Escondido!

I've lived in Escondido now for just two years. So still trying to find the best of everything in the North County. What are your favorite:

*Mexican restaurants / cafes

*Asian restaurants

*Ice cream shops

*Festivals

I especially like the Friday nite car show on Grand Ave, and the Renaissance Faire in Felicity County Park. Definitely looking for more things to do in the area.

edit: lists aren't working for me

How soon is the new season coming?
  • To shreds you say!

  • Excellent

I've been looking for the communities I'm missing from that other site, and /sandiego is one of them. It seems that for now there are very few geographic location related communities. It's nice to have for people to ask all kinds of questions, from new comers to looking for types of restaurants to mentions of festivals...

Best burrito place in north county?

How are you going to avoid using reddit?
  • Oh, man. Should I do this? It seems so outlandish I just might do it.

  • Netflix sign-ups double after crackdown on account sharing
  • I also was able to access the full gifted article.

  • The Illuminating Science Behind Fireflies
  • Excellent article on a hunter of fireflies. I miss the fireflies from the summers of my youth back in Indiana.

  • Lemmy Instance on Small Private Server?
  • Excellent post, thanks. It looks like one of the bigger issues is with images, since they're significantly larger than text. I wonder if it's possible to disable image uploads, and just require links.

  • Lemmy Instance on Small Private Server?
  • Maybe I'd limit the number of people to around five to see what the usage was like. It's sounding like a fun weekend project now.

  • Lemmy Instance on Small Private Server?

I'd like to contribute to the Lemmy community. I've been running my own private Linux servers for more than 25 years for things like email (years ago before all the spam), and as file servers, backup, etc. It's an old, not very powerful computer, running Ubuntu server, in a corner in my house. Is it worth running a Lemmy instance on such a machine? I suppose there'd also be issues of how much data is going in and out, and how that would impact my internet cable usage. Thoughts?

What are you guys doing when there's multiple communities for the same thing across instances?
  • I just sub to the most popular one assuming it'll be the one to win out.

  • Any recommendations for low-end, Linux-friendly games to play?
  • How do you get Diablo 4 to install on Linux? Any help appreciated.

  • Jerboa 0.0.33-alpha
  • Just installed, and oh so much better! Feels a lot more like my fave Relay for Reddit. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and contributions.

  • What's your daily driver?
  • Oneplus 6T. The screen is starting to come loose, so I'm guessing it only has a few more months. I'll probably get Google Pixel.

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • I really really wanted to like Darkest Dungeon, but either I really suck at it or there's just too much grinding for me. I've gone through about 30 in-game weeks and haven't really gotten anywhere.

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • A couple of dozen hours in and I'm still on Act 2!

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • Same, can't stop playing it when I get the chance.

  • What’s everyone playing this weekend?
  • It's got a steep learning curve, but is technically very good. It's got a number of difficulty settings to make it playable and enjoyable for you.

  • How many of you have pulled the plug and deleted reddit already?
  • Not yet. I think Lemmy needs to mature a bit more and get more of the groups I'm interested in.

  • Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • So today's my first day on Lemmy. I still haven't figured out how to create a group. Can you do it from the Jerboa app, from the instance website, or do you have to be a moderator on the website to have permission?
