Why do comps suck so bad?
I'm heading out to support some teammates at a Grappling Industries today. It's a round robin format in the group stage. One of the guys divisions starts at 5.20, and he has his last round robin match scheduled for 11.30 right now. They still have to do the semi final and final matches after that.
It's a good intermediate spot to link your guard passing into mount, rather than into side control.
Standing passes tend to pair well with knee on belly, and you can use it to open up backtakes, armbars, kimuras, and mount
Judo is awesome. One of the guys in my gym has trained for a few years, I always grab him to practice trips and footsweep
Boxing is awesome. Be interesting to see if the footwork improves your standup. I always thought the distance management and angles would help

I'm partial to a wristlock right now. I've been locking people up in triangles, pulling the arm out like I'm gonna hit the triangle arm bar and wristlocking them. Had a couple of people say please just choke me 🤣
Yeah no twist. The crazy thing was that Dean got submitted at all, and what he got submitted with.
He hadn't been subbed in competition for like 10 years before that, and the sub was kinda widely regarded as a big man move that only worked against newbs.

I started out in traditional Japanese martial arts, been doing some Muay Thai on the side for the last few years
Yeah, I got this at blue and at purple, it's imposter syndrome. I spent a while at purple, so I felt ready when I got the brown.
Purple I kinda felt a bit of a weight lifted off my shoulders, in terms of the journey to black. When you get the blue, the gap to black feels like a yawning gulf. The two years to blue is less than a quarter way there, it's kinda daunting. I feel thatight be a part of the blue belt blues for a lot of folk.
Purple felt like a halfway mark almost. You know you're improving, gotta keep working hard. I also kinda felt that if I make it to purple, I'm gonna be in this for life, regardless of belts
