Anon thinks about Google
  • They used to have both the old school one where you swipe up on the three sections at the bottom, as well as the new Google one for years. The newest update to OneUI 6.1 removed the classic swipe controls for no reason, keeping only the Google one. I had to install Good Lock and NavStar to make some sort of custom settings configuration, which returned the navigation option. Thankfully I did get it working, but only after messing around and wasting 20 minutes of my time.

I really hate that they think they own my device, not me.

  • I'm not saying that a giant pipeline would be preferable, but cooling LNG to cryogenic temperatures and keeping it there for the entire voyage is very energy intensive, not to mention the fuel costs of a carrier vessel. I am against gas exploration and transporting in general and in all its forms. It should not be considered a 'necessary' evil and it should certainly not see further investment in my opinion.

  • For home use I have seen most people buy dirt in bags. A sedan or even a compact would handle carrying those. The open sides can be a benefit for sure, but I don't know about putting cargo 'as high as you want to,' given that wind is a thing. And vans are pretty tall anyway!

I understand that they can have some utility on a farm or something, but the average person is not regularly transporting a 'couple loads of dirt' in suburbia.

  • A van will have more cargo volume for the same wheelbase, be easier to load, and have the cargo be covered from the elements. Those are made for carrying stuff. Pick-ups are made only to show that the owner is compensating for something.

  • [ RELEASE - PUBLIC ] - New Plex Desktop App Version Available - 1.95.3
  • Plex is fine for content delivery but they are pushing their own media services and require payment for more advanced features and some devices, which some fear will only get worse over time. Jellyfin is nearly as good for media playback but fully free and open source.

  • Having to score strangers on their 'empathy' and 'courtesy' and 'knowledge' (anything less than a 5 star is a 'bad grade', I am sure)
  • It's easier that some think, but it is not easy. Of course it is more convenient to just keep using the thing you are already using, and no one is saying that clicking one button and getting a package the next day can't be a time save, just that it is not impossible or extremely difficult to stop using the service.

And retail businesses with physical locations definitely don't do the exact same thing as Amazon, given that you can go to the store to get your item as opposed to needing it delivered.

  • Republicans enraged by Biden’s efforts to keep gas prices lower
  • And that is exactly why technological development should be supported, rather than using that money to desperately keep the old ways. Pouring money into temporarily subsidizing a finite resource at the expense of investments into the future is ultimate short-term thinking. Is it really so bad if fuel prices creep up over time? This of course assumes that this money would be used for more productive ways otherwise, which is not a safe bet.

  • Maybe my wording is unclear. I am wondering how they should be expected to detect it in the first place. Murder leaves a body. Abuse leaves a victim. Generating files on a computer? Nothing of the sort, unless it is shared online. What would a new regulation achieve that isn't already covered under the illegality of 'revenge porn?' Furthermore, how can they possibly even detect anything beyond that without massive privacy breaches as I wrote before?

Docker configs destroyed after update [resolved!]

Hello selfhosted community, something weird just happened to my setup while running a routine update.

I'm running docker containers on a couple Debian LXCs through Proxmox, and a regular apt-get upgrade just wiped all my configurations. Somehow it seems to have gutted my databases and deleted the compose.yml files without a trace remaining. Thankfully all my data seems to be intact as far as I can tell.

Did I royally mess something up in all of my configurations or in doing the update? This has never happened to me before. Thankfully I have a backup for the configs that's about 6 days old, but it's still extremely annoying. Any hints? Thanks
