Can we talk about defederating with exploding heads?
I've started seeing racist memes from the exploding heads instance on All. I know I can (and have) blocked the communities I've come across from there, but I'd be happier to know that my home instance doesn't create a space for the people seeking out that kind of content. Obviously I'm not in charge here and to my understanding we ideally do things democratically here, so I'm really just hoping to start a conversation.
Virtual buttons on a touch screen just feels like an artifact of an earlier generation of phone games. I have friends that play a lot of Tetris on mobile and all of their modern non-foss tetris games use swipe controls.
The UI of Blockinger leaves a lot to be desired. The ability to swipe to interact would be a huge improvement over the buttons taking up half the screen.
Any actively maintained FOSS Tetris games?
On fdroid the best I could find was Blockinger which was last updated 9 years ago. It seems to work fine on my phone, but I do wonder if there are any newer projects or improved forks that I can use. Thanks!
Mods here may not appreciate this post since it's pretty off topic, but I'm sure glad to have seen this!
For me at least jerboa isn't really functional for searching for new communities, let alone instances. You're better off in your mobile browser. And even then you'll only find instances that are already federated with your home instance (meaning someone on you home instance will have had to search and subscribe to one of the communities on the instance you're trying to find). Your best bet for finding instances is actually outside websites like https://join-lemmy.org/instances or other websites dedicated to listing and sorting instances.
Syncthing solves this problem for me without my keyring being exposed to any outside servers.
The paint looks great! I've always loved scout rifles aesthetically.
I've got a handful of books written by and about Zapatistas. One I really like is a collection of modern folk tales written in/adapted to English by Comandante Marco, although I can't remember the name now. I'll take a look at my bookshelf tomorrow and either comment here or make my own post to share.
Also thanks for linking the dbzero community I hadn't seen that one yet!
This is fixed on the new version of the app! You can get it on F-droid with the IzzyOnDroid repo, or build it directly with Obtainium
I'd much rather see us defederate from exploding.heads. although I have to admit that I haven't seen any objectionable posts from either instance in the wild yet.
I just updated too. The app worked for a few minutes (it really is a huge update and the app just feels so much smoother now with all the small fixes), but now it just crashes every time I open it. I assume it must have to do with the minimum server version requirement. Probably not a bad idea for me to go touch grass anyways haha.
Edit: nvm I guess it just wanted to crash like three times in a row, but seems to be working fine now.
The loss of RvW has meant that certain states have essentially outlawed all abortions, and I believe others have tightened restrictions beyond what they would have been allowed to before, while still technically allowing them under the right conditions. Practically what that means is many many people now have to travel out of state (sometimes across multiple states to the nearest abortion friendly state) in order to access safe abortions. Unfortunately some states (Texas and maybe others) have even outlawed going to a legal state for an abortion. Texas has also passed a law that allows for regular people to "report" their neighbors if they suspect they've gotten an abortion.
Even though in many places it's still legal to travel to another state for an abortion, for poorer people this is often entirely cost prohibitive because many southern states are completely surrounded by anti-abortion states. The distant travel problem is further exasperated by our countries general lack of public transportation (trains and buses are more expensive here and have very limited routes). Add to that again the fact that the vast majority of our work force, especially low paid workers, have none or very little paid sick leave.
Essentially the wealthy in most of the country can still access safe abortion by taking a short vacation to a nearby state, whereas poorer folks might find it extremely difficult or impossible to afford the necessary travel, let alone the cost of our notoriously expensive healthcare.
You can also use Redreader. It's been my main way of accessing reddit for years and it's actually the only app (that I know of) with the API exception for being accessibility focused and non-monetized. It's FOSS and has been ad free forever, although I fear reddit will make them start serving reddit's ads on the first.
I use Aegis for 2FA and keepassdx for password management. Syncthing keeps everything synced across devices without any effort on my part.
But spam and promotional material (where innapropriate) are worthy of a report so they can be removed, not just pushed down into obscurity.
Can other people actually see the picture? It doesn't show up for me even though it should be uploaded to my home instance. Still getting my bearings here on Lemmy 😅
It's pleasing for sure, but wtf is with the positioning of those lights? Lol
