why lemmy.fmhy.ml was down for a day and the changes made after that
  • I remember phpBB having a popular emoticon addon, or maybe arcade addon, that ended up compromising a few of the message boards I frequented in the early 00s. Times never change.

  • Devs of Postal recommend piracy over keysellers
  • I love RWS. They're the Troma Entertainment of video games and they have a good record of engaging with the community. Aside from that time they shut down the forums and funded Postal 3... But they've made up for that lol.

  • lemmy.fmhy.ml now runs on v0.18!
  • Is being unable to change your email address part of the settings you're speaking of? I get "This server hasn't correctly set up email." when I try to change the email address in my profile settings.

  • How do you feel about bots automatically reposting content from Reddit onto Lemmy?
  • I'm probably just a loon and making a mountain out of a molehill, but this type of automation bothers me. Whoever sets it up can easily script with bias to filter out content they personally disagree with. I understand humans do this naturally without botting, but making it automated changes the speed and reach to a degree I'm not comfortable engaging with.

  • Direct download sites and safety?
  • Real debrid is not necessary unless you're downloading from hosts that require a paid account for unlimited access. You can download from archive.org and other HTTP sites without worry. You don't need tor, a vpn, real debrid, a seed box, or any other paid service people are suggesting here. Just stay away from torrents and you'll be fine.

  • Direct download sites and safety?
  • As an aside, it is technically possible to disable uploading/sharing when using torrents though it is generally frowned upon.

The whole "no seed no problem" thing is a myth. Connecting to the torrent in any way exposes your IP to whoever is monitoring it.

  • Is there such a thing as a good FREE vpn? if not what options are there?
  • Every free VPN company is going to track and sell your data. That's how they make a return on giving you a free product. If you're wanting to pirate things without worry, just avoid torrents and you'll be fine. HTTP (direct downloads through your browser from site like archive.org) can't be tracked by copyright holders. They're perfectly safe to download from. If you're just looking for some sort of privacy while browsing websites I recommend checking out TOR browser. It offers all of the regular safety precautions anyone would need while simply browsing the internet (aside from common sense).

  • DnD Beyond
  • I'm unfortunately unfamiliar with DnD tools, but there are a couple users on Soulseek who are sharing a variety of DnD tools. It looks like they all came from the same torrent (I don't have the torrent, sorry :< ).

  • What got you into the nsfw gaming world?
  • My first experience with NSFW gaming was the original Leisure Suit Larry. When I was 10ish my friend showed it to me on her dads computer and I thought it was disgustingly funny! I like to think it helped me become more appreciative of raunchy humor and NSFW video games.

  • What types of loud music do you tend to favor?

So... What types of loud music do you tend to favor?

Anything fast and silly wins me over, and that usually comes from Powerviolence or Grindcore. Spazz, Ratbomb, Excrementory Grindfuckers, Romantic Gorilla, Charles Bronson, etc. anything that promotes unabashed hyper fun.

Punk also has a very special place in my heart. I grew up in the california punk scene of the 90's and it really impacted how I view the world and approach situations. Dead Kennedys, Antischism, Crass, Black Flag, Subhumans, etc. we all know the bands lol.

(unrelated sidenote: i can't reply to this post here in Noise - https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/212141 - I get the eternal circle of loading when I try to reply. weird. it's an awesome album though!)

Portal - Ion (Full Album) (2019)
  • The world could use a lot more aussie metal!

  • Exclusive: OpenAI Lobbied E.U. to Water Down AI Regulation
  • In 2022, OpenAI repeatedly argued to European officials that the forthcoming AI Act should not consider its general purpose AI systems—including GPT-3, the precursor to ChatGPT, and the image generator Dall-E 2—to be “high risk,” a designation that would subject them to stringent legal requirements including transparency, traceability, and human oversight.

    "Human oversight." Yahuh...

  • Is etsy worth starting a shop on or are there better places?
  • I'm not sure how your area is, but CRT TV's are starting to gain popularity for retro gaming and they're all over the sides of the roads in some places, especially right after Christmas. They generally just need a fuse replaced to work, which is a really simple and cheap issue to solve. I dunno the logistics of shipping those monsters, but if you sell locally it probably wouldn't be an issue.

  • It's likely whenever things break, which is relatively frequent... Here's to hoping the 0.18 update brings a little more stability!

  • Daughters - Sweet Georgia Brown
  • It's one of my favorite albums by them for sure! They're such a trip to see live too. I remember seeing them with the Blood Brothers somewhere in Ohio, around the time they released their first album and still had the screamy vocals.

There was this really loud heckler right next to me shouting at them, calling them a ripoff of some other band, and it made things really awkward for the entire venue. Everyone was just standing around not sure how to react to either the band or the heckler. The band took a short moment to talk with each other after a song or two, then they completely changed the vibe by going absolutely wild with their performance. Something I can only compare to the Dillinger Escape Plan in their early years. The heckler faded into the background and they won the crowd over in beautiful fashion.

They might not be as insane as then, but their live performances are still incredible. I wish I could have been there for this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsQDtnq-2VE

  • SPAZZ- "Crush, Kill, Destroy"

The way this guy has interpreted the lyrics has replaced the actual lyrics in my head

  • What game did you purchase because of the aesthetics but barely or never played?
  • Alan Awake. I finally got around to playing it recently and something about the camera movement/placement turned me off. Dead Space has the same issue for me.

Sorta related, I bought Clive Barkers Undying twice (at different stores) without realizing it. One of the copies I left in the bag and stuck it in a closet for whatever reason. It was an awesome game though. I've played through it several times now.

  • What are the best free games for a low end pc?
  • Speaking of GB emulators and Pokémon, PokeMMO is a free cross-platform MMORPG that utilizes several Pokémon ROMs and emulation. It's really awesome to explore the games with loads of other people.

Please mind the rules on the right side of the page and be kind to one another!

NSFW content is not allowed, sorry. This means content with a pornographic focus, real depictions of gore or abuse, or anything else of that nature. Mature subject matter is fine, just not outright porn or gore.

Following FMHY global rule 3 is very important for this community to function:

    3. Linking to piracy sites is fine, but please keep links directly to pirated content in DMs.

Mistakes will happen and we all have the potential to forget or gloss over things, but this is important for FMHY itself to stay open and accessible. Let's do our best to respect this wonderful space we've been invited to share :)
