Old timers know
  • This is what I do because my sites aren't complicated enough to warrant a build system. Personally I think most websites out there are over-engineered. Example: a Discord friend made a React site that displays stats from a gaming server. It looks nice, but you literally can't hyperlink to any of the data, it can only be loaded dynamically and only looks coherent on a phone in portrait mode. There are a lot of people following trends (some good trends) but without really thinking about why.

  • Ctrl + Shift + A
  • Holy cow, it's finally here. Not only that, I really like the way it looks in the layers panel. I thought they would just copy Krita filter layers, but this implementation seems smarter.

  • New Environment Idea: Wall Portals

Probably been suggested before and I know Gateway traps exist, but I think having wall portals would be interesting. The idea is that they only appear along a wall and work both ways instead of the Gateway traps unidirectional flow. Wall portals could work in just one room or perhaps joining two different rooms. And speaking of Gateway traps, what if there was a different color variation that sent you to an adjacent floor?

Has Google’s search results drastically declined for anyone else?
  • Not who you replied to, but I've been using DuckDuckGo for years knowing it's limitations and would occasionally use Google if I needed more specific search results, however, these days Google Search is about the same as DDG and (even as a fan) I have to admit DDG was never and is not a spectacular search engine. Honestly, the thing that surprises me most is that when I get inadequate results from DDG and try Google, the results are basically the same. Not a great look for Google.

  • What is the ideal Monk build in SPD?
  • Thanks for the decent reply. I just got done with a Monk run using +0 Cloth Armor and +6 Studded Gloves and it wasn't too bad, just felt like I was relying on wands and rings a bit too much. My big issue with Monk seems to be not being able to uncover the "unique" play style. Everything I've read so far just looks like some variation of Mage or Freerunner or Gladiator. Maybe that's just what she is? A little bit of everything? And I'm still looking for the "ultimate synergy" you can find with other classes.

  • What is the ideal Monk build in SPD?
  • But why T4 weapon and T3 armor? Does the Monk get a bonus for those? And shouldn't I use T3 and lower weapons to make use of her Talents??? I'm looking for more specific info on the sub-class. +6 of any weapon and armor is basically an automatic win for me already, regardless of class. I'm looking for the best build for Monk, like a specific synergy.

  • What is the ideal Monk build in SPD?

I've played this game for years but haven't been able to get the hang of the Monk sub-class. I remember having a really good run with a hand axe, but the whole time I felt like I wasn't playing the character properly. What is the best weapon/armor/ring/etc for a Monk and how best to utilize the special moves?

Extend Arcane Stylus Functionality in SPD?
  • Cool, thanks for thinking about a recipe. It would be nice if stylus could do more. With my play style I usually save them until I choose end-game armor and often it already has a glyph, or alternatively I get a great glyph on the first try and wind up selling or alchemizing all the other stylus for gold. So guess this is also about inventory management since it's rare to not have a stylus taking up a slot.

  • Extend Arcane Stylus Functionality in SPD?

I feel like the Arcane Stylus should be reimagined slightly. In the original PD there were many more in the game and they had a secondary function of repairing degraded armor. Stylus were later replaced by the Scroll of Enchant. In SPD, Enchant Runestones do the same thing, so the stylus is a bit redundant (not that this is a bad thing), but I wonder if there is some other way to make stylus more interesting or useful?

For instance, maybe they could be a rare item but instead of a random glyph the player gets to pick between two glyphs? And/or maybe you can use them on cursed armor to weaken a curse but not remove it? Also, it think it's strange this magical item can't be used for alchemy. It would be nice if they could at least be turned into alchemal energy even if there were no recipe, or turned into an arcane catalyst, or maybe you can combine two or more styluses into a Runestone of Enchant?

    Just some thoughts.

‘Front page of the internet’: how social media’s biggest user protest rocked Reddit
  • This is what I do. Also, I mostly access reddit from a RSS feed so I don't even really visit the site much. I read everything I want in my feed reader, and maybe look at the comments on the site if a particular post looks interesting. Never logged in, never comment, never vote on a post.

  • [DEV] Shattered's Second Caves Quest Variant
  • The boulders are a good idea, though I think the sprite could use a little work, something more subtle. Like, there is already a floor tile that has smaller rocks so in my imagination I'm expecting something that looks more like a larger version of that. Looking forward to trying it out.

  • What less popular text editors do you like or should have a shout out more often? What stuff do you do with it?
  • I'm a new Kate convert. I had some issue on my system where GTK apps would break under Nvidia, something to do with font rendering. I tried Kate and was like "cool it works" and then I discovered how amazing and lightweight it is. Great editor.

  • New Weapon Idea: Tier 1 Slingshot
  • I think a blowpipe is a good idea, consider my view changed! Anything that increases the chance of attacking at a distance on those runs devoid of artillery and offensive wands. I feel like spears and whips are too valuable in the early game, can't tell you how many times I've bought a spear in the Prison Shop because it was essential to success in that region.

  • New Weapon Idea: Tier 1 Slingshot
  • True, but having the slingshot be much weaker than the bow could offset this and maybe it could have a limited range or something. Or, maybe a high limit to the ammo so you have to eventually buy some from a shop, so more like a weak crossbow instead of directly competing with the Spirit Bow? I just feel like there is room on the game for something like a slingshot. Other weapons have weaker/stronger versions but there is nothing like a weak crossbow.

  • New Weapon Idea: Tier 1 Slingshot

There are no T1 ranged weapons (other than the Mage's Staff). I thought something like a slingshot would help in the first two regions because sometimes artillery are scarce and the Wandmaker doesn't always offer a good offensive wand. I imagine a slingshot like a weaker Spirit Bow, something with infinite ammo (since there would likely be small fragments of rock everywhere in the Dungeon). There have been times when I've faced Tengu with nothing more than a Wand of BlastWave and a pair of Throwing Clubs, so something like a slingshot would increase chances of success with such a poor selection of weapons.

I feel like someone suggested this years ago but can't remember specifically.
