What's this Bug? @lemmy.ml Linuto @lemmy.world

What is this bug? Found it dying on my bathroom floor, finished it off with roach spray. It has roach like antenna, but I've never seen a roach this long and thin (about an inch long).

I'm in Michigan if that helps. Never even known anyone around here who has seen or had a roach problem.

  • Why is living with your parents considered a bad thing?
  • I'd add on that the expectation in an individualist society like the US is to become independent and move out. Those ideas are used synonymously in a lot of contexts. Someone who hasn't moved out can be seen as lacking independence. Of course that isn't necessarily true, but it's the perception.

For a young person growing up with these ideas as the standard, there can be a certain safety in forgoing that independence. That was my situation for years, where I was financially independent, but moved back home after my roommates moved away. I was in my mid twenties before I moved out for good.

  • Systems or mechanics for doing better travel?

Hey all, I've done a lot that I'm proud with in the past for random tables while traveling. Weather, encounters, and even the environment are all dynamic and changing in ways that my players enjoy.

What I feel like is missing is a fun way for the players to feel like they are plotting a course through my hexcrawl. They have a mostly blank map with points of interest that get added days or even weeks from their central location. While my players enjoy roleplaying around the fire, fighting monsters, and filling in the map as they go, a train ride could accomplish the same result.

Does anyone know an RPG system, or have some mechanics that facilitate the PC's trailblazing a path? Using their survival skills to find a safe way forward, that kind of thing. Thanks!

Programming Schedule: Week of January 29th, 2024
  • I'm glad we're getting another episode of C3 this week! It's felt really difficult to stay connected with how far apart they've been lately. 2 weeks between this and the last episode, and another 2 weeks before the episode before that. Hopefully now that the holidays are firmly behind us, the programming schedule will normalize a bit.

  • Florida State Surgeon General Calls for Halt in the Use of COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines
  • From the article, not in OP's summary:

In 2007, the FDA published guidance on regulatory limits for DNA vaccines in the Guidance for Industry: Considerations for Plasmid DNA Vaccines for Infectious Disease Indications (Guidance for Industry). In this Guidance for Industry, the FDA outlines important considerations for vaccines that use novel methods of delivery regarding DNA integration, specifically:

    • DNA integration could theoretically impact a human’s oncogenes – the genes which can transform a healthy cell into a cancerous cell.

    • DNA integration may result in chromosomal instability.

    • The Guidance for Industry discusses biodistribution of DNA vaccines and how such integration could affect unintended parts of the body including blood, heart, brain, liver, kidney, bone marrow, ovaries/testes, lung, draining lymph nodes, spleen, the site of administration and subcutis at injection site.

On December 14, 2023, the FDA provided a written response providing no evidence that DNA integration assessments have been conducted to address risks outlined by the FDA themselves in 2007. Based on the FDA’s recognition of unique risks posed by DNA integration, the efficacy of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine’s lipid nanoparticle delivery system, and the presence of DNA fragments in these vaccines, it is essential to human health to assess the risks of contaminant DNA integration into human DNA. The FDA has provided no evidence that these risks have been assessed to ensure safety. As such, Florida State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo has released the following statement:

“The FDA’s response does not provide data or evidence that the DNA integration assessments they recommended themselves have been performed. Instead, they pointed to genotoxicity studies – which are inadequate assessments for DNA integration risk. In addition, they obfuscated the difference between the SV40 promoter/enhancer and SV40 proteins, two elements that are distinct.

DNA integration poses a unique and elevated risk to human health and to the integrity of the human genome, including the risk that DNA integrated into sperm or egg gametes could be passed onto offspring of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine recipients. If the risks of DNA integration have not been assessed for mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, these vaccines are not appropriate for use in human beings.

Providers concerned about patient health risks associated with COVID-19 should prioritize patient access to non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and treatment. It is my hope that, in regard to COVID-19, the FDA will one day seriously consider its regulatory responsibility to protect human health, including the integrity of the human genome.”

  • Interesting interaction with destructive wrath and conjure elemental.

I am running the popular tempest cleric build with a bit of wizard thrown in. I summoned an air elemental, which prompted the game to ask if I wanted to trigger destructive wrath. I haven't tested this, but I'm curious what the effect would be, if any.

Edit: Can confirm this does nothing if triggered. I had hoped it would maybe apply max damage to the next thunder/lightning attack the elemental made, but no such luck.

[spoiler] PSA: Mirror of Loss, Cleric of Selune

Just so no one else reloads 131 times like I did to get a +2 wisdom bonus for Shadowheart, it doesn't work for her since she has "nothing more to give."

Yes, I kept track of how many times I reloaded.

    Daggerheart RPG @lemmy.world Linuto @lemmy.world

How are people feeling about cards being a central part of the game?

I am very wary of that design choice.

    • Players already have a hard time keeping track of their character sheets. You know the 6+ cards they are responsible for will be lost, damaged, and so forth.

    • How many duplicates will there be? What happens if two players want the same character archetype / ability?

    • If the DM wants to check a rule, they have to look through a deck of shuffled cards instead of just turning to page 56.

    • Does replacing a card mean buying a whole new set? Will there be booster packs as the game evolves?

Maybe I'm the minority here, but I am very concerned about this. It's a shame because aside from the use of cards, I love everything I've seen about Daggerheart.
