Star Trucker delivers its chill mix of Euro Truck Simulator and Freelancer onto Steam and Game Pass this September
  • I didn't try it on my Deck but it ran great under Proton on my main rig. A little bare bones in the demo and the rates you run out of power/O2 and systems got worn out was cranked way up to show how it would work, so it wasn't as chill as I was hoping. Full version should be a little calmer so I'm looking forward to it

  • Windows just changed my desktop wallpaper and re-added the search bar without my permission after an update
  • I've been 100% Linux for almost 8 years now and a fairly heavy gamer. There's a handful of games with online anticheat stuff that devs refuse to make compatible, but beyond that it's almost always click install and play in Steam even for stuff that isn't "compatible".

  • Ah I think I was unclear. The meme is what folks get tired of, the distro is a popular one on its own or as a base for others.

If you're interested in looking into Linux but don't know where to start, the only thing you really need to know is how much time you're willing to put into learning it, and how big the community is. Arch has a huge amount of documentation, but will make things a little harder if you want stuff to "just work". Debian is more of a middle ground (but huge community), and Mint is a popular easier to get into environment but honestly I'm out of the loop on that one these days.Arch is actually the base of the one I use at the moment for gaming and dev work (EndeavourOS). Options are overwhelming, I get it 😁

The cool thing? Try em all. You can easily find simple installers to slap a whole distro onto a bootable thumb drive and goof off while you feel things out. If you don't like it, reboot. If your wifi doesn't work and you can't find a solution online in a few minutes, reboot. Things are easier and more flexible now then they've ever been, but the new user experience is still where Linux really struggles.

Anyway, I'm super into this shit clearly. 😆 Happy to point you in a more solid direction if you want at some point, or I can just shut up lol

  • It's a choice, it's just a funny meme that half of folks I these circles want to die and half will use anyway lol.

You do you bud, there's no One Beat Distro and a lot of em can be bent into whatever shape you need anyway.

  • Tried a newer pack after a while away, pretty great!

I recently spun up a server for some friends that have all been playing with me since the alpha days, and wanted something fresh. Saw AutoCraft mentioned somewhere and checked into it. Basically a full blown kitchen sink pack with so much to do I can't get anything productive done, but it's been great!

Pack admin is responsive and trying to grow a community on their Discord. I've been impressed! It's not perfect for us, mostly around removing some of the client side QoL or gimmick mods that didn't fit how we play and not having any inventory organization out of the box (they're adding it), but more or less stable and good performance.

Anyway, just wanted to participate in the instance haha
