Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is the next open-world racer that seems destined for live service Hell
  • I did not realize this game is being made by KT Racing. Their WRC games were kind of yearly copy/pastes and the last one had around two months of updates before it was abandoned.

    I won't dismiss this game yet but it has me a bit worried.

  • Seeking feedback on lemmy-ui-next! (Milestone 2 is nearing completion!)
  • Not sure if it has been mentioned already, but, it would be great if this could be set to a PWA so various mobile web browsers could "install" it properly to the device's home screen (like Mastodon does).

    Otherwise, I am loving it!

  • Intro & roadmap
  • I just randomly thought of this project and logged in specifically to see if there were any updates to it. This is exciting, I'll be sure to follow the project and contribute if I can!

    Is there a sort of dev talk chat room going on where people interested could join, share ideas, and get help with making features?

    [SOLVED] Cannot have both private instance and federation enabled

    After using Ansible to upgrade Lemmy following the instructions (https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ansible) I am now getting the error

    Error: LemmyError { message: Some("Cannot have both private instance and federation enabled."), inner: Cannot have both private instance and federation enabled., context: "SpanTrace" }

    I am not sure how to change either private to requiring approval or public OR disable federation now. I don't see anything about it in the relevant documentation (https://join-lemmy.org/docs/en/administration/configuration.html) but I could be missing something.

    The docker container keeps trying to restart and fails each time. Any help with this would be really appreciated!

    EDIT: solved it by ssh'ing into the postgres docker container, running psql and UPDATE local_site SET private_instance = 'f' WHERE id = 1;

    Also, I changed it back to private in the admin settings and it's fine now... really weird. Going to need to remember to do this every update I guess.

    What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • Personally, I like it way more than 3. I could never get into the older games (including 3). Others say it's a "reskin of 3" which I think is kind of ridiculous.

    The story so far is actually pretty intriguing. I mean, it's not mind-blowing, I'm pretty sure of what will happen, but it's still good for a game in this genre.

    Replayability is really endless, but, I don't know if I'd say it has more replayability than the older games, it just may be more replayable for you if you like it more.

  • I have not used Plex in years, however, just the fact that Jellyfin is FOSS is enough for me to want to use it more. I am not sure what features Plex has that Jellyfin doesn't, but, it does everything it can do really well. Honestly, just throw it up next to Plex and see how you like it. Installation is a breeze, at least with Docker.

  • What distro(s) do you use?
  • Pop!_OS. I have always loved System76 and have one of their laptops, as well as an HP Dev One that I use as a daily driver. The convenience and tiling system of the DE is the simplest I've used so far and works perfectly. I used to run Arch but I just don't want to deal with it anymore, honestly.

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • Well, it's always multiplayer, meaning you will see people out in the world constantly. A lot of content (like dungeons) is instanced to your party, though, so you won't see randoms where it really matters. Personally, I have only played solo so far except for the aforementioned randoms :). I'm sure it would be very fun with others, though!

  • I usually pre-order PC games that come with a pre-order bonus on Steam because I can just refund it in two hours of playtime/2 weeks in library if it sucks. If it doesn't, well, I was going to buy it anyway. I know game prices are ridiculous now and I'm buying far less than I used to but being able to just refund it is a game-changer.

  • Elon Musk Says Twitter Is Going To Get Rid Of The Block Feature, Enabling Greater Harassment
  • I hate Elon as much as the next guy but from reading the article he talks about stopping the blockage of public posts. Doesn't this make sense? You can just go into incognito mode and look at their account anyway. As far as I can tell, you still won't be able to interact with the user.

    It's like when the whole Trump blocking people was being talked about as not allowing citizens to see public information that the president tweeted. I know that ordinary citizens is totally different, but again, if your account is public people that you block will find a way to look at your posts if they want to.

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • Diablo 4! I find it oddly relaxing in my current state of mind. At first I was adamant about listening to the soundtrack and all the voice acting but I've found I enjoy it way more by just reading the story and listening to my own music.

    I've got a necromancer and a sorcerer. Necromancer is incredibly easier, to the point I haven't touched the sorcerer since I made it. I will probably make another character soon, not sure what.

  • What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?
  • It's true, though. I am very guilty of it. I have gotten better at it but 100% of the time I'd click the comments first no matter what. If it seemed worthy of my attention I'd click the link. If it seemed too far-fetched I'd click the link.

    I'm realizing now that it's mostly because I don't want to wait the 0.5 seconds for another page to load (ridiculous on my part) and possibly deal with paywalls.

  • How many of you have pulled the plug and deleted reddit already?
  • I ended up using shreddit, a Rust remake of an unmaintained Python script (https://github.com/x89/Shreddit). I had to keep running it over and over, but, I think that was the Reddit API's fault. If you end up using it, I recommend running it in a loop unless you want to keep running the same command over and over.

    Anyway, it deleted all posts and comments, but messages in my inbox are still there. I'm fine with that for now but eventually want to clear that out I think.

    If you're thinking of doing this I'd recommend running it before the API changes since the script uses it.
