  • Already love it! Would you willing to hide the status bar, or add a setting that hides it?

  • What desktop computer would you recommend for maximum freedom?
  • I don't see any mention of Coreboot or Libreboot, though.

  • What desktop computer would you recommend for maximum freedom?
  • Neither Coreboot nor Libreboot support the ARM CPUs in the Pinebooks.

  • What desktop computer would you recommend for maximum freedom?
  • As far as I'm aware, you can't buy a prebuilt computer that ticks all of those boxes. System76 has Coreboot-supported laptops, but they don't offer it with their desktops because it's nearly impossible. And you can just forget about Libreboot, since it barely runs on anything. Neither is exactly ideal for modern systems, though...

The best you can do is build your own, but even then, it still requires the Intel FSP. Installing your own distro would be as simple as plugging in a flash drive with the installer when you're done.

    What's your go-to comfort food?
  • Poutine. Fries, gravy and cheese curds are three things I'll enjoy forever.

  • This collapsed star is turning into an gigantic diamond before our eyes
  • These findings are limited and require further investigation before we can say for sure. It'd certainly be interesting if our initial estimates were off by several orders of magnitude.

Motivated by the possibility that a cooling delay caused by crystallization can be directly detected for this white dwarf we employ a variety of methods to constrain the age of the system; however, our empirical age anomaly of +3.1±1.9 Gyr is ultimately too imprecise to reach statistical significance, preventing us from making strong constraints to models of white dwarf crystallization.

The Elder Scrolls Skyblivion Release Year Announcement Trailer
  • Right? They have a sister project too called Skywind, a remake of Morrowind—which just recently turned 21 years old!

  • The Elder Scrolls 6 Announcement Trailer is Officially Five Years Old
  • We're probably going to see Skyblivion and Skywind release before TES6...

  • Auth only?
  • Jerboa is very limited unfortunately. I would recommend using the website to change your settings.

  • www.space.com A chaotic star is inching toward a violent death as astronomers watch in real-time

This might be the first observation of this rare type of star evolving in real time.

A chaotic star is inching toward a violent death as astronomers watch in real-time

    >Every star ages, but astronomers rarely get to watch it happen in real time. Now, they've gotten a front-row seat to the aging of an unusually chaotic star — and found that it's headed toward a spectacularly violent death.

    >The star, located in the nearby Triangulum galaxy (also known as Messier 33), is in the middle of a transition into a class of highly unstable stars called Wolf-Rayet stars. New observations show that the star has begun beaming a new signal that was not seen when the star was first spotted in 2018.

    >The new signal was detected in the peaks and valleys of the star's spectra, the wavelengths of the electromagnetic radiation it emits, and shows that the star is churning either carbon or iron deep within it through nuclear fusion. The new signal also indicates that the massive star, easily 25 times the sun's mass, has inched closer to its eventual fate of exploding into a spectacular supernova.

    >Gaunt's team is calling the star BELLS 1, an acronym for "broad emission-lined luminous sources, the kind of wide range of emissions radiated by Wolf-Rayet stars.

    > According to NASA, Wolf-Rayet stars like BELLS 1 live fast and die hard, so watching one evolve is a rare and valuable opportunity for astronomers. Only 200 such stars are known to be in the Milky Way galaxy. Astronomers suspect that 1,000 or 2,000 more may be out there but are obscured by thick blankets of dust.

Lawful Neutral: How might the so-called AI revolution affect the MMO genre?
  • The technology is still in its infancy, but we're definitely going to see more interactive, realistic characters. Just look at this example of a game with ChatGPT integration.

On that same note, we'll probably see studios pay for vocal models and use them to expand the number of voice-acted characters.

  • What's your favourite snack(s)?
  • I'm a bit lazy with my snacks, so I grab the multi-packs from Costco. You microwave them, add some salt and then eat them out of the pods. These ones, I think?

  • What's your favourite snack(s)?

Edamame beans, hard boiled eggs and popcorn are my personal favourites.

What are some of your favorite game mechanics?
  • Random crits. Fair and balanced.

  • See Mars like never before in this amazing new photo from a 20-year-old probe
  • In this simulated view of Mars with enhanced color and contrast, darker grey-toned areas of Mars represent grey-black basaltic sands of volcanic origin; lighter patches show clay and sulphate minerals; and the large scar across the planet's face is Valles Marineris.

These photos are heavily exaggerated, with their contrast boosted. It's a great way to visualize the rock and mineral composition in different regions. To the naked eye, Mars would look pretty much as you'd expect. Still really cool though!

You can actually find similar photos of the moon, too. Wallpaper material for sure.

  • ‘Golden Asteroid’ Mission Is Back On Track, Says NASA
  • Yup! The asteroid is called "16 Psyche" and the mission is named after it.

  • Modest Mouse - Float On
  • For sure, it's such an earworm. Honestly, there's so many good songs in the album, it's hard to pick a favourite. Black Cadillacs, Satin in a Coffin, Bukowski and The View are all great contenders, too.

  • Community source ports and engine remakes
  • OpenMW is basically the gold standard if you want to play Morrowind in 2023. Can't say I'm not looking forward to Skywind though—the newer engine and assets are insane.

My personal favourite engine remake is OpenRCT2. Rollar Coaster Tycoon still holds a special place in my heart even with all the newer titles. Multiplayer alone is a literal game-changer.

  • Frequent lengthy space travel takes a toll on astronauts' brains, study shows
  • "We found that the more time people spent in space, the larger their ventricles became," said Rachael Seidler, a professor of applied physiology and kinesiology at the University of Florida and an author of the study. "Many astronauts travel to space more than one time, and our study shows it takes about three years between flights for the ventricles to fully recover."

Space has proven challenging for the human body. I know that prolonged habitation affected bone density and increased the risk of kidney stones, but are there any other well-documented health concerns?

[EDIT] I looked into it and found a few other concerns:

    • Vision problems
    • Muscle density loss
    • Radiation sickness ( ! )
    • Weakened immune system
  • Modest Mouse - Float On
  • I would totally recommend their other songs too, especially from this album: Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

  • Modest Mouse - Float On

This is one of my favourite songs of all time. Whenever I'm feeling down, I find myself humming it and feel just a bit better.

www.forbes.com ‘Golden Asteroid’ Mission Is Back On Track, Says NASA

NASA's mission to Psyche—a metal asteroid that could be worth "quadrillions" of dollars—had addressed its issues and is "go" for launch, said an independent review.

    >Originally scheduled to launch in September 2022, Psyche was scrubbed last year after delays in development and testing of its flight software.

    >Located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, Psyche is 140 miles/226 kilometers wide, rotates on its side and, according to its reflectivity, appears to be made largely of iron, nickel or gold. As such, planetary scientists think it could be a rare example of the core of a planet exposed to space in a cataclysmic collision.

    > It’s even been said that Psyche could be technically worth $10,000 quadrillion. That’s way more than the global economy, which is worth about $105 trillion in 2023 according to Statista.

    >Psyche is now due to launch from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A in Florida atop a SpaceX Falcon Heavy between Oct. 5-25, 2023, conduct a flyby of Mars for a gravity assist and arrive at the asteroid in August 2029. It will then spend 26 months in orbit, making observations from different altitudes.

    >Now in an Astrotech Space Operations Facility near Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the spacecraft twill this month begin its final assembly, test and launch operations.

    No-Frills Battenberg Cake

My mother loves Battenberg cake but she can't get it in Canada, so I decided to make her some instead. I didn't bake two separate cakes to get the tile pattern, but it tastes just as good.

This is the recipe we used as the base, substituting caster with fine white sugar. I would totally recommend it! The marzipan, apricot jam and sponge cake work so well together. 😊
