Is there any real physical proof that Jesus christ ever existed?
  • Primary sources? No, but there are independent secondary sources by people with no skin in the game.

Antiquities of the Jews by Josephus (circa 93–94 CE).

Annals by Tacitus (circa 116 CE)

The earliest Christian writings are also more about the teachings of a disruptive Jewish preacher who was then crucified, than they are about magic.

  • Is there any real physical proof that Jesus christ ever existed?
  • This. There is evidence that a preacher called Jesus existed, was crucified, and was well-regarded enough to start a following that persisted even after his death.

There isn't, however, strong historical evidence for any of the magical parts of it.

  • Simple freedom car for pensioners?
  • I'd recommend something like a Renault Zoe over a Leaf for old people for one reason - the handbrake.

The handbrake in the Leaf is a pedal where the clutch normally lives. Even after driving for some time, I'd instinctively move my foot over it when approaching roundabouts, etc. As for the few times I pressed it accidentally, well, I'm glad there were no cars behind me.

  • Anyone here on a 2nd hand EV? What has the buying/ ownership experience been like so far?
  • I've had a second hand Leaf and currently drive a second hand Zoe. They are the two best cars I've ever had.

The Leaf was quite old, but the battery was still over 90%. It definitely might have something to do with living in Northern England, though - our climate isn't exactly stressful for batteries!

The Zoe was only a few years old, and the battery is essentially as new. I only replaced the Leaf because my sister-in-law lives over an hour away, and we couldn't do the return trip on a single charge.

  • Why isn't jerking off more valorized as an easy dopamine hit that's also literally good for you?
  • Is that actually true? I suspect not.

Most people start "enjoying their own company" years before getting to try for real.

If there was a question of insensitivity, then surely problems would be much more prevalent at ages when people are enjoying themselves more frequently. But it's not the case at all.

  • Is a peanut butter sandwich a balanced meal?
  • I think you might need to qualify which country you are talking about.

In the US, where both bread and peanut butter are both hyper-processed, then no.

US bread is very different from European bread. Outside of the general quality of the key ingredients, and banned fillers and preservatives, US bread has huge amounts of sugar.

Similarly, the quality of peanut butter is very different. In particular, there's a push against the use of palm oil in peanut butter.

So, while it's probably not optimal for long-term nutrition in either case, I think where you are getting the food from probably makes a difference.

  • Makes you think. Or more likely not
  • Just for balance, I can see how you could think shipping slaves from Africa to America via the Pacific and then the North Sea (of all places?) was unlikely. Maybe this person just isn't aware of the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Lesser Space Formorians
  • Ah, they're great! GW missed a trick by not making space versions of these guys - they could have kept using the cool creature design whilst simultaneously reworking the problematic fluff.

  • Why is head hair different from other hairy parts?
  • Fact 1 - sexually active people subconsciously look at peoples' crotches when meeting them.

Fact 2 - evolution doesn't fine tune things if they're good enough to get the job done well.

So the fact that pubic hairs are unsightly crazy-looking things might not be because they are fine tuned to be like that - it might just be because they do their job well enough and they just ended up looking like that.

    What job could that be?

To confirm visually that you are sexually mature.

That may literally be it - a localised fuzzy indicator of whether or not you're able to make babies.

  • Old photo
  • We'll still have diversity (such as it is) - we have more than two parties.

If the local elections are anything to go by, however, the Tories have slipped into third place for the first time in history.

(Of course, I'm not daft enough to think local elections accurately predict general elections).

  • [Serious] Do you know of any processed snack foods with some vitamins?
  • I'm not trying to downplay the reality of serious health concerns sometimes being behind food habits, but I think I need to say...

Picky eating is an absolutely normal part of child development. Anecdotally, both of my kids went through two distinct phases of picky eating, at around 3-5 and 8-11.

They gradually grow out of it. All you can do is try to make sure what they are eating is nutritious enough while they are going through it.

  • [Serious] Do you know of any processed snack foods with some vitamins?
  • Dry cereal always worked (still does!) as a nutritious snack. Granted, the nutrition has all been sprayed on, but it's still there.

A little mixed tub of Cornflakes/Branflakes/Rice Crispies/Coco Pops always goes down well.

  • UK Charger Adapter Question

    Hi,

I've recently bought my first EV - a 2014 Nissan Leaf - and hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable than me could help :)

The car itself has a Type 1 and CHAdeMo socket.

I have a Type 2 to Type 1 charging cable and a separate adapter plug, but I've found that some charging stations have Tesla branding and weird two-part plugs on that don't seem to fit.

In the interests of being able to use as many charging stations as possible, I'd really like to know which adapter would be most useful to buy!

(I've mentioned UK in the title, as I'm aware America likes to do its own thing when it comes to plugs.)

Any help would be really appreciated!
