This Week In SC - 8/14/2023
  • Someone asked a while back how much work Claudius would be.. whether CIG would have to replace a million different audio files or not. Would be nice to see how far along they are with that.

  • CIG noticed the frustration? Ready For Anything kit being sent for free.

This was reported over on [reddit[(https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/15hctp4/correcting_a_wrong_ready_for_anything_kit_now/). The OP doesn't know why it was gifted. It was on a new account that used a referral code.

The Ready For Anything kit also seems to have been removed from the store. There are still a couple armor kits, but at least they aren't promoting them to new players.

I'd like to think CIG has learned from this, but it's probably just damage control.

What Star Citizen mechanic are you most looking forward too?
  • Not a major game mechanic per-se, but I'm looking forward to a better contract system. All of these professions will be great, but without the ability for players to contract other players, they all fall short. Imagine a mining captain issuing a contract for players and they automatically get paid out a set amount for the work they put in. That system is going to really improve the game!

  • What Star Citizen mechanic are you most looking forward too?
  • Man we need this so bad. Let players make tracks and have some kind of front-end for players to look through them / rate them. It would be cool if the server could give payouts for winners, even if it's only like, 100k an hour max or something.

  • Inside Star Citizen: Preparing Prototypes
  • It's a little alarming that they're just prototyping the rest of salvaging at this point. You think this work would have been done while the T0 functionality was being worked on?

I always have a mini panic attack when I think about all the mechanics for this game that are just ideas that came out of CR's ass. Development on some major parts of the game (exploration) hasn't even started yet.

  • The Fifth Element (1997 4K)
  • I love that this is one of the first movies that get converted to knew technology (like blueray, etc) when it comes out. It's always great watching again every decade or so in higher and higher fidelity :D

  • Maelstrom - a destructible object system refactor?

I read through the transcript for the last SC Live that was posted here on [email protected] and say that Sean dropped a bomb on something they're calling Maelstrom internally.

He said they're working on a physical damage refactor that handles "how ships and characters break apart", and that they want to use this for world objects as well. Has this ever been mentioned before? Is there anything on the progress tracker related to this?

Obviously this is something that we would all love to see in the game. Getting stopped by a small twig or box when you're driving a vehicle around is frustrating and it would be great to be able to run through certain things. I just don't know if it's worth getting our hopes up that this will ever be implemented, due to the nature of the PU and how hard it would be to persist these types of changes across the server.

Also: Jareds face was priceless when Sean asked if this had been talked about before on the show 😆

Edit: This was around 1 hr 4 minutes into the video if anyone wants to check it out.
