StarCraft 2 production director pitched WarCraft 4 and a Call Of Duty RTS before leaving Blizzard, claims report
  • Dawn of War 3 was absolutely ruined by them trying to make it an eSports. I find most RTS doesn't give that same feel we got when WC3 first came out or later on when Company of Heroes was released. They were solid games that brought something new to the genre.

  • Software Engineering Documentation Best Practice?
  • Thanks for this. As part of onboarding I have been trying to update where I can. There are times I wonder if I am adding to docs what others may perceive as fluff as it may be something obvious to them. I like to work with a "If we're all on a bus that goes over a cliff, does someone new have everything they need?" mentality.

At present the team is using GitHub Pages, which almost feels like a hurdle itself in updating the documentation quickly and keeping it organised and consistent. Being a junior I personally prefer a WYSIWYG. From your experience is there any pros/cons in using a WYSIWYG vs Markdown?

  • Software Engineering Documentation Best Practice?

Hey all, I'm still a junior dev with years of experience in IT. One of the things I've noticed since making the switch is that (at least where I work) documentation is inconsistent.

Things I encounter include incomplete documentation, outdated documentation and written process details that have assumed knowledge which makes it difficult for junior Devs to pick up.

I've had a search and a lot of what is out there talks more about product and how to document that SDLC rather than best practice in writing and organising documents against the actual software engineering and its processes.

Does anyone have any good sources or suggestions on how I could look to try and begin to improve documentation within my team?

'Twilight of the Gods' Review: Zack Snyder's Norse Mythology Cartoon
  • I quite liked Zack Snyder's works regardless of what people would say, even thought Army of the Dead was average but watchable. After watching the first Rebel Moon I realised the works are all style but barely any substance and I just can't see myself getting invested in anything released under his name in the future.

I feel like if he was paired up with a great writer and someone who could reign in his use of slow-mo we could be on to a winner

  • Smudge
  • I hate when people ask me to pass them their glasses. They're putting the responsibility of not smudging their glasses on me. Sure I can do it, but there is always that small possibility of failure.

If the glasses are folded up there is that moment of trying to decide how to grab the glasses. Do I grab them by the bridge bit that sits on their nose, or by the bits that hook over the ears? Surely it's too risky to grab by the frame around the glasses.. if they exist.

Kids who use ChatGPT as a study assistant do worse on tests
  • As adults we are dubious of the results that AI gives us. We take the answers with a handful of salt and I feel like over the years we have built up a skillset for using search engines for answers and sifting through the results. Kids haven't got years of experience of this and so they may take what is said to be true and not question the results.

As you say, the kids should be taught to use the tool properly, and verify the answers. AI is going to be forced onto us whether we like it or not, people should be empowered to use it and not accept what it puts out as gospel.

  • The subscription fee imo is warranted given they release new content every 3 months, which includes voice acting, new dungeons, and new raid content. If it was a monthly sub with nothing released between expansions it wouldn't be acceptable imo. Highly recommend not having a recurring sub

  • Day 45 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • I have 3,400 hours in this game. What I enjoy is that I'm not expected to dedicate my life to it. I pay for 30 days at a time and play when new content is released every 3 months.

I know the last expansion Dawntrail is being slated on Steam reviews, but gameplay wise it was great. The music was solid as always, the Arcadion content was fun and the new zones looked great. Given how good the story has been in the past expansions I can understand how hard it must be to write a whole new story arc and make everyone happy. Some people want something entirely new, while others want to keep it all the same.

    Has anyone seen Loudermilk?

I recently kept getting advertised Loudermilk on Netflix. I'd see the initial trailer that they play and wasn't intrigued. I then sat down for lunch and wanted something to watch, I decided to give it a go and after the first couple of episodes I was hooked. I finished season 3 and it was such a fun show to watch. Unfortunately I see the studio that created it has been shuttered. What's the likelihood this show will ever be picked up again?
