How do I block users from an instance of my choice?
  • A lot of people seem taken aback because the local feed is full of crypto stuff. But I imagine this has little to do with the admin and someone just started a crypto community there. Lemmy.cafe being a tiny instance, it then dominates local.

  • Retirement in the USA is a scam
  • 3 years is absolutely nothing in stock market terms. Check in a decade.

Also you should really just invest in a super broad index fund instead of your specific tech and healthcare and stuff.

If you had only invested in a broad stock wide index fund, your 15k would be 17k right now. A total market index fund minimises risk nicely.

  • the poor fools
  • Honestly. I think we should stop treating Selzer like she’s a palm reader.

Her polls have been historically accurate. But there’s still a large margin of error. Another high quality pollster (Emerson) has Trump +9 in Iowa just yesterday. Likely it’ll be somewhere between the two.

    Throw it in the average.

  • Where are all the artists at?
  • People on lemmy downvote anything it’s actually really harmful to the user experience.

Like a completely harmless post into a niche hobbyist community is often downvoted because a couple people on all decided to downvote it for no apparent reason.

I've had ios apple phones all my post-2010 life and am thinking about buying my first android phone, what are some things to know before switching?
  • Thanks. I’m actually considering /e/os (a degoogled privacy focused android fork) But I’m assuming sone of the issues here still apply.

I’m really iffy about the privacy constraints with android and the main reason I’m considering switching is

    1. lack of customisation (for me, torrenting is a must have which apple doesn’t allow)
    2. cheaper. I lost my job due to disability so I just need a more affordable solution than apple.

Relevant details that might make this a headache.

    • Most my passwords are saved on the safari password manager and I use the “sign in with apple” on a bunch of websites
    • My photo library is currently backed with an icloud subscription

Is there a decent add-free FOSS alternative to IMDB or Letterboxed

Not looking for the “best one” in terms of quality of software but more the most used and popular one, ie. an alternative that’s fleshed out.

TMDB is owned by a for profit company so I’d prefer something else.

Europe’s Greens ask Jill Stein to pull out of US election to prevent Trump victory

Green politicians from across Europe on Friday called on U.S. Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein to withdraw from the race for the White House and endorse Democrat Kamala Harris instead.

“We are clear that Kamala Harris is the only candidate who can block Donald Trump and his anti-democratic, authoritarian policies from the White House,” Green parties from countries including Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Estonia, Belgium, Spain, Poland and Ukraine said in a statement, which was shared with POLITICO ahead of publication

Democrats worry over fate of women’s health research if Trump reelected: ‘He’s actively working against us’

    > “We are dealing with a contrast here that will either advance women’s health or put it in a sort of retrograde,” Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) said.

    > Research into women’s health also receives far less funding than that focused on health conditions that mostly affect men. One 2021 study found that in almost three-quarters of cases, diseases that mainly affect women are underfunded for the amount of people they impact and illnesses that primarily affect men are overfunded.

"Personnellement, je penche plutôt pour Trump", a déclaré mardi le conseiller fédéral UDC Albert Rösti, dans une sortie inhabituelle et peu diplomatique pour un membre de gouvernement à une semaine de l'élection présidentielle américaine.

The goal of this operation was to widely disseminate Russian propaganda aimed at influencing the upcoming presidential election.

The exposure of the “Doppelganger Campaign” underscores the shifting tactics in disinformation warfare.

As AI and social media continue to shape public discourse, U.S. officials warn that foreign actors like Russia will increasingly exploit these technologies to influence future elections.

“This was a deliberate and highly organized attempt by the Russian government to manipulate U.S. public opinion,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the press earlier this month. “We will not tolerate such interference.”

Japanese voters strip LDP coalition of parliamentary majority

Japan’s ruling coalition led by the Liberal Democratic party has lost its parliamentary majority, in a shock rebuke by voters that plunges the country into political uncertainty. The LDP’s worst electoral reversal for 15 years, which will leave the party struggling to govern and recently anointed Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba under pressure to resign, came in a snap election he called to try to draw a line under a slush-fund scandal.

What's the most efficient way to solve this F2L Pair using the ZZ method

    If using CFOP best way is > y U’ (R’ F R F’) U’ (F’ U’ F).

In ZZ method, you don’t rotate and those moves would break EO.

    Using ZZ best solution I can think of is > (L’ U’ L) U’ (L’ U2 L) U2 (L’ U’ L)

which just feels inefficient. I wonder if there is a better way?
