  • Bold of you to assume they're curating their training data.

  • Reddit Will License Its Data to Train LLMs, So We Made a Firefox Extension That Lets You Replace Your Comments With Any (Non-Copyrighted) Text - The Luddite
  • To me there's a huge difference between being angry at a company and its leadership, and taking out the anger on the workers that are probably just as angry at their own management. It's like someone yelling at a level 1 phone support, as if that magically makes them able to help you, which is usually something they would be fired for even if they had the system access to fix the problem. They're paid to handle standard questions with a standard answer catalogue and nothing more.

You're not making life for the management difficult by repeatedly asking for a GDPR readout. Just for the workers who are already being paid fuck all to do shitty work in too long hours.

  • Reddit Will License Its Data to Train LLMs, So We Made a Firefox Extension That Lets You Replace Your Comments With Any (Non-Copyrighted) Text - The Luddite
  • Then I demanded my data every month until they started ignoring me - just to be annoying, of course

Wow, you're the kind of person that makes every worker in IT hate the GDPR. It's good for consumers. Until the consumer is you. Think of the fact that a person has to actually fulfill that request, and you know that management never paid for tooling for that, they have to fuck around manually in the database every time.

  • It's so obvious when someone has a JavaScript background

  • What I was about to post, too. It's ridiculous how much better something as simple as taking a shit can be.

  • Boeing, NASA say Starliner astronaut launch will move forward despite spacecraft helium leak
  • Atlantis was already scheduled to fly not too long after, and the CAIB discussed that there was a possibility of moving the launch up as Columbia could have stayed an extraordinary long time in orbit due to their specific mission loadout.

Repairs with harvested tiles were also discussed but yeah , chance of success rated as low. Still, better than deorbiting with nothing done.

  • Boeing, NASA say Starliner astronaut launch will move forward despite spacecraft helium leak
  • I thought there was a chance Atlantis could have been moved up?

  • Thanks. That was what I was looking for.
  • the issue is that the result is written in scientific notation

Which honestly is never an issue, only people having forgotten how to fluently read it. 😛

  • when google bought datasets from reddit
  • It's called Chinese Room and it's exactly what "AI" is. It recombines pieces of data into "answers" to a "question", despite not understanding the question, the answer it gives, or the piece sit uses.

It has a very very complex chart of which elements in what combinations need to be in an answer for a question containing which elements in what combinations, but that's all it does. It just sticks word barf together based on learned patterns with no understanding of words, language, context of meaning.

  • Boeing, NASA say Starliner astronaut launch will move forward despite spacecraft helium leak
  • What about the two alternatives that were forwarded after the accident, either a rescue mission or in-orbit repairs?

Sure, both were far from a guaranteed success. Far from. Still better than nothing. As in: They were another option than just letting it explode.

  • Boeing, NASA say Starliner astronaut launch will move forward despite spacecraft helium leak
  • I think Airbus is too busy swimming in money.

I heard from my neighbors - who work there - that the biggest struggle internally now is to keep their quality standards up despite everyone and their mother ordering dozens of planes as they're cancelling as many Boeing orders as they can. So it takes constant and organized pushbacks against management to not commit the same normalization of deviance that is bringing Boeing down. You'd think it'd be easy! Because that's exacty why their main competitor is flailing. Nope, management wants their bonuses. 😑

At least from what they can tell me, it's actually working though and upper management had to shut it and accept the current speed of work and enjoy the decades of backlog and paid-already contracts instead. Only 4 yachts per person or something...

    Welp, this didn't take long.

It's especially interesting that they laid off a lot of people who were the only ones in their particular job, leaving entire jobs uncovered. I suspect this comes right before shutting them entirely or doing it all "with AI" 🤮.

Sad in particular about Alice Bell. She was fantastic, and it always felt like she kept the site going through all the shit of recent years. Plus being the driving force behind their podcast (the Electronic Wireless Show) of course also spells doom for that one though I hope that like Indiescovery they go rogue and run it independent of the site.

    Bleak times. Fuck IGN.

Short but honestly good advise to rather pull boolean checks apart and re-group them as they make sense in the context of the given situation you're checking for.

I started doing this when building an alert-check system for the company I'm working for right now, and it really helps organize what is a pre-condition, what a syntactical requirement, etc etc.

Deliver Us Mars: Ultimately just not enjoyable

So I finally got around to trying out Deliver Us Mars, having never played the predecessor but having a fair few friends rave about it (the previous game) being this rough but amazing gem.

With the successor... I made it to just after landing on Mars before I had to drop it. Ugh.

It's not a bad game, not at all. I found two really big positive things about it:

    • The vistas on Mars are truly breathtaking with everything cranked up to max. They did phenomenal work here, it really feels like you're alone on this giant red planet that is utterly alien to you.
    • The sequence before that, in zero gravity, was amazing in how it felt moving around in a cramped space. Especially in first-person view.

But throughout the entire 3 hours up to that point, the actual atmosphere struggled hard against the facial and character models. And since the game is talk-heavy in the early parts, the camera constantly shows faces. Which look incredibly bad. Really amazing, as if someone intentionally tried to do that. And this would be alright - after all it's a small-budget game - but it contrasts really hard against the amazing scenery and space graphics.

It was this weird contrast that kept pulling me out of the story, ruining the immersion. Then came the first bigger climbing areas, and budget Lara Croft was okay, but ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back.

So, for me at least, set to "Abandoned" as completion state and uninstalled. A shame, there's a lot of really good pieces in here, they just never come together IMO.

For those of you who played it, what was your experience?

    It's out!

    Interesting details:

    • We have a better ambient occlusion option now.
    • DLSS/FSR is available.
    • Character lighting is smoother, eyes are better, mouth animation is amazing, hair looks better. Sadly difficult to see in the character generation due to the lighting but if you let the benchmark play with it, it becomes rather obvious.
    • When selecting voices for a character, you can now also select which type of emote you want to hear as an example.

    > Armed with powerful magical abilities and an arsenal of magical weapons, face enemies that range from humanoid constructs to towering beasts.
