Wood fired brown bread
  • Wow, that's faster than I thought. One hour to prep gives a few hours of heat. If you're making your own bread dough, you're probably waiting for the final rise while you stoke the oven.

  • Fairy Wrens are s.t.u.n.n.i.n.g.l.y blue.
  • Brings back memories of our caravan/hiking trip in Tasmania. We saw quite a few fairy wrens in the campgrounds. The colour of these birds is surreal, so brilliant that they are almost cartoon-ish. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ruby-crowned Kinglet
  • Kinglets are super cute bouncing around the bushes and have quite a loud song for their size. I was happy to be able to save this one and see it up close. Never would have been able to catch a close-up otherwise.

  • Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Vancouver Island, Canada. This little gaffer flew into our window and I found him on the ground. I carefully placed him into one of our hanging baskets (we have cats). It took at least an hour before it finally flew off.

A good day for Percy, a bad day for the mouse

He climbed up the 8 foot gate to catch his prey. Poor little mouse didn't stand a chance.

Just started showing up in our chipped wood mulch

We have a number of large piles of rotted wood chips on our land from about five years old when we had to clear a few trees. They produced quite a few two years ago, then nothing last year with the dry fall in our area. We're happy to see them again.

Absolute unit on the west coast
  • Thanks for your input and narrowing it down to agaricus. Agaricus augustus seems more prevalent in our area and matches the description on local online sites. This species is apparently edible but I'm afraid this particular one is well past its prime picking time.

  • Absolute unit on the west coast
  • I was thinking it was a deer also and maybe our dog spooked him off before he finished his meal. We have a lot of blacktail deer here. They eat everything, and our landscaping reflects their appetite.

Banana for scale. I was a little late to the party as it looks like something munched on it.

Found beside our raised garden bed on Vancouver Island. Not sure species, any guesses from the experts out there?

This is my first photo posted on Lemmy so excuse the amateur effort.
