Recommendations for SCP beginners?
  • SCP-882 for an intro to the Church of the Broken God, with several other SCPs linked at the bottom that will draw you into the rabbit hole.

SCP-354 (The Red Pool) because it's just a classic, with a nice long log entry to read through.

SCP-140, the SCP that founded the Daevites as a faction. No crosslinks, but click on the 'daevite' tag at the bottom if you want to browse. Or take a gander at SCP-076 (Abel) if you want to be drawn into a whole other tangentially related rabbit hole, one dug by the Foundation's own hubris.

  • What's your favorite fantasy monster race?
  • Trollkin from Iron Kingdoms. They are what the name says: kin to trolls. About the same relationship as humans have to gorillas.

They retain a lot of the regenerative powers, so they're very willing to settle things with violence, because hey, what's regrowing an arm or two between friends?

They're big, loud, rambunctious, deeply respectful of nature, and are basically Big Dwarves. Also orcs? They don't really have an analogue, which is why I like them so much.

  • What's your favorite fantasy monster race?
  • I have a tiny little idea bumping around my head for a setting where dragons are not only intelligent but are the apex species. I think it'd be cool to base them off solitary predators like bears, jaguars, etc, as it means they would hate cooperating but would grudgingly do so if necesaary.

  • just saw something and wanted to see if in fact this *was* in the Bible.
  • If it was actually there then just post that. A bunch of random comments on a decrepit forum has exactly as much accuracy as LLMs do. I don't care what pictures you post, I care that you're presenting random garbage as anything meaningful.

  • The Internet Archive is under attack, with a popup claiming a ‘catastrophic’ breach
  • Nah. It just lets slimy gits claim they never said XYZ, or that such and such a thing never happened. With as volatile a storage media as internet media, hard backups are absolutely necessary. Put it this way; would you have the same complaimt about a newspaper? A TV show? Post your opinion piece to a newspaper and it's fixed in ink forever. Yet somehow you complain when that same opinion piece is on a website? Get outta here.

  • Why do you think they don't?
  • Bro. Nobody hates you. Nobody has made even the slightest comment about you. Nobody has made even the slightest threat against you or your lifestyle. You openly asked a bunch of people what they thought about your lifestyle and then got defensive when they criticized it. Vegans not liking that you eat meat is worlds apart from facism, and you know that.

  • Why do you think they don't?
  • On the contrary. They are critiquing your choice, as you requested. And they did so quite logically too. The ability to choose your actions does not shield you from criticism.

And yes, you have far more choice in what you consume and how you live your life than someone a hundred or a thousand years ago. This means that, "well we used to live that way" is no longer a moral defense.

You respect the environment, you want to live sustainably, yes? Then how do you square that with meat eating being an order of magnitude more harmful to it? It takes far, far more land and resources to support one meat-eater compared to one plant-eater. Surely the land has suffered enough?

  • Why do you think they don't?
  • Given that the people who care about not doing factory farming are generally also quite in favor of wildlife preservation, by the time you have the one you will probably have the other. There's already animal rescues that take in farm animals.

  • Horse archers ruin every game they are in.
  • Horse archers are amazing lmao. If you're throwing them directly into the front lines they will be fucked several times over. Understand: they are merely archers that can quickly reposition. This makes them one of the best units in the game.

Deploy them to the far flank and reposition them frequently. They are excellent at drawing out the enemy cavalry so you can harass them, hit them with your own cav, etc. Big block of infanty? Harassing fire. Other horse archers? Wait for them to engage your footed archers and then deploy your horse archers to double up on them.

Their weakness, as you've noticed, is large blocks of powerful foot archers. That is what your cavalry or heavy infantry is for. Once your other forces engage, then deploy your horse archers. They're a reserve force and a force multiplier.
