (otherwise) really great.

  • That garlic cilantro compound butter sounds like a great addition; well done!

  • Monster Hunter Wilds interview: How Capcom is evolving its apex franchise
  • As a player who's played 4U, GU, World, and Rise; I'm kind of okay with that loss. The hunting side of things was always very weak and unintuitive (to me).

I think putting more emphasis on interactions with the world kind of help justify the existence of the open world - but more emphasis on finding and tracking monsters just seems like a step in a direction the teams - historically - haven't been the best at.

This is just my opinion, though - shame to see a part you liked about the games being reduced.

  • Monster Hunter Wilds director aims to push hardware 'to the max' to bring the world to life: 'Any Monster Hunter game where I'm director is always going to be focusing on the ecosystem'
  • Hearing statements like these really makes me appreciate the two studio/tag team approach Capcom takes to developing MH games.

I love that the portable/rise team is more focused on mechanics and systems, whereas the mainline team is more concerned with scale and simulation.

The fact that they can learn from each other and include the other team's successful additions into their own mix really means each game is taking steps in the right direction.

The hype train for Wilds ain't slowing down at all.

  • Turkish student creates custom AI device for cheating university exam, gets arrested
  • Turkish middle school, high school, and university exams are very serious.

Basically everyone takes the same set of long exams (with a few additions you can add to your standard exam sets, for specialized schools) and when the results come out, you are compared to all other students in the nation.

    Like, think global leaderboards.

The best universities will outright reject you if your ranking isn't high enough.

It's very intense and cut-throat; so much so that - when I was a young'un growing up in Turkey - I just opted to try my hand at the SATs instead. Ended up going to school abroad.

The SATs were so easy, compared to the exam prep we did in our Turkish classes, it almost felt like a joke. Though, college tuition costs definitely made sure I wasn't the one with the last laugh.

  • Images

Images will be down for a bit longer (an hour) while I migrate our backend storage. That's part 1 of a 2 part series of fixes I'll be doing to potentially fix server issues.

The second part will require me to take the server offline for a bit, so I'm hoping to avoid that unless absolutely necessary.

If all goes well, image uploads should be working again in the long run.

    Edit: We're done. Test image:

It's very well known that the AA is basically just Tayyip's propoganda machine. It's a very hard bias towards whatever he's looking to say, at that point in time, not necessarily right or left wing.

  • Image uploading
  • No it hasn't, but pict-rs (the backend image service) has been going down recently.

I'll have to take the server down for some maintenance this weekend to fix the issue.

Will post an update here, when it's happening/done.

    Edit: test image, please ignore

Edit 2: Uploads seem borked via Voyager, but they work via the normal web ui at lemmy.beru.co

  • The RTS genre will never be mainstream unless you change it until it's 'no longer the kind of RTS that I want to play,' says Crate Entertainment CEO
  • Other than the slightly similar camera angle - and emphasis on slight: those games have very different styles of camera - those are completely distinct games.

I get the idea that you're not a fan of those titles for their design choices which led to mainstream success, but holy crap give them an iota of credit.

  • That was Sony's site. Super shitty what they did there.

But on the Steam Store page it was always "a PS account is required".

    Cast Iron Pan Pizza

Made some pan pizza, the other day. Followed this recipe, with some added Napoli Salame on top.

Note: The white sauce is some home made ranch dressing. As the crust is covered in caramelized cheese/frico, I enjoy dipping it into a special sauce.

Edit: Used the leftover tomato juice for a bloody mary, which is in the glass next to the pizza.

[Spoilers] Episode 5x03 - Pride Parade Discussion

(Dunno if the mods were planning on making episode discussion posts themselves, or if we're free to make these sorts of posts - let me know if you want me to take it down!)

    spoiler

But, yeah - what a great episode! Laszlo reprising his role as someone helping another member of the gang, Guillermo slowly realizing how much Nandor cares, the ramifications of Guillermo's sweat being - ostensibly - Vampire sunscreen...

Not to mention everything about Colin's antics - including the mid-credits scene.

...probably my favorite episode of the season, so far!

    So good.

    Thoughts?
